Location: Ordon Village

This sword is Link‘s first sword in the game and is basically used as a training sword. Link receives it in Ordon Village from Rusl. It is with this sword that you learn all the basic attacks. It won’t be in your inventory for long, as you give it to the youth’s before you transform into a wolf for the first time.

You encounter it later on after the children are kidnapped. The scent left on it will help guide you to the children.

Location: Ordon Village

This sword was meant to be a gift for Hyrule from Ordon Village, but after the Twilight takes over the Faron Woods, it becomes Link’s. Link steals it from Rusl‘s House when he becomes a wolf for the first time and sneaks into Ordon Village under the guidance of Midna.

Link can equip this sword any time he wishes, even after obtaining the powerful Master Sword.

Location: Sacred Grove

Link finds this blade in an ancient forest in the Faron Woods near the Forest Temple. It becomes the key to breaking the curse placed on Link by Zant after the Lakebed Temple. When Link then draws the blade from its pedestal, Midna states (with some surprise) that the sword has chosen Link to become its new master. It was the legendary blade that was once held by the Hero of Time.

Location: Palace of Twilight

Once Link gets the Mirror of Twilight back and enters the Twilight Realm, he once again becomes vulnerable to certain patches of Twilight Fog. Once you rescue two Sols from the Palace, they will infuse your Master Sword with Light and give you the ability to break through that fog and face Zant. Midna notes that the Sols’ light being transferred to the Master Sword is the work of the gods of the Twilight Realm, and that they too, are on Link’s side.

 

Shields

Location: Ordon Village

The Ordon Shield is a keepsake of Jaggle, an Ordon villager, but becomes Link’s when he becomes a wolf for the first time. Under the guidance of Midna, he steals the shield from the house for Link to use later. The Ordon Shield, however, is vulnerable to fire. It was supposed to go along with the Ordon Sword to Castle Town before the interruption of the Twilight.

Location: Death Mountain/Kakariko Malo Mart

The Wooden Shield can be bought from the Gorons on Death Mountain should your Ordon Shield catch fire in the Goron Mines. Remember, once it catches aflame, it’s lost—but can be replaced with a new one.

Location: Malo Mart/Overpriced Shop

The Hylian Shield is a more protective than the previous two, since it is made of metal. It can be first bought at the Malo Mart in Kakariko Village for a very cheap price. It also appears at the Overpriced Shop in Hyrule Castle Market, for a steeper price. It can’t burn, so be sure to get it before going to Goron Mines. This is also the last shield you’ll get in the game.

 

Clothing

Location: Faron Woods – Once Link returns the Light to the Faron Woods, the Spirit of Faron will return Link to human form. When he does, Link will don the Hero’s Clothes, the same kind of clothing the legendary hero once wore. This marks Link as the new hero chosen by the gods.

Location: Kakariko Graveyard

Link will receive the Zora Armor from the recently deceased Zora Queen when he helps out her son, Prince Ralis. Link must escort the Prince from Castle Town to Kakariko in order for the Queen to finally lay to rest. Before she does, she gives Link the armor. The Zora Armor allows Link to remain and breathe underwater breathe for an indefinite amount of time. With the Iron Boots, he is able to walk and fight underwater. The Armour, however, makes Link extremely vulnerable to fire and ice attacks.

Location: Overpriced Shop (not buyable)/Malo Mart (Castle Town Branch)

The Magic Armor is the best of the best. While Link wears it and is carrying Rupees, the armor acts a body shield, making Link invincible from any attack. Rupees will be slowly consumed as you wear the armor, but a larger amount will be deducted from your rupees each time you are hit. Should you run out of rupees, the Armor becomes heavy and makes Link run very slowly. Once you donate to the Malo Mart Castle Town Branch, you can buy the armor there for 598 rupees. Could be used in some desperate situations.

Location: Ordon Village

Sera (of Sera’s Sundries in Ordon) will sell you the Slingshot after you bring her cat back to her early in the game. The slingshot is very weak and the range is not that far, but it’s a good tool to defeat weak nearby enemies, like Keese or those flaming slugs.

Location: Faron Woods

The Lantern is a useful tool for dark tunnels and caves, as well as for lighting torches that have been put out. Sometimes, you need the Lantern to light torches, so that hidden chests could be revealed. You can get the lantern from Coro, the lantern salesman in the Faron Woods. He gives you the lantern for free, but replacement oil will cost you.

In order to light the Lantern, Link needs to first fill it with Lantern Oil. The first time you get the Lantern from Coro, it will be filled with Oil. Every time it runs out, however, Link will need to find or buy replacement oil. Oil is sold from Coro or Trill (the bird in front of the Forest Temple). Yellow Chu Jelly can also serve as Lantern Oil.

Location: Forest Temple

Link finds the Gale Boomerang within the Forest Temple. Once he defeats the baboon, Ook, the boomerang is his. The boomerang contains a Fairy of the Winds, which gives the boomerang a tornado effect. The boomerang also can lock onto five different targets before returning to Link. It can be used for picking up far-away items or dazing enemies.

Location: Ordon Village – Once Link rescues Kakariko from the Twilight, he realizes his trip to Death Mountain is going to be difficult with the Gorons being stubborn. He learns from Renado that the Ordon Village mayor, Bo, once bested the Goronsin matches of strength. Link returns to Ordon Village, sumo-wrestles Bo, and receives the Iron Boots, the key to besting the Gorons. The Iron Boots can also stick to magnetic surfaces and sink Link to the bottom of certain lakes and deep waters. Careful! Without the Zora Armor while underwater, Link may run out of air!

Location: Goron Mines

The Bow is yours once you best Medigoron within the Goron Mines. The Hero’s Bow is a bow that is said to once be held by the legendary hero. It was left with the Gorons should he return. The quiver that Link receives with the Bow holds 30 arrows; however there are two upgrades later in the game (one for 60 and one for 100) if you beat Purlo’s S.T.A.R. game in Castle Town.

Location: Kakariko Malo Mart

This optional item is found in the Malo Mart in Kakariko Village. The Hawkeye allows Link to view far away distances with ease. It can also be used in conjunction with the Bow as a sniper effect, attacking far away enemies.

 

Clawshot/Double Clawshot

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 


Location: Lakebed Temple/City in the Sky

The Clawshot is, simply put, a claw attached to a chain. The Clawshot allows Link to shoot the claw into certain surfaces to shoot over gaps and climb tall structures. Link obtains one Clawshot from the Lakebed Temple and the other from the City in the Sky. Once Link has both, he can use one to attach to a surface and then shoot to another while hanging from the first (think Spiderman).

Location: Arbiter’s Grounds

The spinner is the extreme sports part of Link’s adventure. The spinner is a transportation device that resembles a large, medieval top, and allows Link to cross dangerous surfaces and up certain tracks. It can also be used to activate certain mechanisms, like the stand that holds the Mirror of Twilight.

Location: Snowpeak Ruins

The item is just as the name implies, a ball attached to a chain. It is left behind by Darkhammer, the mini-boss, within the Snowpeak Ruins. It can be used to break certain ice blocks and other small items. It can also attack many unarmored enemies.

Location: Temple of Time

The Dominion Rod is used to bring certain inanimate objects (mainly statues) to life. Once found in the Temple of Time, it is mainly used to bring the Giant Statue back to its normal resting place in the main room of the temple. Once you leave the Temple, its power is diminished, but is later restored after a little quest involving the Ancient Sky Book.

Location: Ordon Village

The fishing rod allows Link to catch fish, simple as that. The fishing rod will be given to you by Uli, Rusl’s wife, as a gift for returning her cradle.

 

Bombs and Bomb-bags

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 


Locations: Kakariko Village, Upper Zora’s River, Zora’s Domain

Barnes, the bomb maker of Kakariko, will give Link a bomb bag and bombs once you finish the Goron Mines. Over time, Barnes will be able to remake more unique bombs that allow Link to use bombs underwater and allow the bombs to move on their own. Barnes will give you one bomb bag, the other one you will from Iza, a shopkeeper on Zora’s River after you clear the river of fallen boulders. The last one will be given by a Goron in Zora’s Domain, at the bottom of the pool at the top of the waterfall is the cooled rock that was used to melt the ice. Blow it up with a water bomb to free the Goron.

  • Normal Bombs

These bombs are the bombs you will initially receive from Barnes. They are your run of the mill bomb, used to blow up walls, boulders, floors, and enemies. They can be used in a combo with your Bow for Bomb Arrows.

  • Water Bombs

Just as the name suggests, these bombs work underwater. You can either set them off while on the surface by throwing them into the water, or by using the Iron Boots underwater and setting them down. You can not throw a bomb while swimming underwater.

  • Bomblings

Bomblings are an upgraded version of a Bombchu. They have spider-like legs that can set the bomb in motion before it explodes. Good for faraway enemies, switches, and other things that may be out of reach. They’re the perfect tool for a pyromaniac.

Certain grass (usually shaped like a horseshoe or a bird) can allow Link to call his horse or a hawk (or in the Twilight Realm, the Twilit Kargorok) Once you get the Horse Call from Ilia, the horse grass becomes obsolete.

The Horse Call is given to you when you finally restore Ilia‘s memory. She meant to give it to you before you set out on your journey to Hyrule, but her kidnapping and lost memory prevented her from doing so. You can now call your horse from anywhere without looking for Horse Grass.

The wallet allows Link to carry Rupees that he collects on his adventure. Link will start off his adventure will a small wallet, which holds 300 Rupees. Agitha, the bug girl in Hyrule Castle Town, will give you both Wallet upgrades. She will give you the Big Wallet when you bring her one bug and the Giant’s Wallet when you bring her the entire collection of 24 bugs.

Midna’s key to stopping Zant. It is said to have the power of dark interlopers of Hyrule’s past. Midna later uses the power to gain access to Hyrule Castle.

Poe souls are the key to restoring Jovani to his original state. Every time you encounter a blue, floating lantern, turn into a wolf and use your senses to discover a Poe. Defeat it and finish it to steal its soul.

Agitha is expecting a giant bug party at her house, but none of the guests have shown up. Link will find Golden Bugs all around Hyrule, which you give to Agitha for easy rupees and Wallet upgrades.

Location: Sacred Grove

The Shadow Crystal is the evil magic Zant places in Link to stop him from changing back to Human after leaving the Twilight. Once Link grabs the Master Sword from the Sacred Grove, the crystal falls out and Midna saves it for later. The crystal helps Link change from human to wolf when he pleases.

Location: Various Locations

The shards of the Mirror of Twilight were scattered around Hyrule when Zant broke it. While he could shatter it into pieces, he could not destroy it utterly. Once the shards are put back together, they form the Mirror of Twilight, allowing Link access to the Twilight Realm. The Mirror was once used to banish criminals to the Twilight Realm, a fate which Ganondorf endured.

Auru gives you this memo to allow you access to the Gerudo Desert. Give the memo to Fyer, the cannon operator, and he gives you the Desert Oasis Flight, free of charge the first time.

Ashei is the key to getting to the Snowpeak Ruins. She gives you a sketch of a Yeti carrying a red fish. Show it to the Zoras around the Zora’s Domain and they will tell you that their Prince Ralis caught fish like that before.

Location: Hyrule Field – The Wooden Figure is a key to recovering Ilia‘s memory. It reminds the Goron’s of a hidden village in the Eldin Province that Link must visit. It must be retrieved by a pack of skeletal Stalhounds that roam the southern field at night.

The keys allow Link to open locked doors within dungeons. The Big Key is special; it allows Link access to the Boss Room within each dungeon.

The map and compass are found within each dungeon. The map gives you a full dungeon layout, while the compass shows off the location of chests, the boss room, and any other dungeon specific mission items. Using the map, you can also guess where you have to go next, or if you don’t have the compass, you can guess where the boss and mini-boss rooms are.

Ooccoo is a sky being that will help Link in dungeons. She gives Link the ability to warp out of dungeons with ease. Her son, Ooccoo Jr., will warp you back to his mother, wherever in the dungeon she may be.

 

Bottles and Bottle Items

Location: Various Locations – The bottle allows Link to hold certain items that he can use later when he needs them. There are four bottles to find:

  • The first bottle is given to you by Sera, when you return her cat. The bottle is half-filled with Milk.
  • The second bottle is given to you by Coro, the lantern salesman. He’ll give you the bottle if you buy a replacement bottle of oil for 100 rupees.
  • The third bottle is found off a small bridge near Hena’s fishing hole. You’ll need to bobber fish on the west side of the bridge and reel the bottle in.
  • The final bottle is given to you by Jovani, the guy looking for the Poe Souls. After 20 souls, he’ll give you a bottle filled with Fairy Tears.

The fairies give Link life. If you happen to catch a Fairy in a bottle and you lose all your hearts, the Fairy will release itself and bring Link back to life, restoring eight hearts in the process.

Chu Jellies are found by killing Chu Chus. If you kill the Chu, it will turn to jelly that you can scoop with bottles. Each color will have different effects. Red and Blue restore hearts (the same amount as the potion of the same color), Purple will either restore health or take health away, Yellow will act as Lantern Oil, while the rarer Gold Chu jelly will restore hearts and temporarily boost attack strength.

Location: Jovani’s House/Fairy Springs

Fairy’s Tears are the ultimate in health and attack. It restores life and briefly boosts attack strength, just like the Golden Chu jellies. They are given to you by Jovani for giving him 20 Poe Souls. You can also get them from Fairy Springs once you defeat the harrowing Cave of Ordeals.

Milk acts as a health restorer. The first bottle you get will be half filled with Milk. A single portion will restore 3 hearts.

Water is used to make certain plants grow around Hyrule. Hot Springwater will restore hearts, but only if Link drinks it within minutes of collecting it; it becomes normal water after a while.

Coro has broth in the pot near him. The broth will either restore health or damage Link when he drinks it. The expression on Link’s face is priceless.

Location: Snowpeak Ruins

While you explore the Snowpeak Ruins, Yeto the Yeti will be cooking soup for himself and his wife, Yeta. He will be cooking a Simple Soup, which will restore two hearts. When Link gives him the Pumpkin, it will turn into Good Soup, which will restore four hearts. When Link gives him the Pumpkin and the Ordon Cheese, it will turn into the Superb Soup, which will restore eight hearts.
