A Zelda game would be incomplete without those pesky lesser enemies to block your path. Twilight Princess used many enemies fans know from prior games, as well as new enemies thrown in. Here is the list of all the enemies in the game, where they are located, and what will dispatch of them the quickest. For ease, the list is in alphabetical order.

Enemies

Aeralfos

Locations: City in the Sky (mini-boss), Hyrule Castle

The Aeralfos are named as such because they are essentially aerial Lizalfos. You’ll first meet one in the City in the Sky as a mini-boss. To effectively beat them, you’ll need the clawshot and your sword. Target either the foe or aim right at the shield, and bring the foe to the ground. Once on the ground, smash away with your sword. Aeralfos will attack with a dive attack, so keep your shield handy. Also, after a few hits, the Aeralfos will start moving around whatever arena you find it in, giving you an added challenge when taking him down.

Armos

Locations: Various Dungeons

Armos have been a long running enemy in Zelda games, dating back to the original. Armos are statues that come to life if you touch them, some if you get too close. Armos in Twilight Princess will look different to most hardcore Zelda fans. Armos in this game look more lifelike and wield a hammer. Same strategies apply, however. There will be a weak gem on the backside of the statue that can be hit with the sword or the Ball and Chain (before it even has a chance to move). It can be hit too with a bomb arrow in the front before it moves, but it has to be hit in the right spot. Run away after attacking it, as they will charge after you and try to attack you.

Baba Serpent

Locations: Forest Temple, City in the Sky, Hyrule Field

Baba Serpents are Deku Babas once detached from it’s roots, will start hopping around the ground going after its attacker. In similar fashion to a Deku Baba, it will hide in a Deku Plant and then pop up when an enemy is approached. Some may attack from the ceiling, to which the best way to attack would to detach the plant from the ceiling with the Gale Boomerang and attack with the sword. You can also just leave them alone.

Baby Gohma

Locations: Temple of Time

Baby Gohmas are small circular spider-like creatures that make their home within the Temple of Time. They appear within two rooms of the main temple, and once in the Boss Room. They will normally attack in large groups. The Ball and Chain or a statue controlled by the Dominion Rod are the best ways to attack these spiders. In the main temple, the spiders will run away from Link. In the Boss Room, they will attack you directly or protect the eye at the end of the battle.

Bari

Location: Lakebed Temple

The jellyfish-like creature loves to hang around water, which is why you’ll find it in the Lakebed Temple. They were initially found in Ocarina of Time, but unlike their counterpart, these Pari stay in water. They will attack you with an electric field, which will only last a little while. Once down, you can attack with the Clawshot to take out the gooey brains.

Beamos

Locations: Goron Mines, Temple of Time

The Beamos are another staple of the series that have been around for a while. All Beamos share similar qualities: They are statues that emit a small laser beams targetted at Link. The ones in Twilight Princess come in Brown and White varieties, but the technique to kill them is the same. Using the Hero’s Bow, a well-targetted arrow to the red eye on the top will disable the statue. The ones in the Temple of Time can also be destroyed with a nice smash from the Dominion Rod controlled statue’s hammer.

Bee

Location: Ordon Village

Just a simple bee. It will fly around and sting anything that gets too close to its hive. The only reason to get anywhere near the hive would to gather some Bee Larvae, which is useful in fishing and health boosting.

Big Deku Baba

Locations: Forest Temple, City in the Sky

A Big Deku Baba is as the name implies, a bigger version of an ordinary Deku Baba. Dodge all attacks the Baba has for you, and then attack with your sword. They will retire the same way as a normal Deku Baba, but will take a few more hits to accomplish. Some can be found on top of a Deku Likes, which can be taken out with a bomb.

Bokoblin

Locations: Various Places

Bokoblins are small goblin-like creatures that will attack anything they don’t like. Link meets them mostly in Southern and Eastern Parts of Hyrule, as well as the Forest area and the Hyrule Castle. There are two varieties: Blue and Purple. Blue ones are simply defeated with the sword or any other weapons you may have in your arsenal. Purple ones can be taken out the same way, they will just stay alive a little longer.

Bombfish

Location: Lakebed Temple

Bombfish are bomb fish. They will swim around small lakes within the Lakebed Temple and attack Link if he submerges. You can pull them out of the water with the Clawshot and attack with the sword. You can also fish them out with the Fishing Rod and keep them as Water Bombs.

Bombling

Locations: Forest Temple; Later bought in Kakariko Village

Bomblings are mobile bombs. They will walk around and attack Link if ignored. If attacked, it will start a self-destruct countdown, which effectively turns the creature into a bomb. They are initially found in the Forest Temple and used in a couple of situations. After the Bomb Shop gets up and running, Barnes will send you a letter saying that he will be selling Bomblings. These bombs are used in the same way; once let go, they will walk until they make contact and explode.

Bomskit

Locations: Hyrule Field

Bomskits are small flying creatures that won’t harm Link initially. They will drop bombs if intimidated, but otherwise just run away. They can be defeated with a projectile weapon, like a arrow or clawshot. They will drop worm bait that you can use while fishing.

Bubble

Location: Arbiter’s Grounds

Bubbles are skull heads with wings. They will float around rooms and come in three different varieties. Regular White Bubbles are just the skull and will just attack. Red Bubbles are encased with a red flame and will burn Link if he gets too close. Blue Bubbles will be encased with a blue flame and will freeze Link if he gets too close. Basic strategy is to use a well placed arrow aimed at the skull will take them down. The Ball and Chain is also a good weapon to use if there are a group formed together.

Bulblin

Locations: Various Places

Bulblins are beefed up versions of Bokoblins. They have green skin and will carry either a huge club or a flame arrows. Two can fit on a Bullbos and ride after Link shooting him with arrows. Location: Snowpeak Ruins

Chilfos are chilled warriors that make home in cold climates. They wield an icicle that can be used as either a spear in hand-to-hand combat, or as a javelin for long distance attacks. If you can close enough to one, you can take it down with your sword. Otherwise, in large numbers, a Bomb Arrow can take out a group, as well as the Ball and Chain.

Chu Worm

Location: Lakebed Temple

Chu Worms are found in the Lakebed Temple and are covered by a liquid-like bubble. You cannot harm a Chu Worm if it remains in its bubble, so you need to either destroy the bubble or get it out of the bubble. A Bomb Arrow will destroy the bubble so you can attack the worm. You can also use the Clawshot to extract the worm and attack it that way. Either way, it will be defeated with your sword once out the bubble.

ChuChu

Locations: Various Places

ChuChus are jelly-like creatures that will attack Link by jumping at him. The sword, as well as most weapons in your arsenal, can take down a ChuChu. Once defeated, a ChuChu can be gathered up in a bottle and used later with different outcomes based on its color. Red, Green, and Blue ChuChus will act as the potion of the same color. Purple ChuChus will produce a random effect, either by giving or taking hearts or other various effects. Yellow ChuChus will act lantern oil. Gold ChuChus will replenish all hearts and increase attack power.

Darknut

Locations: Temple of Time (mini-boss), Hyrule Castle

Darknuts are another of the recurring enemies within the series. In Twilight Princess, they are armored knights would wield a long sword (or mace) and circular shield. As a battle with one progresses, it will lose its armor and shield, and throw its long sword (or mace) at you. Once its lost all armor, it will switch to a smaller sword and be more agile and quicker. The strategy for all Darknuts are to attack the back of one with one of your many Hidden Skills. Many sword attacks on the front of a Darknut will result in a counter. When confronted with multiple Darknuts, the best strategy would be to focus one Darknut at a time, and try to separate the two from each other.

Deku Baba

Locations: Forest Temple, City in the Sky

Deku Babas are plant-like creature that will lunge at its prey with sharp teeth or attack with its head. Deku Babas also come in Shadow form, but are defeated the same way.

Deku Likes

Locations: Forest Temple, City in the Sky

Deku Likes are mixture of a Deku Baba and a Like Like. While they are plant-like on the exterior, they will suck in Link with it’s tounge if it gets too close and start to eat him. The most effective way to defeat one is throw a Bombling or a Bomb inside it, and it will explode.

Dodongo

Location: Goron Mines

Dodongos are one more example of a long running species in Zelda. Dodongos in all games are reptile like creatures who spit fire. In Twilight Princess, Dodongos are more slender and look more like a gecko, rather than a large dinosaur. While bombs were the effective weapon in most other games, you sword will actually do the most damage in this game. When cornered, run around to a Dodongo’s tail and attack it.

Dynalfos

Locations: Various Dungeons

Dynalfos are a more armored version of a Lizalfos and are much stronger. Counterattacking is main strategy to defeating a Dynalfos, with either a Shield Attack/Helm Splitter combo, or other Hidden Skills. If you tire from battling them, a well placed Bomb Arrow can also take down a Dynalfos easily.

Freezard

Location: Snowpeak Ruins

Freezards in prior games looked like giant icicle creatures that froze Link on the spot. In Twilight Princess, they look more dragon like, but the end result is the same. They will shoot out a stream of ice, which will freeze Link on contact. Hitting them straight on with the Ball and Chain will defeat them easily. As they are in the Dungeon with the Ball and Chain, before you obtain the item, you must destroy them with a well placed Cannon Ball. There is also a mini version of a Freezard that can be created by breaking a Freezard with the Ball and Chain. You can defeat them the same way as a regular Freezard.

Helmasaur

Locations: Lakebed Temple, Hyrule Field

Helmasaurs are small dinosaur like creatures who wear a piece of armor usually around their face. They are essential in defeating the Boss of the City in the Sky, Argorok.

Death Sword is the mini-boss of the Arbiter’s Grounds. The battle will cause Link to use both Human and Wolf Link to defeat it. You’ll enter the room and notice a giant sword in the middle of the room constricted by ropes. Slicing any rope on the sword will cause Death Sword to appear. Once he appears, switch to a Wolf and use your senses to keep an eye on the swordsman. Block its sword blow and latch on to attack, which will cause him to become visible. Switch back to Human Link to complete the battle. You have to bring the swordsman to the ground, and you can do so by either firing an arrow at him, or the Clawshot. Once hit the first time, it will circle you, to which point you can stun it with an arrow, the Clawshot, or just a sword swipe. Attack its head once stunned to damage the swordsman. Two or three good rounds of this cycle will defeat Death Sword for good and give you the Spinner.

Darkhammer

Location: Snowpeak Ruins

Darkhammer is the mini-boss of the Snowpeak Ruins. The battle will take place in a small corridor with not much room to move. Darkhammer is an armored creature that will use the Ball and Chain to attack you. To avoid being hit and to attack Darkhammer, you’re going to have make use of the Clawshot targets on the ceiling. When Darkhammer draws nearer (but not too close), shoot at a target, zip by the mini-boss, and avoid the attack of the Ball and Chain. When Darkhammer sends out the Ball and Chain, it will take him a short while to retrieve it, which will allow you access to his tail in the back. Attack the tail before Darkhammer turns around and then avoid the Ball and Chain once again. Three rounds of this cycle should down the armored one and give you access to the Ball and Chain he was just using to hurt you.

Darknut

Location: Temple of Time

A Darknut is the mini-boss of the Temple of Time. The strategy for defeating him is listed above in the enemies section. Once defeated, it will hand over the Dominion Rod that gives you control over certain statues in the Temple of Time.

Aeralfos

Location: City in the Sky

An Aeralfos is the mini-boss of the City of the Sky. The strategy for defeating him is listed above in the enemies section. The only difference between a normal Aeralfos is that this one will circle around the outside of the building you face him. When he leaves the building, get out the Clawshot and point toward the windows. If you can target the enemy before it dive attacks, you can take it down with the Clawshot and attack it again. Once you defeat it, it will hand over another Clawshot, giving you access to two.

Phantom Zant

Location: Palace of Twilight

There are two Phantom Zants in the Twilight Palace. Both guard a Sol that you must retrieve in order to obtain the Master Sword infused with Light. Both battles have the same strategy. Phantom Zant will send out a dark ball of matter, which will explode into various Twilit Monsters, then disappear, floating around the room. Once you either defeat all the enemies, or they all disappear, find Zant and wait for him to attempt to send out another burst of monster. When he is distracted, attack with the sword, which will cause him to disappear again. Continue this strategy for about three rounds and he will be defeated, giving you one Sol. Defeating both Phantoms will give you both Sols and the Master Sword infused with Light.
