Description

This is the largest original stage in Brawl. It consists of four differently shaped base platforms spread throughout the stage (the two at the bottom right are joined by a breakable wooden board), and above and around them are a bevy of passable platforms, including some moving platforms. There’s also a passable platform toward the right that swings back and forth like a pendulum. Additionally, on somewhat rare occasions, a limmo will hover across the bottom of the stage serving as an extra emergency platform for anyone in danger of falling to their death (the limmo is otherwise just moving in the background). The only hazard on this large stage is the occasional appearance of an enemy called the Ultimate Chimera, which will wander up and down one of the base platforms for a while and then disappear again. If a player gets caught in its grasp, though, it results in just about every instance in a one-hit KO.

The stage’s design has a kind of dark carnival theme to it, comical yet insidious. It’s filled with balloons, spotlights, rides, and many “fun” looking buildings (funhouses perhaps?). Also of note is the Porky Statue on the right side of the stage’s foreground–which plays a large role in one of the early stages of The Subspace Emissary. The stage is set at dusk against an ominously cloudy sky, and the city itself has its foundation on a massive rock being held in the sky by jet populsions under the stage. In the far background is a distant metropolis–not too dissimilar to the real New York City.

This stage is where the two EarthBound series characters (Ness and Lucas) are fought in All-Star mode. It is also where Solo Event 27 and Co-op Event 14 take place.

Nostalgia

This stage is lifted directly from Mother 3, and is indeed the final area of that game, the city that series antagonist and schoolyard bully Porky Minch built. There is great irony in this because Mother 3 was released only in Japan, despite a sizable American and PAL fanbase that clamored for an English-speaking version of the game. The Ultimate Chimera enemy was just as imposing in Mother 3 as it is in the Brawl stage, since it will kill the entire party with a single hit if engaged in battle. The aforementioned Porky Statue also has a daunting HP of 100 million when engaged, but a special item can reduce it to just one. The final battle of Mother 3 is against Porky in the same spider-like contraption that he uses against the player in The Subspace Emissary.
