Bomb Bag

FOUND: Temple of Wind
HOW TO GET: Upgrade 1: Buy at Beedle’s Shop for 1000 rupees. Upgrade 2: Gained at Bannan island after reaching 2500 points in the Cannon Game.
DESCRIPTION: These have appeared in just about every Zelda game to date. An essential item for any inventory. A Bomb Bag is just what it sounds like – a bag that holds bombs. Throughout your journey you will encounter obstacles and puzzles that will require thought, many paths forward can be revealed with one little blast. There are three sizes of Bomb Bags, and collecting them all will make your quest that little bit easier. The first bag will hold only 10 bombs, the second bag holds 20 bombs and the last bag holds 30 bombs. The bombs will blow up cracked walls to reveal treasures or hidden items, they will also do damage to enemies, but watch where you place your bombs, because if you’re standing too close when they explode you’ll take damage too! Don’t rush your bomb-throwing, though, as the fuse will not be lit until you actually do something with it.

Bombchu Bag

FOUND: Goron Temple
HOW TO GET Upgrade 1: Bought at a shop for 2000 rupees. Upgrade 2: Finish the Goron Game course at Dee Ess Island in less than 35 seconds.
DESCRIPTION: Ever wished that you had a little more control with your bombs? Well, the Bombchus are here to help. Bombchus are bombs with a difference. They follow a line drawn with the stylus, making it easier to reach certain places throughout the game. Although they are only obtainable fairly late in the game, they are still a great item to have. They come in bags like the normal bombs, again, upgradeable as you progress. The first bag holds 10 Bombchus, the second bag holds 20 Bombchus and the last bag holds 30 Bombchus. So if you’re ever stuck and can’t see a way out, look a little closer and see if there’s a space or gap that a Bombchu might squeeze through. They can be used to hit switches and destroy enemies, so draw a path on the screen and watch the action explode.

Boomerang

FOUND: Temple of Fire
DESCRIPTION: The faithful boomerang has appeared in every Zelda title to date, with the exception of Majora’s Mask, which instead had boomerang-like fins. The boomerang is possibly the most useful of all the items and is considered a classic to the series. It is a weapon which Link can control with great ease and precision. You guide a path for the boomerang to follow by drawing it on the lower screen using the stylus. Providing you don’t draw a path through walls or objects, then the boomerang will follow the drawn line and return back to Link. It can be used to stun/kill enemies, collect rupee’s and hearts which would otherwise be unreachable. It’s best and most common use, perhaps, is that it can be used to activate switches from a distance. This is an essential item which is put to good use throughout the entire game.

Grappling Hook

FOUND: Temple of Ice
DESCRIPTION: The grappling hook is another item which has many uses. It first appeared in the Super Nintendo title “The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past” and has played a part in many titles since. When equipped with the grappling hook, Link is able to use it to pull small, light objects like pots, hearts and rupee’s toward him. This item also works the other way around by using it to pull Link toward heavy objects such as chests, enabling vast gaps to be crossed with ease. Like the boomerang, it can be used to stun/defeat weak enemies, or even to push stronger enemies off the edge of ledges or platforms. But it’s most interesting use is that Link can connect each end of the grappling hook to two heavy objects or posts and create a tightrope to walk across. So that gap that you’ve been unable to cross seems that little bit easier now.

Hammer

FOUND: Mutoh’s Temple
DESCRIPTION: This item can be traced all the way back to the second title of the series, “The Legend of Zelda: Adventure of Link”, although it has evolved somewhat since. Like the hammer from the Wind Waker, it is used to smash rusty switches that will not budge by simply using your sword. It also makes an excellent weapon, delivering a deadly blow on impact with devastating effect. It is also a chargeable weapon, meaning that the power can be built up (much like the sword’s spin attack in older titles) to deliver an extra powerful blow.

Oshus’s Sword

FOUND: Oshus’s storehouse (Mercay Island)
DESCRIPTION: This is the first of two swords you will receive during the game and believe me, you’re going to need it. The only problem is that it belongs to Oshus. Once you find his storehouse and figure out the puzzle there, Oshus will appear and catch you trying to remove his sword. After a little dialog and some gentle persuasion from Ciela, Oshus will kindly surrender his sword, teaching Link the basics to survive. Attack enemies by sliding the stylus between Link and the target, or tap the enemy with stylus for precise hits. Also, by drawing a circle quickly around Link will result in the all too famous spin attack.

Phantom Sword

FOUND: Zauz’s Island
DESCRIPTION: While Oshus’s sword will aid you through most of the game, it will be of no use toward the end. For defeating phantoms (and ultimately Bellum), you will need to find the three pure metals scattered across the seas. When fused together by Zauz, these three metals will form the blade of the phantom sword. When Zauz has finished the sword, he will inform you that you need a handle for it. For this you will need to pay another visit to Oshus, where you will hear an interesting story and be presented with a handle. Now that the sword is fully completed, you are fit to take on the evil might of Bellum, defeat the phantoms and save Tetra from her stony state. The control method for the phantom sword is exactly the same as before, albeit stronger and more powerful.

Shovel

FOUND: Molida Island
DESCRIPTION: The shovel has little use throughout the game, except for digging up treasure and rupee’s. On your travels, if you come across a suspicious looking patch of ground, simply equip your shovel and and start digging. You may unearth treasure maps, rupee’s or items such as bombs, arrows and hearts, all of which are useful. Apart from this, the shovel has little use.

Quiver

FOUND: Temple of Courage
HOW TO GET: Upgrade 1: Buy at a shop for 1000 rupee’s. Upgrade 2: Score 1800+ points in the shooting gallery game.
DESCRIPTION: Another classic and essential item for Link’s inventory. The bow and arrows have appeared in pretty much every Zelda game so far. The bow is what you use to fire your arrows from and the quiver is what you use to store them in. The quiver is an upgradeable item, eventually allowing you to hold more arrows (much like the bomb bags). You won’t get far through the game without this item. As with previous Zelda titles, many puzzles and obstacles are overcome by using the bow and arrows. Switches can be activated, enemies can be defeated and you will need to use this item to shoot at the eyes in the walls to reveal the path forward. The bow and arrows are undoubtedly an impressive item.

Wooden Shield

FOUND: Shops
DESCRIPTION: This is not the prettiest of items and definitely not the strongest, but it serves it’s purpose and is a must have for the budding adventurer. The wooden shield is very basic, but it will protect Link from weak enemy attacks, providing you do not take out your sword.Pop into a shop on your travels and grab yourself a bargain.

Potions

Red Potion

FOUND: Island shops – Random chests
DESCRIPTION: There’s not much to be said about the red potion except stock up. Potions are the elixir of life around these parts and should be kept in plentiful supply. Drink this potion to restore 6 hearts. A great item for those grueling boss battles.

Blue Potion

FOUND: Island shops – Random chests
DESCRIPTION: Much the same as the red potion in that it restores 6 hearts. Blue is a much cooler color, don’t you think?

Purple Potion

FOUND: Island Shops
DESCRIPTION: This potion will restore 8 of your hearts, but unlike the the red and blue potions it will automatically restore 8 hearts when you die. Remember the faries you can catch in a bottle from previous games? Well, the purple potion works in the same way. This is a pretty rare potion and is much harder to obtain than the red and blue ones. It’s price is reflective of this too.

Gold Potion

FOUND: Island Shops
DESCRIPTION: If you’ve ever wanted a potion that can restore all of your hearts, then look no further, Throughout the game you will gain a total of 16 hearts, of which this potion will restore all of them. This is by far the rarest and most expensive potion of all.

Replenishables

Rupee

DESCRIPTION: Rupee’s are the glorious currency of Hyrule. They are small gems of varying amounts and colors. Collect them by breaking pots, defeating enemies, digging the ground, cutting or walking in tall grass or by winning them in various mini-games. You can use them to purchase items on your travels or to barter with the characters you meet on your way. Various stages of the game are impassable without a plentiful supply of rupee’s (such as Goron Island). You will find that you need to pay certain people for information, or purchase something to pass certain areas of the game. Collecting rupee’s is an unavoidable process of the game, as you will find out.
TYPES: There are 6 different types of rupee’s, all worth different amounts. The values are as follows.
GREEN = 1 Rupee
BLUE = 5 Rupee’s
RED = 20 Rupee’s
BIG GREEN = 100 Rupee’s
BIG BLUE = 200 Rupee’s
BIG RED = 300 Rupee’s

Rupoor

DESCRIPTION: The clue is in the title. Basically, they are anti-rupee’s. They are black in color and will subtract from your stash of rupee’s, so you’ll want to avoid these like the plague.
TYPES: Like the rupee, rupoor’s come in varying amounts, although they are all of the same color, Black.
SMALL = minus 10 rupee’s
MEDIUM = minus 20 rupee’s
LARGE = minus 30 rupee’s

Arrow, Bombs and Bombchus

DESCRIPTION: These are the replenishable items used for bombing, shooting and bombchuing, respectively. They can all be found in shops, pots, by digging the ground or from defeating enemies. These are the items that keep Link on his toes and you will find it hard to progress without them, so keep your eyes peeled.
