Throughout the game you are bound to encounter many bad guys, all them which have their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Here you will find information about this, as well as in-game pictures of all the enemies in the game. The enemies are arranged alphabetically by name.

Anubis

Location: Spirit Temple

Anubis mirror your movements. They attack by shooting flames at you, and fire is also their only vulnerability. They only appear in rooms which have some kind of fire trap, and the key to defeating them is to activate the trap and lure them into it. It is, however, far easier to simply kill it with either a Fire Arrow or Din’s Fire.

Armos

Location: Dodongo’s Cavern, Gerudo Training Ground, Spirit Temple, Ganon’s Castle

Armos are statues that come to life when touched. They will slowly jump toward you, and attack by jumping into you. As a kid, you can either beat them by blowing them up with a well-placed bomb, or you can freeze them with a Deku Nut, after which a single hit with the sword will deal with them. As an adult, they can simply be cut with the sword. Beware, because once they’re defeated, they will charge at you and explode.

Baby Dodongo

Location: Dodongo’s Cavern

Baby Dodongos are tiny infant Dodongos, which pop out of the ground, charge at you, then leap. After their leap attack, they will generally retreat into the ground, regardless of wether or not they hit you. They can be defeated with a single swipe of the sword or shot from the Slingshot, but beware: they explode a few moments after being struck down, so keep away from them after slaying them. On a side note, with a little skill, their explosions can be used to blow things up when you have no bombs handy.

Bari

Location: Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly

Bari are the giant cousins of Biri. They only appear in a few rooms within Lord Jabu-Jabu’s belly, and can generally be avoided with ease. However, they’re not terribly dangerous, so you might as well kill them. They will appear by dropping from above, and they will attack with their tentacles, although they will never stray far from the spot where they dropped. Hitting it with the Boomerang will stun it, and will allow you to strike it with your sword. It will turn into three Biri upon being defeated. You can also hit it with a fully-charged Spin Attack, which will instantly kill the Biri as well, saving you some trouble.

Beamos

Location: Dodongo’s Cavern, Bottom of the Well, Shadow Temple, Spirit Temple, Ganon’s Castle

Beamos are statues with a rotating eye. If the eye notices you, it will fire an energy beam at you. Fortunately, their beams are fairly easy to avoid, and can be blocked with your shield. They can be destroyed with a bomb. Later on in the games, bigger versions will appear, that will need to be stunned with another bomb blast first.

Big Deku Baba

Location: Kokiri Forest (before clearing the Forest Temple as an adult), Forest Temple

As their name implies, Big Deku Babas are large versions of the Deku Baba, and needless to say, they are also tougher. Much like their smaller counterparts, they attack by lunging at you. You can either make them stand upright (by slashing it with your sword while it lunges or stunning it with a Deku Nut or the Hookshot) then cut them to get a Deku Stick (which you can’t use as an adult, go figure) or slash it twice while it isn’t lunging at you to get Deku Nuts.

Big Poes

Location: Hyrule Field (only as an adult, only when riding Epona)

Ten of this special kind of Poe roam Hyrule Field. They can only be found when riding Epona, and can only be defeated by shooting them with arrows (dismounting for an easier kill doesn’t work). After being hit twice, it will die, and you can catch its soul in a bottle, which you can hen sell to the Poe Salesman in the gatehouse of Hyrule Castle Town. Bringing all ten of them to the salesman will earn you an empty bottle. After you kill one and sell its spirit, as well as when you’re on foot instead of riding Epona, regular Poes will appear on the places Big Poes can be found, although they act exactly the same as a Big Poe.

Bigocto

Location: Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly

As its name implies, the Bigocto is a large octopus-like creature. It will run around in a circle through the room. Hitting it with the Boomerang or a Deku Nut will stun it, though it can only be killed by hitting its weak spot, which is on its back. The most effective way to do this is to chase it, get behind it, and hit it with the Boomerang, giving you a good opportunity to hit its back with your sword or a Deku Stick (the latter is recommended, as it deals more damage and this can be a particularly frustrating fight). Another way to kill it is to face it and hit it with the Boomerang as it’s coming towards you. It will be stunned for a moment, then start spinning around frantically. Stun it again and, with luck, its weak spot will be facing you.

Biri

Location: Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly

These small blue floating jellyfishes can electrify you when they touch you – and when you touch them! Though hitting one with your sword will kill it in one hit, it’ll also hurt you. This can be avoided by using a Spin Attack. Once you get the Boomerang, they will cease to be a threat: getting hit by it kills them instantly.

Blue Bubble

Location: Forest Temple, Shadow Temple, Spirit Temple, Ganon’s Castle

The Blue Bubble is a flying, winged skull enveloped in a blue flame. This flame protects it from your sword, but fortunately it’s easy to put out. Either let it bounce into your shield, or use a Deku Nut. When its flame shield is down, it will bounce around on the floor (off course, if you used a Deku Nut, it’ll be stunned). All you have to do then is cut it a few times. Beware, though, because even when its flame is gone, it can still hurt you, and it won’t stay gone forever.

Blue Tektite

Location: Zora’s River, Zora’s Fountain (only as an adult), Lake Hylia, Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly, Water Temple

Blue Tektites, much like their weaker red cousins, are spider-like creatures that attack by jumping into you. Blue Tektites can move both on land and on water, so watch out when you’re in the water yourself, as you’ll have no means of killing them while swimming or walking underwater (although you can still stun them with the Hookshot). Their jumping movement can make them somewhat of an annoyance, but they’re not very powerful, so they don’t pose any real threat. They take three hits with the Kokiri Sword to take down. If you pound the ground with the Megaton Hammer, all nearby Tektites will be flipped upside down for quite some time, making them unable to move or attack.

Business Scrub

Location: All over Hyrule

Business Scrubs are scrubs that shoot nuts at you, much like Deku Scrubs. Unlike Deku Scrubs, they can be defeated by any ranged weapons as well as bouncing their nuts back with your shield. When you hit them once, they will give up, and try to sell you something. Usually, this something isn’t very special or worthwhile, and can be bought at a shop for a lower price. Occasionally, however, there are more valuable to be gotten from Business Scrubs, like a Piece of Heart or more carrying capacity for Deku Sticks, so be on the lookout.

Dead Hand

Location: Bottom of the Well, Shadow Temple

When you enter the room this undead monstrosity resides in, it will be hiding underground. Several hands will be sticking out of the ground, which will try to grab you if you get near them. When they do, Dead Hand will show itself, and try to bite you to death. Shake loose from the hand holding you and attack its face. After a few hits, it will turn its invulnerable back on you, walk away, then go underground again, kicking up a harmful wave of dirt as it does so. If you don’t want its hands to grab you (we can’t blame you), Dead Hand can also be forced above ground by detonating a bomb above the place where he’s lurking. The only way to discern where he’s lurking, however, is by using the Lens of Truth.

Deku Baba

Location: All over Hyrule

Deku Babas are enemy plants with a green stalk and a blue bulb. There are two kinds of Deku Babas: those that simply stand there, and those that lunge at you. The former is easily defeated with a single sword-strike, and will always drop a Deku Stick upon its demise. The latter is slightly more difficult, as it actively attacks. A single sword-strike when it lunges at you (as well as a Deku Nut at any time) will make it stand upright, at which point another strike will kill it and make it drop a Deku Stick. Hitting it twice without making it stand upright will also kill it, but it will drop Deku Nuts instead of a Deku Stick. In the rare instances you encounter them as Adult Link, a single swipe of the sword will destroy these foes, leaving Deku Nuts behind.

Deku Scrub

Location: Inside the Deku Tree

Deku Scrubs are small green scrub creatures dwelling inside the Great Deku Tree. They attack by shooting nuts at you from their snout, and hide if you get too close. To defeat them, you must simply bounce back their nuts with your shield. That’s all there is to them. Once defeated, they will give a minor hint, and disappear, leaving a Recovery Heart.

Dinolfos

Location: Gerudo Training Grounds, Ganon’s Tower

Dinolfos are the bigger cousins of Lizalfos. It will be shielding itself a lot of the time, so you have to attack when it drops its guard; when it’s about to attack or has just attacked is usually the best time. Use your shield to block its attacks, and watch out for its leap attack, which can be difficult to block. If you’re having difficulty defeating these foes, stunning it with a Deku Nut or the Boomerang can make the fight easier.

Dodongo

Location: Dodongo’s Cavern

The creature after which Dodongo’s Cavern was named is a large, quadrupedal green dinosaur. While imposing creatures, their massive size makes them slow-moving, which makes avoiding them fairly easy. They attack by unleashing a stream of fire from their mouth (which can burn away Deku Shields), and by swinging their tail around. They can be defeated by tossing a bomb in front of them, which they will foolishly eat, as well as by cutting their tail. Note that they will not turn to face you when using their fire breath, giving you a good opportunity to get to their tail. Beware that, after hitting their tail, they will perform their tail attack, so it’s a good idea to move away after getting in a hit. Also, much like their baby counterparts, they explode once defeated, so beware of that as well.

Fire Keese

Location: Dodongo’s Cavern, Fire Temple, Bottom of the Well, Spirit Temple, Ganon’s Castle

Fire Keese, as their name might imply, are burning Keese. When they fly into you, they set you on fire, destroying your Deku Shield if you have it equipped, and causing extra damage. Their fire will be put out if you stun them with a Deku Nut, block them with your shield, or if they fly into you. If any Keese is exposed to fire (like a flame, or Din’s Fire) it will turn into a Fire Keese. They can be destroyed in the exact same fashion as their non-burning counterparts.

Flare Dancer

Location: Fire Temple

This fiery creature jumps out of the fire and starts dancing, releasing embers in the process. To defeat it, you must get rid of the flames surrounding its body. This can be done in several ways: you can smash it with the Megaton Hammer, throw a bomb at it, pierce it with an arrow, or Hookshot it. After that, it’s simply a matter of slashing it as much as possible. It will run around in circles around the room in an attempt to get away from you, but it’s generally not too hard to get a few hits in. If you’re having too much trouble catching up to it, you can try going in the exact opposite of the direction it’s going, so that it will run into you. Also, when you’ve caught up, try to always be blocking the way it’s facing. After a few hits, it will jump back into the flames and restore its fiery coat, and you must repeat the process. It will explode upon defeat.

Floormaster

Location: Forest Temple, Shadow Temple, Spirit Temple, Ganon’s Castle

Floormasters look identical to Wallmasters, but they behave rather different: they live on the floor, and attack by ramming you (so you don’t have to worry about being sent back to the start of the dungeon). When one is about to attack, it glows green, levitates, and makes a recognizable sound. Its attack can be blocked with your shield. A single slash with the sword will cause it to split into three smaller hands. After that, you have to defeat all three hands rapidly before one of them grows back into a normal Floormaster again. Immediately performing a Spin Attack or using Din’s Fire after it splits up usually kills most if not all of them. Beware, however, of any remaining hands: they tend to jump at your throat, and when one does, it will return to full size.

Floor Tile

Location: Fire Temple

These tiles will start hovering in midair, then fly at you rapidly. They can be dodged, blocked with your shield, and you can destroy them by attacking them. Generally, they don’t pose much of a threat.

Freezard

Location: Ice Cavern, Ganon’s Castle

These foes attack with their icy breath, which will freeze you if you get hit. They are fairly easy to defeat: three sword-swipes is enough to send them back to their maker, and Fire Arrows and Din’s Fire kill them instantly. Their main difficulty lies in the fact that they’re often encountered on icy floors, where you have reduced traction. This makes avoiding their breath and attacking them in between their attacks harder, but still doable. Hitting them once with your sword decapitates them, making them temporarily incapable of attacking you.

Gerudo Warrior

Location: Gerudo Fortress

These fierce warriors can be rather challenging, mostly because they have a special attack that will cause you to get sent to your cell, forcing you to find them again and start the battle over from the beginning. It’s fairly easy to recognize when one is about to do this attack: she will crouch down somewhat and twist her body around a little. She will then perform a jumping attack in which she slices with both her swords. It’s easy to get a hit in when she’s preparing for the attack or when she has just performed it, but be sure not to get hit by the attack. She can also be attacked at any other moment when she drops her guard. If you’re having trouble scoring hits, Din’s Fire is an easy way to deal damage.

Gibdo

Location: Bottom of the Well, Shadow Temple

These mummified enemies are very similar to ReDeads, though they have slightly more stamina. When they look at you, they will paralyze you with their stare, then attempt to climb on your back and eating you, gradually draining your health. They will only be able to use their gaze when they’re facing you. Avoiding them is usually easy, as they’re very slow-moving. Playing the Sun’s Song will freeze them, allowing you to slash at them with your sword. If there’s a lot of them around, Din’s fire can be devastating as well. Most other weapons are ineffective, though.

Gohma Larva

Location: Inside the Deku Tree

These creatures are small, but they can be a danger to inexperienced or careless players. They attack by pouncing, and will colour red when they’re about to do so. Either block their attacks with your shield or jump away from them. To defeat them, simply slash them with your sword or shoot them with your Slingshot three times.

Gold Skulltula

Location: Literally everywhere.

These gold-coloured arachnids can be found all over Hyrule. They take two hits to kill with most Child weapons, and only 1 as an adult, and only deal damage when touched. They make a recognisable (and annoying) scratching noise just like Skullwalltulas, but unlike them, they can be found anywhere, and they don’t move at all. At first glance, they don’t seem very notable, but first impressions are often deceiving: kill them and they leave a token, and by collecting enough tokens, you can get fabulous items which may make you very rich. However, if you thought you could just get as many as necessary by killing the same one over and over, think again. The moment you collect the token, the spider that dropped it is gone forever. Need help on finding all 100? Why not check out the Gold Skulltula Guide?

Great Moblin

Location: Sacred Forest Meadow (only as an adult)

This behemoth can be found just before the entrance to the Forest Temple. The easiest way to kill it is to shoot it with the Bow, or if you do not have it yet, to unleash Bombchus at it. If you don’t have either, you will have to run at it, dodging the shock waves it sends at you in the process, and slash it with your sword. It will take some time to recover from this blow, and it’s a good idea to get behind it during this time, because it’s fairly immobile, so it won’t be able to turn around quickly and face you. If you wish, you can make an easy getaway at this time; however, it will only take another two slashes to take it down, and since you’re behind it, it won’t be able to retaliate. It will drop Rupees when it dies, and generally it’s quite generous in doing so; it can be up to 60.

Green Bubble

Location: Forest Temple, Kakariko Well, Shadow Temple, Spirit Temple, Ganon’s Tower

Green Bubbles are skulls with wings, enveloped in green flames which go out periodically. When the fire is on, it is protected from your sword. They fly around in set patterns at all times. To defeat it, simply wait until its fire goes out (or use your shield to put it out quickly), then slash it.

Guay

Location: Lon Lon Ranch (only at night, only as a kid), Lake Hylia (only as an adult), Desert Colossus

Guays are small dark purple birds that appear in various places. They act similar to Keese, flying around, and homing in on you when they notice you. A single sword swipe will undo them, as well as a hit with any projectile weapon. In Lon Lon Ranch, giant Guays will occasionally appear if you kill enough regular ones.

Ice Keese

Location: Ice Cavern, Gerudo Training Ground, Ganon’s Castle

Ice Keese are Keese enveloped in icy blue flames, and can freeze you solid if they fly into you. They will lose their “flames” if you stun them with a Deku Nut, block them with your shield, or if they fly into you. If any Keese is exposed to Blue Fire it will turn into a Fire Keese. They can be destroyed with any weapon apart from Deku Nuts.

Iron Knuckle

Location: Spirit Temple, Ganon’s Tower

These giants are amongst the most powerful and intimidating enemies in the entire game. A swing from their massive axe does major damage if it connects, and send you flying far, while it will not flinch from any attack itself until its armor has fallen off. Its main weakness is its immense slowness, both in movement and in attacking. The best way to defeat it, therefore, is to use hit-and-run tactics. Quickly strike it with your sword, then avoid its retaliatory strike. As its recovering from swinging its mighty axe, you can go in again to deal some more damage. Repeat this until its armor falls off.

When its armor has fallen off, two things change: one, the Iron Knuckle becomes a lot faster, and two, the Iron Knuckle now flinches from attacks. At this point, rapidly slashing at it is your best option. It won’t be able to do anything back.

If you’re having trouble, there are a number of ways to make the fight easier. Nayru’s Love is an excellent way to avoid dying if you’re having trouble avoiding its attacks. Bombs and Bombchus are good ways to deal damage from a distance. Finally, if you’re fighting in the Spirit Temple, there are probably pillars around. The Iron Knuckle can be made to destroy these pillars, which will reveal hearts. Of course, having all the essential supplies and enough health is a good idea as well.

Keese

Location: All over Hyrule

These bats can be found in practically every cave and dungeon of Hyrule. Fortunately, they’re not very tough. They simply fly around, and when they notice you, they home in on you. They can be killed in a single hit by hitting them with just about any weapon.

Leever

Location: Haunted Wasteland, Desert Colossus

These small creatures are relatively harmless; their only attack is to ram into you, which does very little damage, and one hit with the Master Sword takes care of them. Their main difficulty lies in their numbers: they always attack in groups, and new Leevers will continue to appear as long as you’re standing in sand. Typically, a group of Leevers will appear around you from under ground, head in a straight line toward you, then disappear again, regardless of wether or not they hit you. After you’ve killed a number of Leevers, a large, purple one will appear, which will not simply charge past you, but continue to attack you until you kill it. It takes several hits to kill one of these.

Like Like

Location: Fire Temple, Water Temple, Bottom of the Well, Shadow Temple, Spirit Temple, Ganon’s Castle

These gelatinous tubes will try to eat you, and when they do, they will consume any Deku Shield, Hylian Shield, Goron Tunic or Zora Tunic you might have equipped. Fortunately, you can recover them by killing the Like Like quickly enough. They can be destroyed with just a few swipes of the sword, and they are particularly vulnerable to Din’s Fire and Fire Arrows. When a Like Like bends over, it will be invulnerable, so don’t bother attacking it then. For an easier kill, Like Likes can be stunned with Deku Nuts, the Boomerang, and the Hookshot.

Lizalfos

Location: Dodongo’s Cavern, Fire Temple, Spirit Temple

Lizalfos are bipedal reptiles wielding a sword, first appearing in Dodongo’s Cavern as a sub-boss. They often appear in pairs, though they never both fight you at once. Instead, one of them fights you, and when it has taken some damage, it switches places with its comrade. It often blocks or dodges your attacks, so you will have to attack when its guard is down. Usually, just before or after it tries to attack you is a good time. Most of its attacks can be blocked using your shield, but beware of it leaping over your head and landing behind you, then attacking, which can be difficult to avoid. If you’re having trouble getting in hits, you can try stunning it with a Deku Nut or the Boomerang.

Mad Scrub

Location: Sacred Forest Meadow (only as a kid), Kokiri Forest (only as an adult before clearing the Forest Temple), the Forest Temple

Mad Scrubs are bright red scrubs shooting nuts at you that will hide in their flowers if you get too close. You can bounce back their nuts by deflecting them with your shield, which will cause them to jump out of their flower. You can make them jump out by hitting them with any ranged weapon, and, if your timing is just right, by slashing them with your sword. From there, a hit with most weapons will kill them.

Moblin

Location: Sacred Forest Meadow (only as an adult)

These giant pig/bulldog-like creatures can be a pain. They march around in the maze-like area of the Sacred Forest Meadow, and will charge at you with their spear if they notice you. Since they’ll always be patrolling narrow paths, dodging them is impossible. Their charge can’t be blocked, either, so be careful. They will only walk back and forth in a single line, and will never hurt you if you stay out of their paths. To defeat one, wait for it to walk past you, so that its back is turned on you, then hookshot it. A single hit will bring it down. After you get the Bow, an arrow will kill them even when shot from the front.

Octorok

Location: Zora’s River, Zora’s Fountain (only as an adult), Lake Hylia, Gerudo Valley, Kokiri Forest (before clearing the Forest Temple as an adult), Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly, Forest Temple

Octoroks are small octopus-like enemies who’s behavior is similar to that of the Deku Scrub: they will appear at a distance, fire a rock at you and hide if you get too close, making it impossible to defeat them in close combat. They will also hide shortly after their attack, which can slightly hinder counterattacks. They can be defeated by bouncing the rocks they shoot back at them with your shield, or through a single hit with any ranged weapon.

Parasitic Tentacle

Location: Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly

These giant tentacles are linked to a column of electrified slime. They have a weak spot which can only be hit with the Boomerang. It’s fairly easy to defeat: just lock onto its weak spot and throw your Boomerang. It’ll then retreat for a moment, only to return again and attempt to attack you. Dodge its attack and hit it again. After a few hits, it’ll die, and a new way will be accessible.

Peahat Larva

Location: Hyrule Field

Sometimes, Peahats will send out their Larvae, which are smaller versions of the killer plants, a lot more mobile, and invulnerable to your weapons. They will follow you around until they touch the ground, at which point they die. This process can be sped up by deflecting them with your shield. They attack simply by flying into you.

Peahat

Location: Hyrule Field (only as a kid)

These giant flying turnips shoot up from the ground when you approach them, and can be rather powerful. As there is practically no gain in defeating them, they’re generally best avoided. However, if you insist on battling them, you must attack its root at the bottom while avoiding its razor blades. They can be blocked with your shield, but they will still get the occasional hit in. Perhaps a better method is to keep your distance and pelt it with Deku Seeds using your Slingshot. Both methods require a tremendous amount of hits, so prepare for a long and drawn-out (and rather pointless) battle. Peahats will never come out of the ground at night, and will send Peahat Larvae if struck with the sword during this time

Sometimes, these creatures take to the sky even if you keep your distance, especially in the Southwestern parts of Hyrule Field. They will go up a lot higher then normal, and start sending out Peahat Larvae. They can still be killed by continuously firing at their roots with the Slingshot.

Poe

Location: All over Hyrule

A Poe is a ghost that will disappear if you Z-target it. It attacks by swinging its lantern around and heading straight for you. It can still attack when invisible, you can’t attack it, though, so you’ll have to fight without Z-targeting. Luckily, they’re not very difficult to destroy: four swipes with the Kokiri Sword will be the end of them. When defeated, they will leave a purple flame. If you walk up to it, you get the option to catch it in a bottle. When cought, you can sell it to the Poe salesman in the gatehouse of Hyrule Castle Town as an adult, or you can drink it, which will randomly restore or deplete health.

Poe Sisters

Location: Forest Temple

  • Poe Sister Joelle
    • The first of the four Poe Sisters. At first, she hides in the three paintings above a flight of stairs. Shoot the painting in which she appears with your bow and it will be destroyed. Shoot them all and she will come out to fight at the bottom of the room. Like a normal Poe, she will turn invisible when locking on to her. She will also turn invisible after hitting her. Five hits will take her down.
  • Poe Sister Beth
    • The second of the four Poe Sisters. In effect, she is exactly the same as Joelle, only in a different room: she also hides in three paintings above a flight of stairs, and these paintings must also be shot. She too will turn invisible when locking on to as well as after hitting her. Five hits will take her down.
  • Poe Sister Amy
    • The third of the four Poe Sisters. To make her appear, shoot the big painting of her on the wall. This will make five blocks fall. Four of them contain a part of the painting. The fifth is black. Move the blocks to form the picture and Amy will appear. Fighting her is identical to the previous two: she will turn invisible when you try to lock on and when taking damage, and will die after five hits.
  • Poe Sister Meg
    • The fourth and final Poe Sister. She will appear in the central room of the Forest Temple once her siblings are defeated. Once you get near, she will create three illusionary copies of herself, which will disappear when attacked. To defeat her, watch the foursome for the one that spins around occasionally. That’s the real Meg. Lock on to her and shoot her with your bow. She will disappear for a while, then reappear. She dies after four hits.

ReDead

Location: Royal Families’ Tomb, the Market (only as an adult), Under the Well, the Shadow Temple, Ganon’s Castle

ReDead are walking corpses. They have a paralyzing gaze that freezes you in your tracks for a short time, and attack by jumping on your back and draining away your energy. They are slow-moving, so avoiding them is generally easy. They are invulnerable to most weapons, but your sword will do the trick. Din’s Fire can be useful as well, especially if there’s a lot of them in close proximity. To avoid getting paralyzed, try attacking from behind. Also, playing the Sun’s Song will freeze all ReDeads in their tracks for a while, making them all the more easy both to avoid and to destroy.

Red Bubble

Location: Death Mountain Crater, Fire Temple, Ganon’s Tower

This incarnation of the Bubble dwells in lava and comes out when you approach. They’re protected by their flames, which can be put out by having them bounce into your shield, but since these enemies move fast and erratically, it’s difficult to put their fires out then slash them. If they jump back into the lava, their fire shield is restored. Fortunately, they’re generally easy to avoid.

Red Tektite

Location: Death Mountain Trail

Red Tektites are weak spider-like creatures that attack by jumping into you. Their jumping movement can make them somewhat of an annoyance, but they’re never a major threat. Two sword-slashes (with the Kokiri Sword) will be the end of them, although other weapons can kill them as well. Pounding the ground with the Megaton Hammer will cause all nearby Red Tektites to flip over for some time, rendering them harmless.

Shablom

Location: Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly

Shabloms are large bubbles that bounce around. You can kill them by slashing them, but they will often bounce off your blade. A better option is to use the Boomerang, or if there’s many of them, a Deku Nut can instantly kill every Shablom within a decent range. If health isn’t a concern, you can also kill them simply by running into them.

Shell Blade

Location: Water Temple

These giant clams, when they notice you, will open up, exposing a vulnerable muscle, after which they will charge toward you. Their attack can be blocked with your shield or dodged. To destroy them, shoot your Hookshot at their muscle.

Skull Kid

Location: the Lost Woods (only as an adult)

Skull Kids are what becomes of kids that got lost in the Lost Woods. They do note look kindly upon adults, so they will attack you if you enter the Lost Woods as an adult (they will not attack you, not can you attack them, as a kid). They attack by shooting projectiles at you, which can be blocked with your shield. They can only be defeated by slashing them with the Biggoron’s Sword or Giant’s Knife. A single hit will take them down, and defeating them earns you an orange Rupee (worth a whopping 200 Rupees). Fortunately for those without the right equipment, they are very easy to avoid; people have beaten the game without ever realizing the Skull Kids were enemies.

Skulltula

Location: All over Hyrule

Skulltulas are large spiders with a skull design on its back. Their backs are impervious to many attacks, so in order to destroy these foes, you will have to either wait for them to turn around, or move to the other side yourself (although the former is generally a lot easier). Two hits with the Kokiri Sword will take them down. An arrow or Hookshot attack will instantly kill them, regardless of what side they’re facing.

Skullwalltula

Location: All over Hyrule

Skullwalltulas are spiders with a skull design on its back that can be found on vertical surfaces that can be climbed. They make the same distinct scratching sound as Gold Skulltulas. If you get near them, they will turn purple and charge at you, knocking you off whatever it was you were climbing at the time. They can be gotten rid of using any ranged weapon, as well as the sword in those rare cases where they get in slashing range.

Spike

Location: Water Temple

These metallic spiked balls never pose a major threat. They can be destroyed by hitting them with the Hookshot when they’ve retracted their spikes (at which point they will look like ordinary rocks). They can be made to retract their spikes by hitting them with the Hookshot or having them hit your shield, They will also retract their spikes on their own after some time. Because they’re slow-moving, they can often simply be avoided.

Stalchild

Location: Hyrule Field (only as a kid, only at night)

Stalchildren are small, skeletal creatures that come out of the ground at night in pairs of two. They will walk up to you and attack by punching you. Two hits with the swords sends them back to where they came from. A horizontal slice will decapitate them, severely disorienting them. Defeating many of these critters will cause a bigger one to appear, who takes as many hits to finish and does as much damage as its smaller counterparts, but generally drops more spoils upon meeting its demise. If you’re particularly industrious in the killing of these foes, an even bigger version will appear. Aside from a stabbing death, they are also vulnerable to your Slingshot, and will die when they get submerged into water – a weakness they themselves are not aware of as they often walk straight into it or even appear in it.

Interestingly, Stalchildren do not appear when you’re staying on the paths, nor when you’re wearing certain masks.

Stalfos

Location: Forest Temple, Shadow Temple, Spirit Temple, Gerudo’s Training Ground, Ganon’s Castle

Stalfos are amongst the toughest enemies in the game. These skeletal foes often attack in groups of two, and often, once you have defeated one of them, it will come back to life if you take too long slaying the other (although surprisingly, they will rarely attack at the same time). They are powerful warriors, and will often block your attacks. Z-target them so that you’re always ready to attack them and block their attacks. Occasionally, they will lower their shields for a moment, usually right before and after attacking, which is your chance to attack them. Stalfos know a variety of sword techniques, including the ability to jump over your head and attack you in the back. Also, they will often slash twice in rapid succession, so keep that in mind. If you happen to encounter them as a kid, you can stun them with the Boomerang, which will make the battle a whole lot easier.

Stinger

Location: Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly, Water Temple

Stingers tend to be found in packs. When you go near one, it will take to the air, fly around a bit, then try to fly into you. To kill them, hit them with your Slingshot, Boomerang, Bow or Hookshot.

Tailpasaran

Location: Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly

Tailpasaran are electrified worms. When you get near them, they will emerge from the floor and fly at you. Their heads are invulnerable, so you’ll have to strike their tail. However, attacking with your sword will make you take damage, so it’s better to use your Boomerang once you get it.

Torch Slug

Location: Fire Temple, Gerudo Training Ground, Ganon’s Tower

These red, fiery, and rather icky enemies attack by ramming into you. To defeat them, slash them with your sword. This will put out their flame. They will then run away from you and try to reignite their flame. Slash them again and they will die. Once you have the Megaton Hammer, you can put out their flame simply by pounding the ground near them. The shockwave will flip them over, putting out the flame.

Wallmaster

Location: Forest Temple, Bottom of the Well, Shadow Temple, Spirit Temple

These giant hands can be incredibly aggravating. The reason for this is because when they attack you, rather then just doing some damage, they will also return you to the start of the dungeon, forcing you to do a lot of backtracking. Fortunately, they’re fairly easy to avoid. When you enter a room with Wallmasters, Navi will tell you to watch for the shadows of enemies that drop from the ceiling, and this is good advice: when a Wallmaster is about to grab you from above, it will create a round shadow on the floor which follows you while slowly growing bigger, and it will make a recognizable sound. This is your cue to run around in circles like a maniac. Shortly before it reaches the ground, the circle will stop following you. Be sure not to stand where the circle is, and it will drop to the ground harmlessly, giving you the opportunity to kill it with your sword before it climbs back up again. It will generously release Rupees upon death. If these foes keep grabbing you, and you have magic to spare, casting Farore’s Wind in any room that has Wallmasters will save you the backtracking. Also, switching to first-person mode or climbing a ladder will stop Wallmasters from grabbing you altogether.

White Bubble

Location: Spirit Temple

Though it only appears very late in the game, the White Bubble is a pushover. It flies around in a pattern, and can only hurt you by flying into you. All you have to do to kill it is slashing it a few times. It’s as simple as that.

White Wolfos

Location: Ice Cavern, Gerudo Training Ground, Ganon’s Castle

These larger, arctic cousins of the Wolfos will circle around you, then close in for an attack. Be sure to Z-target them so that you don’t lose sight of them. Attack them when they drop their guard, such as when they try to attack you. Striking their tail will instantly kill them; their tail is often exposed when one of their attacks misses.

Wolfos

Location: Sacred Forest Meadow, the Forest Temple, Gerudo Training Ground, Ganon’s Castle

Wolfos are fierce enemies capable of standing on their hind legs and attacking with their forelegs. They will circle around you then close in to attack, so it’s a good idea to Z-target them so you’ll be facing them at all times, thus allowing you to block their attacks at all times.. They will often block or dodge your own attacks, so you’ll have to attack when they drop their guard for a moment. Just before or after they attack you is generally a good time. If you’re having trouble, stunning them with a Deku Nut might help. If you get the chance, attack their tails, as this will instantly undo these foes.
