Kokiri Sword (for Young Link)
Master Sword (for Adult Link)
Giant’s Knife / Biggoron’s Sword (for Adult Link)
These two swords are similar in appearance and are both too big to be held with only one hand, but once you try them out you will quickly notice the difference. Unlike the Biggoron’s Sword which is forged by a master smith, the Giant’s Knife will break if you use it against something hard. In order to find the Biggoron’s Sword, you must go through a very long trading sequence, which you can find out more about here.
Shields
Deku Shield (for Young Link)
Hylian Shield (for Young and Adult Link)
This shield is very strong, and unlike the Deku Shield it won’t catch fire. Hylian Soldiers use this in war. Purchase it at the Bazaar shop in Hyrule Castle Town. When used with Young Link, it remains on his back and acts like a hard shell.
Mirror Shield (for Adult Link)
A legendary shield made to be used along with the Master Sword. This special shield will deflect special attacks. You get the shield in the adult part of the Spirit Temple.
Kokiri Tunic (for Young and Adult Link)
Goron Tunic (for Adult Link)
Zora Tunic (for Adult Link)
Boots
Kokiri Boots (for Young and Adult Link)
[Both] – This is Link’s standard choice of footwear. He starts out the game with these boots, and uses them most of the time.
Iron Boots (for Adult Link)
When using these boots, Link can walk on the beds of deep rivers or lakes such as Lake Hylia. Be careful though, if you don’t have the Blue Tunic equipped, Link will not be able to breath under water! These boots are located in the Ice Cavern behind Zora’s Domain.
Hover Boots (for Adult Link)
Like the name indicates, Link can hover over short distances with these boots. They are the main treasure of the Shadow Temple.
Other Equipment
Bomb Bag (for Young and Adult Link)
With the bomb bag, Link can carry bombs. It comes in three different sizes:
- Small: Found in Dodongo’s Cavern, this bag will let you carry up to 20 bombs.
- Big: Carry up to 30 bombs with this bag which is the main prize of the at the Bombchu Bowling Alley in Hyrule Castle Town.
- Biggest: With the biggest bomb bag you can carry up to 40 bombs! You can get it by throwing a bomb at the rolling Goron in Goron City as he passes the sign that says “Stop my wild rolling”.
Deku Seed Bag (for Young Link)
This bag is needed in order to hold the Deku Seeds which are used as ammunition for the slingshot. It comes in two sizes:
- Big: Shoot 5 perfect shots at the target in the Lost Woods as a child, and you will receive this bag which holds 40 seeds as a reward.
- Biggest: Get this bag which holds 50 seeds by gaining a perfect score in the shooting gallery in Hyrule Castle Town.
Goron’s Bracelet (for Young Link)
The Goron’s Bracelet will increase your lifting capability quite a bit. You receive it once you play Saria’s Song in front of Darunia, the Goron leader. Use it to pluck out Bomb Flowers.
Silver Gauntlets (for Adult Link)
Although received by young Link, these can only be worn by a capable adult. The Silver Gauntlets allow Link to pick up rocks and boulders or push incredibly heavy objects.
Golden Gauntlets (for Adult Link)
The Golden Gauntlets are worn by someone with amazing power. These gauntlets allow Link to gain unbelievable strength in order to pick up and throw the largest walls and boulders ever seen throughout Hyrule. With these worn, Link is the strongest person in the land.
Quiver (for Adult Link)
The quiver will let you carry arrows to use with the Fairy Bow. The quiver comes in two different sizes:
- Big: This quiver will let you hold 40 arrows, and you can win it in the shooting gallery in Kakariko Village.
- Biggest: Carry up to 50 arrows with this quiver which can be won by scoring more than 1500 points in the Horseback Archery game at the Gerudo Fortress.
Silver Scale (for Adult Link)
Instead of just being able to dive down to 3M, Link can dive down to 5M with this scale! To obtain the Silver Scale you must complete the rupee- challenge the Zora on top of the waterfall in Zora’s domain gives you.
Golden Scale (for Adult Link)
With the Golden Scale you can dive all the way down to 8M, instead of the previous 3M and 5M! You get this special treasure by catching a fish that weights more than 18lb at the Fishing Pond in Lake Hylia.
Wallet (for Young and Adult Link)
To carry rupees, you need a good wallet. There are three different wallets in the game.
- Standard: With this which you start the game with, you can only carry up to 99 rupees.
- Adult: Get a hold of 10 Gold Skulltula tokens and go to the House of Skulltula in Kakariko Village and you will be rewarded with this wallet which lets you have up to 200 rupees at a time!
- Giant: Once you collect 30 Gold Skulltula tokens, do the same as with the adult wallet and you will get this huge wallet which gives you the ability of having up to 500 rupees!
Items
Bombchu (for Young and Adult Link)
If Link picks up a Bombchu and sets it at his feet, the mouse-like bomb will start running. If it hits something while running, or runs for some time without hitting anything, it will explode. You can win these bombs which are in fact modeled after the real life Bombchu at the Bombchu Bowling Alley in Hyrule Castle Town.
Bomb (for Young and Adult Link)
A very useful item to say the least. Use bombs to damage enemies by throwing it at them, or blow up walls by placing the bomb next to the wall. Once you pick up a bomb, you have approximately four seconds before it blows up. Be careful! Once you have got a hold of the Bomb Bag (see above) the bombs will show up all over Hyrule.
Boomerang (for Young Link)
With the help of the Boomerang, you can stun or even defeat enemies. When you throw it, the Boomerang will, just like it should, return back to you. Use Z-Targeting for optimum efficiency when fighting enemies with this item. This is the main treasure of the third dungeon, Inside Lord Jabu-Jabu’s Belly.
Deku Nut (for Young and Adult Link)
This is a very under-rated item. It is very useful when fighting enemies, as its bright light will stun even the toughest enemies around (there are still a few that won’t be affected however)! You can find the Deku Nuts practically all over Hyrule.

Fairy Slingshot (for Young Link)
Fairy Bow (for Adult Link)
When using the Fairy Bow, you will be able to shoot arrows which will defeat enemies. The bow can even be used while riding Epona. You will find the bow in the first temple as Adult Link, the Forest Temple. As you get further in the game, you will find three different types of magic arrows:
- Fire Arrow (2 MP)
- The first magic arrow you will find. It is used to burn enemies and melt ice. To get it, stand on the island in the middle of Lake Hylia (after you defeat the Temple and the lake’s water rises) and shoot an arrow towards the sun when it rises.
- Ice Arrow (2 MP)
- With this magic arrow, you can freeze enemies and then stand on them. Get all the keys in the Gerudo Training ground to get these magic arrows. You need the Silver Gauntlets and the Lens of Truth.
- Light Arrow (4 MP)
- These arrows are crucial in defeating Ganondorf, as the power of light is the only thing that can defeat the darkness in him. Free the six sages and you will be rewarded with this item.
Hookshot (for Adult Link)
This hook at the end of an extending chain will grab on to certain objects, and then swiftly pull Link to that object (think Batman and his Grappling Gun). A red dot is used for aim, and when the dot does not appear, it means the target is out of range. You will receive the Hookshot from Dampé the gravekeeper early in the Adult Link part of the game. Later on you will find the Longshot upgrade, which will give your Hookshot the ability to fire twice as far, inside the Water Temple. This item can even be used to defeat enemies under water!
Lens of Truth (for Young and Adult Link)
With this item you can see fake walls, which you can walk right through, and invisible platforms. Using this item consumes much magic, so be sure to watch your magic meter. The item is located in the Bottom of the Well, and you must open the block, and go there as young Link.
Magic Beans (for Young Link)
Purchase these beans from the guy that is sitting by Zora’s River. Every time you purchase them, the price will increase by ten rupees. Plant them at certain soft soils, and they will sprout eventually. A magic bean that has sprouted will turn into a platform (when you are adult Link) which will take you to certain places.
Megaton Hammer (for Adult Link)
Fairy Ocarina (for Young Link)
A musical instrument is similar to the Ocarina of Time, but it lacks the same power as the ancient relic. Saria will give you this item once you leave Kokiri Forest for the first time.
Ocarina of Time (for Young and Adult Link)
One of the Royal Family’s most sacred relics, and it has been kept secretly within the family for centuries. It has the power of manipulating the flow of time as well as warping you to other locations. Once you have collected all the three spiritual stones, rush back to Hyrule Castle, and you will receive this item from Princess Zelda.
Din’s Fire (for Adult Link)
If you find yourself surrounded by enemies, cast Din’s Fire and fire will wrap around your body, and kill the enemies close to you. Takes 6MP to use. You may need it to get into the Shadow Temple.
Farore’s Wind (for Adult Link)
Using this will surround Link with a green light, and the spot where you first use it will be set as a warp point. Using it again, will warp you back to the warp point. Consumes 6MP every time it is used.
Nayru’s Love (for Adult Link)
Nayru’s Love is used to create a blue, protecting light around Link. No enemies will be able to harm Link when he is surrounded by this light. The light will wear off after a short time. Takes 12MP when used.
Magic Jar (for Young and Adult Link)
Stone of Agony (for Young and Adult Link)
When you get this magic stone, you will be able to feel your controller rumble when you are close to a secret location. Of course, you will need a rumble pak for you controller for this to work. Collect 20 Gold Skulltula tokens and you will get this stone as a reward.
Gerudo Membership Card (for Adult Link)
With this card, you can prove that you are a valued person to the Gerudo tribe, and therefore, you are able to walk freely among the Gerudos. You are rewarded with this card after you free the lumberjacks.
Dungeon Map (for Young and Adult Link)
Located inside every dungeon is a map which will let you see all the rooms in the dungeon. Very useful for finding rooms you have not visited.
Dungeon Compass (for Young and Adult Link)
Small Key (for Young and Adult Link)
Boss Key (for Young and Adult Link)
It looks fancier than the small key for a reason, this is the key which lets you open the door which leads to the dungeon’s boss!
Empty Bottles (for Young and Adult Link)
Bottles are useful as the can be used to carry a variety of things such as milk, medicine and potions. There are four bottles hidden in the game, and here is how to get them:
- Catch three super Cuccos at Lon-Lon Ranch.
- As Young Link in Kakariko Village, find the Cuccos for the girl who has lost them.
- At Lake Hylia, dive into the water as Young Link, and you will find a bottle containing a letter from Ruto. This is the only bottle you will get in the main story
- Catch all ten big Poes in Hyrule Field and sell them to the guy that lives at the entrance to what used to be Hyrule Castle Town.
Masks (for Young Link)
Even though masks are mostly associated with Majora’s Mask, they did appear in Ocarina of Time as well. After going through a trading sequence Link would get access to five different masks from the Happy Mask Shop in Hyrule Castle Town, including the Keaton Mask as shown to the right. Completing the mask side-quest will give you access to the Mask of Truth, which allows you to ’see’ what people are thinking. It also allows you to talk to those odd stones with the eye symbol on them; the Gossip Stones.
