The Bombers’ Notebook is one of the most interesting and important features of Majora’s Mask. A massive interweaving series of side quests, the Notebook helps you keep track of the people you have helped throughout the game, and what exactly you did for them. Here you can find a complete walkthrough on how to complete all of the notebook assignments, as well as images to help identify those that need your help.
The Bombers
Once back in your human form and in possession of your Ocarina, go back to the mischievous gang of children known as The Bombers and play the hide and seek game once more. Once you find them all they will give you the Bombers’ Notebook (who would have thought a gang of children was committed to helping people?) The secret password to the Observatory will also be recorded in the Notebook.
Anju & Kafei
This is the longest task you will be charged with, spanning all three days and involving very specific events and actions.
Day One
2:00 pm: Head into the Stock Pot Inn, observing the Postman giving a letter to the desk clerk, Anju. Speak to her and when she asks if you have a reservation answer ‘Yes.’ She will give you a room key. Put on Kafei’s mask and speak to her again. She will ask that you meet her in the kitchen at 11:30 pm.
11:00 pm: Go into the Kitchen at the Inn to meet with Anju. She will give you a letter for Kafei. Put the letter in one of the mailboxes.
Day Two
2:00 pm: Make sure you are at the laundry pool for when the postman arrives to drop off the letter to Kafei. When Kafei leaves his house to collect the letter, run into the house ahead of him. When he comes back inside, speak with him and tell him that you can indeed keep a secret. He’ll give you the Pendant of Memories, which you should give to Anju at the Stock Pot Inn.
Day Three
1:00 pm: Go to Kafei’s house (in the laundry pool area). Inside you won’t find Kafei, but rather the owner of the Curiosity Shop. Speak with him and he will give you the Keaton Mask and Express Mail to Mama.
6:00 pm: Play the Inverted Song of Time, head to the Postman’s Office, and give him the Mail to Mama. Follow him to the Milk Bar and wait for him to come back out. Speak to him when he does and you’ll get the Postman’s Hat.
6:30 pm: Put on the Stone’s Mask (this is important, don’t forget!) and warp to Ikana Canyon. Jump into the river and swim to solid land. Head to the left and enter the area where there are two rocks on top of each other. Hide yourself behind the largest one and wait.
You’ll find Kafei. Remove the Stone Mask and speak to him. Wait for Sakon the Thief to arrive. Sakon will open his hidden hideout; quickly follow him inside.
Inside of Sakon’s hideout you’ll be switching between Link and Kafei. Link will have to fight enemies while Kafei hits switches to advance them through the lair. Complete the tasks on time and you’ll be rewarded with the Sun’s Mask. Once Kafei has it, warp back to Clock Town.
Head to the Stock Pot Inn and enter the first room you see when you’re on the second floor. Anju will be there, waiting for Kafei. Wait with her for a while and Kafei will make his entrance. A short cut scene later and you’ll have completed their section of the Bombers’ Notebook, getting the Couple’s Mask as a reward.
Man from the Curiosity Shop
Before attempting to complete this Notebook task, make sure you have the Giant’s Wallet. Starting on Day One, wait until midnight and save the Old Lady from the Bomb Shop from being robbed by Sakon in North Clock Town. To do this simply slash the stolen bag on Sakon’s back after he grabs it.
Spend the next two days gathering rupees until you have 500 in your wallet. At 10:00 pm on the Third Day head into the Curiosity Shop, where the All-Night Mask will be available for – you guessed it – 500 rupees. Drop some coin and you’re done.
Old Lady from the Bomb Shop
This Notebook task is actually completed in doing the previous one. All you have to do is save the Old Lady when she gets robbed at midnight on the first night in North Clock Town by slashing Sakon’s back when he steals her sack.
Romani
Get a Powder Keg from the Goron in the bomb shop in Clock Town by transforming into Goron Link. Head to Milk Road on the First Day. Destroy the big boulder that is blocking the path to Romani Ranch with the Powder Keg and head inside.
Speak with Romani, who should be outside the barn. Tell her you’ll help her defend the Ranch from ‘them’ and complete her test to satisfy that you can indeed help.
Go about your business until 2:00 am that night, making sure you have a full quiver of arrows and the Bunny Hood equipped. Mulder will be proved right, and aliens will appear on the ranch, undoubtedly after the cows.
Play the Inverted Song of Time, which in a move of extreme genius and slight cheapness will slow the space invaders down quite a bit. With your dashing Bunny Hood on and armed with your bow, circle the barn fending off the intergalactic fiends until 5:30 am, at which point your mission will be declared a success, and their’s a failure!
Cremia
Make sure you complete Romani’s Notebook assignment first, as Cremia’s cannot be done unless it is done first.
After fending off Aliens that first night, Cremia will tell you that she will be heading into town at 6:00 pm and that you can come along for the ride. Make sure you’re at the barn and ready to go (the means using the bathroom before you go!) by then, of course. Cremia will be waiting for you with a quaint little covered wagon. Hop on and get ready for a nice little ride.
But on your way to town two somewhat familiar-looking masked bandits will attack the wagon! They seem to be pretty bent on destroying the milk jugs, so you’ll have to ward them off with your bow and arrows. Lucky for you, you’ll have unlimited arrows with which to do this with (stolen alien technology, perhaps?). Protect the milk at all costs, and you’ll complete this assignment.
Mayor Dotour
On any day, head into the Mayor’s Office at 10:00 am, and walk right into a huge argument between the carpenters and the guards. The Mayor will be sitting in between the two bickering sides, looking rather down and flustered. Talk to the Mayor while wearing the Couple’s Mask to remind him what really matters, and he’ll spark right up, completing this Notebook task.
Madame Aroma
Speak with Madame Aroma on the first day around 10:00 am and you’ll receive Kafei’s Mask. Begin to do the Anju & Kafei Notebook assignment up until you get the letter from the Curiosity Shop owner – the Express Mail to Mama. Instead of dropping it in the mailbox and getting the Postman to deliver it, deliver it to Madame Aroma yourself, being sure to don Kafei’s Mask for the delivery. Doing so will complete this Notebook task.
Toto and the Gorman
To complete this assignment, on either the first or second day, sometime after 10:00 pm, head into the Milk Bar (keeping in mind you will need the Romani Mask to enter). Speak with the short, squat Zora (Toto). You’ll learn he is actually the manager of the world-renowned Zora band, the Indigo-Go’s. Speak with him as Link, and he’ll ask you to take the stage and play some music for him. Speak with him in all the other forms (Deku, Goron, and Zora), and soon you’ll be jamming on stage in all forms. The song will also touch the Gorman in attendance, and both he and Toto will have their Notebook tasks completed.
Postman
Go to the Post Office at 6:00 pm on either the first or second day. Play the Postman’s Training Game. For a quick and easy win, make sure you wear the Bunny Hood, which will cause the Timer to stay in one place the whole time. If only this assignment were that easy. To finish this task, you’ll need to deliver the message from Anju to Kafei by placing it in a mailbox (part of the larger Anju & Kafei Notebook task), and instead of delivering the Letter to Mama by yourself on the third day give it to the Postman to do. Follow him to the Milk Bar, where you will see Madame Aroma command him to leave the city before the Moon hits. With that, you’ll have completed his Notebook assignment.
Rosa Sisters
Apparently these two circus dancers need some inspiration in coming up with a new dance. Looking at what they have so far, they need it pretty badly at that. On either the first or second day at 6:00 pm put on Kamaro’s Mask and show them how to bust a move in West Clock Town. They’ll crown you Lord of the Dance and their task will be completed.
???
Disembodied hands that live in toilets need help too! Snag the Moon’s Tear that you get by visited the Observatory, and trade it with the Deku Skrub in South Clock Town to get the deed to his… plant.
As it gets to be about midnight, head into the Stock Pot Inn. Even though it is closed for the night, you should be able to get in through the door on the second floor, which you can get to by using the nearby Deku plant.
Head into the toilet and at the stroke of midnight, ??? will show up ask for some paper (for what, we don’t know). Give him the deed to the land and the assignment will be completed.
Anju’s Grandmother
The elderly actually have some pretty interesting stories; they just have the tendency to go on and on to the point where anyone would have trouble staying awake. This sweet old lady is no exception. While she may be mistaking you for someone else, it doesn’t mean you can’t stick around and listen to her stories. To do so all you have to do is put on the All Night Mask when you speak to her in her room at the Stock Pot Inn on the first floor, and viola, task complete and stories heard!
Kamaro
During the night on any day, head out through the North Clock Town gate. Walk along the railing to where those giant stones that look like mushrooms are located. Jump onto the one that has a circle of stones on it and wait for Kamaro to appear at midnight (don’t worry, he’s friendlier than Casper). All you need to do is listen to him, and his Notebook task will be completed.
Grog
A little bit of an oddball, Grog is really into chickens for some reason. He even likes to cut his hair so that he can match with his feathered friends. There are stranger people out there, though, and it shouldn’t stop you from giving the guy a hand. Just head into the Cuckoo Shack at Romani Ranch anytime you have a spare moment, and have a few words with him. After a conversation all you have to do is toss on the Bremen Mask and go for a march around the area. Collect the little chickens scattered around the shack, and once you’ve got all of them they will magically turn into full-grown Cuccos, much to the delight of their owner.
Gorman Brothers
Between 6:00 am and 12:00 pm on any day head to the Gorman Racetrack on Milk Road and challenge the look-alike brothers to a horserace. Apparently this costs ten rupees, which is a small price to pay to whip them in racing. Win the race and you’ll get the Garo’s Mask. The assignment doesn’t stop here, as you need to also complete Cremia’s Notebook assignment to finish off the Gorman Brothers task.
Shiro
Purchase a Red Potion on any day at any time. Ride Epona into Ikana, jumping the first two fences. Equip the Lens of Truth and head towards the circle of rocks just to your right. You’ll be able to see Shiro, an injured invisible soldier. Talk with him and give him the Red Potion, as it is good for what ails him. He’ll feel gratitude for no longer being ignored, and his Notebook assignment will be completed.
Guru-Guru
On either the first or second night head to the Laundry Pool. You’ll meet an interesting character playing some music on a crank organ. Just listen to his woes (apparently a lot of people in Termina really only need a good listener) and he’ll reward you with the Bremen Mask and a complete Notebook task.
