Here you can find a guide to all the various items and equipment Link may come to possess throughout his quest through Termina.

Swords

Kokiri Sword

This is the sword Link starts with at the beginning of the game. He first got his hands on it at the start of Ocarina of Time, and is already quite proficient with the short blade. While it isn’t particularly powerful, it is well crafted and will never break.

Razor Sword

The first potential upgrade to his sword Link can get. To get this blade, you must first conquer the Snowhead Temple, then visit the blacksmith who lives in the nearby Mountain Village; who will gladly upgrade your blade for you. The Razor Sword is much more powerful than the Kokiri Sword, it is double bladed and inflicts much greater damage. Unfortunately it is a rather fragile weapon, and will eventually break after one hundred swings.

Gilded Sword

The strongest basic sword in the game, the Gilded Sword is infused with gold dust, which combined with the master craftsmanship of the blacksmith makes it very powerful as well as completely unbreakable. To gain possession of this weapon you must first get the Razor Sword, then win the Goron Races to get some Gold Dust. Bring that to the blacksmith and he will forge the Gilded Sword for you.

Great Fairy’s Sword

This weapon is actually a C-button item, which means it cannot be used at the same time as your shield. While this is certainly a drawback, it also happens to deal more damage than any other sword Link has used thus far in the game. To get this item you must collect all of the stray fairies in the Stone Tower Temple and return them to the Great Fairy Fountain. The grateful fairy will reward you with this item.

Fierce Deity Blade

This intricate and magical weapon can only be wielded by the Fierce Deity, the strongest being in all of Termina. When Link dons the Fierce Deity Mask, whatever sword he happens to have equipped will transform into this magnificent blade. While this sword is too large to wield along with a shield, if you Z-target your enemy and you have enough magic in your magic meter, the sword will emit beams of magical light when you swing it that will also strike your target from a distance.

Shields

Hero’s Shield

The shield Link is carrying at the start of the game, the Hero’s Shield is not weak by any means. Made of steel, this shield will protect Link from almost anything, including fire. Its origins are unknown.

Mirror Shield

A legendary item in the land of Termina, the Mirror shield provides all the protective ability of the Hero’s Shield, while at the same time having the ability to reflect light and magical attacks off of its polished surface. It can be found at the end of the mini-dungeon at the Bottom of the Well in Ikana Canyon.

Additional Equipment

Bomb Bag

The Bomb Bag, as the name implies, allows Link to carry bombs along with him. Your first Bomb Bag can be purchased for 40 Rupees at the Bomb Shop in Clock Town.
If you want to get a larger bag, one that can hold up to 30 bombs, make sure you stop Sakon the Thief when he tries to rob the Old Lady in North Clock Town at midnight on the first night. The next day it will be available in the Bomb Shop.

To get the final upgrade to the Bomb Bag, talk to the Deku Salesman in the Goron Town as Goron Link. If you give him your current Bomb Bag along with 200 Rupees you’ll get the largest Bomb Bag, which can hold up to 40 bombs.

Quiver

Link’s Hero’s Bow would be pretty useless without any arrows to fire from it, and the Quiver is just the thing to help carry those arrows around. The first Quiver comes with the Hero’s Bow when you receive it, and can hold up to 30 arrows. Like the Bomb Bag, the Quiver can be upgraded to hold more arrows.

To get the first upgrade, which will allow Link to carry up to 40 arrows, win the Shooting Gallery game in East Clock Town.

To get the largest upgrade you must get a perfect score in the Swamp Shooting Gallery, which will get you a Quiver that can hold up to fifty arrows.

Wallet

Even a legendary hero needs money, and something to carry that money in. Wallets let you carry around Rupees, the currency of Termina. Link starts off with a Child’s Wallet, which can hold a modest 99 Rupees.

Link can have some pretty expensive tastes, so soon you’ll need a larger wallet to hold more Rupees. Depositing 200 rupees into the Bank in Clock Town can gain Link the Adult’s Wallet, which can hold up to 200 Rupees.

But for those major purchases an even larger wallet is needed. To get the Giant’s Wallet, which can hold a whopping 500 Rupees, make your way through the second Gold Skulltula dungeon in Great Bay.

Bombers’ Notebook

The Bombers Gang of mischievous boys seems to have a generous streak. The Bombers’ Notebook is given to Link as part of joining the Gang when you find all the members in a game of hide and seek. The Notebook keeps track off everyone in Termina that Link is to help, and keeps track of the good deeds Link does for them. It even keeps the records when Link travels back in time.

Items

Bombchu

Inspired by the enemy of the same name, Bombchus are explosive items that move around when set down, and continue moving in the same path (even climbing walls and ceilings) until they hit an object and explode. They can be purchased in the Bomb Shop in Clock Town.

Bomb

Carried around in Link’s Bomb Bag, Bombs are exceptionally practical. They can be used for killing certain enemies, blowing up boulders that get in the way, and demolishing cracked walls. While they can be bought in the Bomb Shop, they can also be found all over Termina, hidden in grass and granted as rewards for killing enemies.

Deku Nut

When thrown, Deku Nuts cause a bright flash of light that will temporarily stun most enemies, giving Link the edge he needs to move in to finish the battle. They can be found easily by killing Deku Baba plants.

Deku Stick

A multi-purpose item, Deku Sticks can be swung and used much like a sword, though they will break frequently; or they can be used to bring fire to an unlit torch. They can be found by killing the Deku Babas that populate Termina.

Hero’s Bow

A very handy weapon, Link picks up the Hero’s Bow towards the start of the game in the Woodfall Temple. The Bow is used to take out enemies from afar, trigger certain switches, and can even be fired while riding Epona. While most often you’ll be using normal arrows, you’ll also be able to discover and use three types of magic arrows as the game progresses.

* Fire Arrow (2 MP)

You discover this magic arrow in the Snowhead Temple, where of course it comes in handy in melting the ice and snow that often get in the way. It can also be used to burn and melt enemies that are vulnerable to fire.

* Ice Arrow (2 MP)

Found in the Great Bay Temple, the Ice Arrows are great for freezing enemies in their tracks, leaving them vulnerable to attacks or even using them as blocks to get to out-of-reach areas.

* Light Arrow (4 MP)

Found in the Stone Tower Temple late in the game, the Light Arrows are the most powerful of all the magic arrows, hence the higher cost to your magic meter. The Light Arrows dispatch enemies with minimal effort and will be especially helpful in the final boss battle.

Lens of Truth

Also called the “Eye of Truth,” this item allows Link to see various hidden secrets and treasures invisible to the naked eye. Fake walls become transparent, invisible platforms are revealed, and many other secrets are able to be seen while the Lens is equipped. To find this extraordinary item you must follow the Owl’s feathers in the Goron Town as they mark the invisible platforms you must traverse to get to the cave where the Lens is held.

Hookshot

A rather sophisticated piece of equipment, the Hookshot is a spring-loaded item that fires a hooked chain that can latch on to certain surfaces and pull you towards them. The Hookshot can also be used to pull certain items towards Link when they are just out of reach. The chest containing this contraption is in the Leader’s room of the Pirate’s Fortress. To get to it you’ll need to clear the room of Gerudo’s by firing an arrow at the bee’s nest in the room.

Magic Beans

These magical seeds can be purchased from a Deku Scrub that has set up shop beneath the Deku Palace in the Southern Swamp. They can be planted in patches of soft soil, where they will quickly sprout into a little plant. To speed the growing process, trying watering them with fresh clean water.

Ocarina of Time

This is a sacred musical instrument that was once a prized possession of the Royal Family of Hyrule. Princess Zelda gave it to Link before the events of this game, and its theft by the Skull Kid is what kicks off Link’s current adventure. Link can reclaim it from the Skull Kid by firing a bubble at him while in Deku Scrub form on the third night, mere minutes before the Moon strikes. Its time-altering and traveling powers remain intact in Termina, and it actually transforms along with Link when he dons different transformation masks.

Pictograph Box

This operates the same as any normal camera, allowing Link to take pictures of anything he pleases. Unfortunately it can hold only one picture at a time. If you take your picture to the operator of the Tourist Information building in the Southern Swamp, you may win a special prize if it is a good enough picture! Receive this item by helping the injured witch in the Woods of Mystery, then take her boat cruise.

Powder Keg

A very large and very powerful bomb, the Powder Keg is made and can only be operated by a Goron. Even then, only certain Gorons are allowed to purchase and operate these massively powerful explosives. If you wish to purchase one, you must first prove to the Goron who makes them in Goron town that you are capable of handling one while in Goron form.

Magic Jar

These jars of magic potion will replenish Link’s magic meter if he is running low on magic. They are scattered throughout Termina and are not very difficult to come across. They come in a small and large size, with the smaller ones replenishing less magic than the larger ones.

Dungeon Maps

The Dungeons in Termina are often long and complex. Luckily, each Dungeon also contains a Dungeon Map to help Link keep his bearings while exploring these dangerous and often confusing areas.

Dungeon Compass

While the Map is useful if one wants to avoid getting lost or traveling in circles, the Compass is just as invaluable. It marks the location of treasure chests, the boss room, and keeps track of where Link is and where he has been.

Small Keys

While exploring these Dungeons Link will often find a door that is locked with heavy chains. Rest assured there is a key for every locked door; all you have to do is find it!

Boss Key

Easily distinguished from the Small Keys, the Boss Key is an intricate key with a small ruby in its center. Unlike the Small Keys, this key opens only one door, the door that leads to the Dungeon boss!

Stray Fairy

As if directing the Moon to come crashing down on Termina isn’t enough, Skull Kid has also shattered the Great Fairies of Termina into these small strays, which wander lost throughout the many Dungeons. Find all of them and bring them back to the nearby Fairy Fountain and you will be handsomely rewarded by the appreciative Great Fairy.

Moon’s Tear

While most precious stones are mined from the ground, this one actually comes from the skies. From the Moon’s eye, to be exact, hence the name. If you watch the Moon through a telescope you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of where one falls.

Deku Land Title Deed

It seems Deku Scrub Salesmen have taken to the real estate business. Make the right offer and you could be the proud owner of one of their launch flowers that they call home, with this deed to prove it. From there you can find other Scrubs looking to upgrade to new locations that may be willing to trade their deeds for the one you now have.

World Map Pieces

Being unfamiliar to the land of Termina, Link will be looking to get a complete picture of the overworld to help him get around. Lucky for him, Tingle is quite willing to sell pieces of the map to Link for varying prices. Just speak with Tingle where you see him to buy new pieces to complete the map.

Pieces of Heart

There are many of these scattered throughout Termina, and collecting them in groups of four grants you with a brand new Heart Container, increasing your overall life bar. For a more in-depth look at where and how to get these Pieces of Heart, check out our Heart Pieces guide.

Heart Container

While collecting four Pieces of Heart will result in a new Heart Container, you can also get complete ones when you defeat the boss of a dungeon.

Sirloin Rock

Just because they eat rocks doesn’t mean Goron’s don’t have good taste. The Sirloin Rock is a gourmet delicacy, and if you give it to a Goron who is hungry enough you may just get a reward for your generosity.

Empty Bottle

Never underestimate the value of an empty container. Empty bottles can hold all sorts useful items. There are six total bottles you can get in the game. Here is how to get all six, as well as the various objects and items you can hold in them.

Beat the pants off of him (he is wearing pants), then race against his brother, doing the same to him. Your victory prize takes the form of an empty bottle.
