Since we’d rather not have Link die while trying to save the world, we’re providing this handy boss guide that’ll tell you where each foe’s weak point is, as well as full instructions on how to dispatch the dastardly demons. Don’t fail us, now!
This dragon-like creature is often thought of as a unicorn, which is not quite correct — It is more like a creature which eats unicorns for supper! It is a fearsome opponent, and will attack Link with dangerous beams which will come out in three different directions. It’s best to fight this enemy at full health. As I’m sure you’d know by this point, Link shoots beams from his sword at full health. There is a spot across the room from the boss where Link can stand and not get touched. You may then attack freely without being harmed.
In the north part of the dungeon is the bow. If you buy arrows from certain shops, you can have arrows to fire at Aquamentus. If you have trouble remaining at full health until you get to the boss, this is another strategy. Arrows are a powerful weapon in this game.
If nothing else, you can attack with a hit and run strategy. Move away when he fires, and move in during the lapses to attack with either the sword, or even bombs. It’s not a tough boss.
This creature is the second level boss, and is not an easy one. Its attack powers are often laughed at, but silence will reign when the armor it has, in shape of a thick hide, deflects your attacks. The only thing that is known to hurt this guy is bombs, and even that is not enough! To actually do some damage, you must trick it into digesting your bombs, so that they will explode on the inside. In other words, killing off this guy is an inside job.
There is a trick to getting it to digest a couple of bombs quickly. Place them in his path so that he will walk over them when they explode. It may take a couple of bombs, and sometimes the bomb will cause him to walk slowly in place, if he does you can run in and use the sword to take him out. It’s a good idea to have maximum bombs when you go in to fight him, in case a few miss.
Later on in the game, Dodongo appears as a regular enemy.
This flesh-eating flower is not only huge, but it also has four hands reaching in different directions. The hands are known to slow it down because of their weight, so its speed will increase as you rid it of the hands. Link can dispose of all four hands with his sword, but the fastest way to send Manhandla to a safe death is by placing a bomb near the middle-body. If you time it right, the bomb will explode right in its center, destroying all four hands at once!
This boss is best dealt with quickly. At first it can fire four energy balls at you. It moves faster after taking damage, but can’t fire as many shots. Bombs and your trusty sword should do well, though if you have a potion it would help too.
The Gleeok is known throughout the land of Hyrule as one of the toughest foes to defeat. This is a large dragon, but what sets it apart from your average middle-age dragon is that it has multiple heads! Your job is to destroy all of Gleeok’s heads, in order to defeat him. What makes this fight difficult, is that fireballs will be shot at Link from many directions. Once you destroy a head, the head will break away from its body and fly around in the air attacking Link. You can’t destroy these heads, so just avoid them as much as you can. If you want to defeat this nightmarish creature, the best way is to master the ways of your sword, and be quick on your feet. The key to winning this battle is to destroy him before the heads get a good shot at Link.
The first Gleeok you meet will have two heads, but you’ll meet two more in the game. The next will have three, and the last will have four. The four headed Gleeok is the boss of level eight and one of the hardest bosses in the game, so it’s best if you’ve found out how to buy potions for healing before getting to the end of level eight.
These creatures are gigantic sea urchins, but they pack quite a punch. Using the recorder you find in the same dungeon, you can weaken it to a point where it can be attacked. Once it hears the music, it will shrivel up and get much smaller. All that extra mass beforehand acts as a barrier against your weapons.
After it shrivels, you can hit it with your sword or bow. It can be hard to hit sometimes because it’s really small compared to other bosses and moves fast, but just keep cool.
“That is one big crab” will most likely be your first impression when you find this queen of the sea, who resides in the labyrinths of Hyrule. Gohma is said to be the mother of Tektites, although you can not dispose of her in the same manner. Her hard shell makes her seem invulnerable, she does have one weakness: her eye! A trained archer will easily take advantage of that, and use his Bow to destroy the creature.
One shot with the bow will defeat this Ghoma, though blue Ghomas found later in the game are tougher. When you reach the room, don’t go all the way in. Exit, equip the bow, reenter and immediatley fire an arrow. Ghoma should be right in front of you with her eye open, and ready to kill. Not too hard for the sixth boss.
Ghoma mostly moves side to side and fires energy balls periodically. Avoid these and attack when her eye is open.
This guy is the the source of all evil which has been roaming Hyrule, hence his title “The King of Evil”. He looks like a large Moblin with a cape, though in the original Zelda game he didn’t have a spear. He has the power of invisibility, and will only appear when he hits you, or you hit him.
The best thing to do is try and stay in one spot, as he’ll circle around Link: above, right, below, left. As soon as you work out where he’s coming from, stab your sword where he will appear next. When you’ve hit him four times, he’ll appear red and stay still briefly. Fire a barrage of silver arrows at him to finish him off. If you’re too slow with the arrows, he’ll disappear and you’ll need to repeat the process. Once he’s history, you can retrieve the Triforce of Power and meet Zelda.
If you don’t have the Magic Sword and Silver Arrows, you won’t be able to beat Ganon. The Magic Sword is found under a tombstone in the cemetery west of level six. The Silver Arrows can be found deep within level nine, check the walkthroughs on this site for directions.
