What is it that makes the Zelda community special? I’m tempted to say “me” but that would only be part of the answer.
It has a lot to do with the Zelda games, of course. Without them, we wouldn’t be here – but what exactly is it about Zelda that makes people create websites devoted to the series, or gather to discuss theories and the latest in Zelda news?
Nathan of ZeldaInformer takes a deeper look into the question in his article, where he explains why he thinks the Zelda community is better and bigger than – for instance – the Mario community.

I agree with nathan. The Zelda community is bigger and better than the Mario community, even though they are both great characters from nintendo games.
The reason I think Zelda has become a more popular game is because of its appeal to a wider variety of people. Zelda has more challenging puzzles and gives more variation to the story for each game. Mario, though fun to play, the game-play doesn't have any substance for a real story -line, only quests that somtimes seem, repedative when going to each level.
Mario might be a fun kids game from ages 7-15, but Zelda starts at kids, from ages 7 and goes up to 35, and easily 40.
Bottom line is, everything gets better with Zelda, where Mario games seem to lack that extra punch for its games. Link has more weapons, and Mario has only a few power-ups. You put the pieces together. =)

I already said why Zelda's better than Mario. Mario is just a bunch of obstacle courses. Zelda has an excellent story, all sorts of different enemies, tools, puzzles. everything that Mario is can be summed up into one word- jump. what was the premise of the first ever Super Mario Bros? jumping on stuff. what was the premise of Super Mario Galaxy? jumping on stuff. actually Super Mario Sunshine is probably My favorite Mario game, simply because it's actually DIFFERENT than ALL THE OTHER MARIO GAMES IN EXISTENCE (and no, i'm not counting the sports games or the party games or the racing games)
who exactly is this Nathan person. He's produced some pretty philosophical articles, and a lot of them by now. what is he a Zelda priest or something?

sorry, I meant to say, "what is up with him" not "who is he" I, I know who he is.

The Zelda community isn't better or even special, it's about the same as every other community. To those who are bashing the mario community, play the Mario RPG games (Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Paper Mario 2, Mario&Luigi:Superstar Saga, Mario&Luigi: Partners in Time, Mario&Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story) There is plenty of story there, don't bash randomly it NEVER works. Another thing is you should check out some other communities, the Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life communities are also pretty cool, they try and figure out the same things the Zelda community has been trying to figure out. Most communities of games are like this one. But compared to the ones he mentioned in the article, yes, it is special, and an awesome community
P.S. Don't start bashing the games or communities I mentioned, you will look like a complete dumbass because you probably never played the games, researched them, or even tried to.
P.P.S. ChainofTermina should never post again (jk)

Hey Edacon. I have ACTUALLY played those games, Half-Life, and Team Fortress. Nothing but Shooting. Not to say they are bad games, ther're good. But we're talking about Zelda VS. Mario here. Mario games are always the same. Even if you play those Mario RPG games, which I've played them all, you'll know that it's nothing but RUNNING and JUMPING. Whether the game swicthes the angels around, or you have to get extra things in levels, it's still the same game. And STORY-LINE? Come on Buddy, we know that Bowser taking away the princess in the beginning of every game is not a story-line, only the objection. I like Mario as well, and other games, but again, its the personal preference. Instead of thinking it's "Bashing" a game, why don't you think about "opinions" and stop crying whenever someone has a different point of view. Zelda has been around a lot longer than every 3-D game out there. At least Zelda is appreciated than thinking some jaded 3-D shooter is better than the classics. Go change your underpants, diaper wearing, thumb sucking basket case.

from what it sounds like, you haven't played them at all, and it isn't ZeldaVsMario, its Zelda Community VS othe communities. Also, in all of the Mario RPGs, bowser only kidnapped the princess in ONE OF THEM. And I was comparing the COMMUNITIES of the games, not the games themselves, let me quote myself. "Another thing is you should check out some other COMMUNITIES, the Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life COMMUNITIES are also pretty cool
, they try and figure out the same things the Zelda COMMUNITY has been trying to figure out." you sir are blind as a bat.
And you have actually said once again that mario is just saving the princess and jumping, well guess what. So is Zelda, there are very few exceptions to this. Most games are like that, so you guys are just being stupid, grow up and stop pretending to know everything. It seems like the only place and you've ever played is Zelda, open up, accept that other games DO exist, and that this isn't the only community.

Well, i would say that I am opened up to playing a lot of different games. I just don't want to be a community whore, I stick to what I love. Maybe your good at "jumping" from one place to antoher, but that's not how I roll.
And you're right, i will correct myself, it wasn't about Zelda Vs. Mario, thats just where the tangent went to.
Its kinda hard to KNOW everything about games, considering when you have other aspirations in life. My life is not filled with GAMES, when I can fill it, I'd rather stick to what I'd like, and if you like Half-life or other stuff, more props to you. This is a ZELDA Community, and if you don't like it, then go talk to someone else who agrees with you on another Community site.
Otherwise, I have a lot more people who love zelda and will agree with me. So that's all I care about. I love Zelda, proud of it. Get used to it.

I love Zelda too, I just don't like it when people go all fanboyish and start mindlessly bashing stuff. The article was great, but it didn't compare enough imo. I never said I hate Zelda, in fact the zelda games are at the top of my list for best games.

Well, I guess we reached a misunderstanding. But, in my opinion, its fun to have a favorite game series, that's what makes it special, especially when it comes to a community. the gaming communities will go back and forth saying there love of this game is the better than the love of other games. I agree on that fact, it is pretty interesting to see how people are different on other community sites. I guess, depending on the style of the game, you'll sometimes see how different communities can be towards eachother. Gaming polotics. It can get ugly, but not all the time. lol
