The recent Nintendo Power revealed some new information on Spirit Tracks. They may be small tidbits, but they are information nonetheless.
Someone on NeoGAF (forum member zigg) received his Nintendo Power in the mail and decided to post his idea of what the best information from the magazine were. His list:
* You’ll first control Zelda while sneaking her out of the castle. She follows you normally, but you can tell her to stay put by tapping an icon, then tapping another to tell her to catch up when the coast is clear. You can also draw a path for her to follow, then distract the guards as she passes by by talking to them or throwing rocks at them.
* The “big, bad, super-duper evil” that needs Zelda’s body is “apparently not Ganon.”
* Anjean “claims to have known Zelda’s ancestors.” (Wink, wink.)
* The tower doesn’t require you to revisit floors, but you can to get access to secrets you may have missed. I’m hoping they use this to lock away unobtainable treasure until you’ve acquired more items, much like various floors in the Temple of the Ocean King did.)
* The Phantoms, “who are supposed to protect the tower from evil, have gone haywire”.
* Zelda can’t inhabit a Phantom until you (a) get the three Tears of Light in an area, and (b) strike it from behind with your sword.
* As the game advances, Zelda will gain the ability to transfer her spirit from one Phantom to another.
* You aren’t completely free to choose your route with the train; but you will have to watch the upper screen map to see where enemy trains are headed, and switch off to other tracks to avoid collisions.
* There are four dungeons that connect to the Tower of Spirits. The first one, “Forest Temple,” has no Phantoms, but Zelda is still with you in a Navi-like fashion.
* Getting to the Forest Temple et al. involves visiting various villages and other locations which in turn gains you access to new areas.
* There are six slots for items in Link’s inventory.
* “Odds and ends” treasures like wooden hearts and dragon scales tie into sidequests.
* The Forest Temple’s Master Key that leads to the boss must be carried along a safe route lest you get grabbed by Wallmasters. Apparently you will have to note this route on your map at some point?
If I am reading the web right, this is in issue #249 that was more than likely sent to subscribers first and will see newsstands soon. It is also interesting to note that issue #248 had a Nintendo Power Ultimate Zelda List which ranked the games that have been released. Their list:
- #13. Zelda II (NES, 1988)
- #12 Four Swords Adventures (GameCube, 2004)
- #11 Majora’s Mask (N64, 2000)
- #10/9 Oracle of Ages/Seasons (Game Boy, 2001)
- #8 Minish Cap (GBA, 2004)
- #7 Phantom Hourglass (DS, 2007)
- #6 Wind Waker (GameCube, 2003)
- #5 Link’s Awakening (Game Boy, 1993)
- #4 Twilight Princess (Wii, 2006)
- #3 Legend of Zelda (NES, 1987)
- #2 A Link to the Past (SNES, 1992)
- #1 Ocarina of Time (N64, 1998)
Do you agree with that list? We would like to hear your comments. That is all I have, though.

Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland was released only in Japan and Europe, never making it to the USA due to lackluster sales. Surprisingly, the game was well-received among those who did play and review the game. You play as Tingle, a 35-year-old (and single) man lost in the world. Guided by the mysterious figure Uncle Rupee, Tingle fills a mystical spring with money and gain access to the wonderful Rupeeland, a paradise where nobody has to work. Along the way, hire body guards to protect Tingle – but from what? All may not be as it seems in Tingle’s quest for monetary gain, and Rupeeland just might not be so rosy after all...
What? How did they get issue #249 already? I JUST got #248 a few days ago….
two words: The Delorian
Figures.
well, if we find out that this stuff is not in the next issue (which it has been hyped it will) we will let you know.
MM needs to be higher than that.. A lot higher.
agree!
Doubly Agree!
My one issue is that this isn't the first time Nintendo Power has released a "best of the best" Zelda games list. If I'm not mistaken there was one done before the release of Twilight Princess, or shortly there after if I'm not mistaken. I think it was done before TP's release though as one of their hype up Zelda articles.
Nothing has changed really in terms of game order except they slotted in Twilight Princess high up on the list.
It's annoying to see Minish Cap put above Majora's Mask… especially since Majora's Mask has certainly come into it's own even more so since 2006 as people realize it's one of the more original Zelda titles.
Overall I was really just bothered how the top 5 slots are taken up by the most hyped Zelda's, 3 of which are built on the same mechanic of having two versions of the same world (Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess).
TRIPLE AGREE!
Okay, for one, Twilight Princess was in no way better than MM, and neither is PH. Well… here's what I believe the list should look like…
* #13. Zelda II (NES, 1988)
* #12 Four Swords Adventures (GameCube, 2004)
* #11 Phantom Hourglass (DS, 2007)
* #10 Link’s Awakening (Game Boy, 1993)
* #9 Twilight Princess (Wii, 2006)
* #8 Minish Cap (GBA, 2004)
* #7 Legend of Zelda (NES, 1987)
* #6/5 Oracle of Ages/Seasons (Game Boy, 2001)
* #4 Majora’s Mask (N64, 2000)
* #3 Wind Waker (GameCube, 2003)
* #2 A Link to the Past (SNES, 1992)
* #1 Ocarina of Time (N64, 1998)
Perhaps they listed them based on sales?
I know this sounds stupid, but I think Ocarina of Time should be a little lower…. maybe switch places with #2…….
Yeah, so does TP! I have it for Wii! My friend has MM (I played it) , so I agree with you!
i think the oracle games should have been higher, but thats just b/c they were the first ones i played
Most of the info we already know. But thanks for the list anyway.
The list is TOTALLY off! I think wind waker should have been higher up!
Why is Four Swords Adventures so low on the list?
For that matter, why isn't Minish Cap, like, #5?
I don't have a full list…But my top 4-5 or so would look more like this.
1. A Link to the Past
2. Ocarina of Time
3. Wind Waker
4. Twilight Princess
5. Majora's Mask
Majora's Mask needs to be 1#
That's a little extreme, I would say.
No. It really belongs there.
No, Majora's Mask needs #2. TP needs to be #1! Wind Waked #3! OoT #4!
I was wondering if this would appear here. I got 248 2 or three weeks ago week and was thinking "wonder if I should tell ZU that this is here" so yeah, I already knew all this stuff. they also have things like "best version of Zelda", "best version of Gannon", "best Weapon", "best item', stuff like that.
Ahem…
…
…
GANNON BANNED!
Pretty interesting facts.
And, since I haven't played most of the 2D Zeldas, I can't say much about the list. I do think, however, that Zelda II should not be in last place, and should definitely be ahead of Zelda I. Too bad so many people don't realize Zelda II's greatness.
I think there's almost more 3D Zelda games now then 2D ones…
Legend of Zelda
Adventure of Link
Link to the Past
Link's Awakening
Oracle of Ages
Oracle of Seasons
Four Sword Adventure
Minish Cap
Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask
Wind Waker
Twilight Princess
Phantom Hourglass
Spirit Tracks
Once Zelda Wii is released it will be 8, 2D Zelda's to 7, 3D Zelda's… these are original games also remember that. Not remakes or compilations or alternate editions (Master Quest gets rolled in with OoT). Also when Zelda Wii is released, there will have been more 3D console Zeldas then there has been 2D console Zeldas. Just random facts.
#11 Majora’s Mask (N64, 2000) w00t ?!
NO
#3 Legend of Zelda (NES, 1987) w00t ?!
NO
conclusion Hmm
#3 Majora’s Mask (N64, 2000)
#11 Legend of Zelda (NES, 1987)
Yeah that's right
I think TWW sould be at least ahed of LA.
If this tower is anything like the temple of the ocean king was in PH, I m going to save my money and wait for Golden sun.
* The tower doesn’t require you to revisit floors, but you can to get access to secrets you may have missed. I’m hoping they use this to lock away unobtainable treasure until you’ve acquired more items, much like various floors in the Temple of the Ocean King did.)
I am feeling good about this. It makes me feel like they aren't going to make you go through the same 50 floors over and over again and redo the puzzles over and over again. It is quite annoying. They had a good idea by making it so you had to have new items to get further in, but doing it over again was annoying.
i hope theres a ghost train like the ghost ship also does that mean there is only 6 items?
MM #1
OT #2
Thats what I think.
What they dount count the original four swords? And the oracles are two separete games not one! I cant stand it when they count them as one game! And four swords is an entry in the series like it or not there would be no FSA or MC without it! And even though the oracles connect with each other for the real ending one still had to happen before the other making them two separate games! also this list is terrible I mean in my eyes there is no bad zelda game but I mean MM at #11 they simply have no sense of what makes a great game and the rest of the list is pretty dumb too.
Psh, Ocarina of Time… Yeah, it was great, and MM was awesome too, but I'll say that Windwaker needs to be king. But then again, that's my opinion, which I know many people disagree with.
wind waker shoulda been in the top 5 i say. it was my first zelda game so maybe thats why. but still, it needs at least a bit mor credit, dont you think?
