The NIWA is a new network that Zelda Wiki has become a part of. Essentially, the network exists to support Independent Nintendo Wiki’s, aka those wiki’s not affiliated and restricted by corporate means. To break it down, it’s pretty much a unified effort against Wikia’s hold on the Nintendo Wiki realm. Zelda Wiki has teamed up with Bulbapedia and Super Mario Wiki to form the three founding members. The NIWA is now live and features a forum where you can find out more information about the project.

I don't understand the point of this…
It's just a page that links to the three wikis.
Anyone can make a page with a link to three other websites.
What makes this so special?

It's an alliance. It will benefit the wiki community more. Also any word on if the Metroid Wiki is going to team up?

The alliance involves interwiki linking, collaboration projects, and the creation of many new independently hosted Nintendo Franchise wikis.
