The Legend of Zelda series is well known for its diverse set of fonts and typefaces, not the least of which include its logo font (called “Triforce”) and its various styles of Hylian language. Below are all of the fonts related to Zelda and Nintendo that we could find. While many may look familiar to you, you may discover several fonts you’ve only noticed in passing while playing a Zelda game.

All of the fonts below are listed in alphabetical order. To install the fonts on Windows, download them and drag them to your Fonts folder (C:\Windows\Fonts). On Mac OS X, double click the font file and then press “Install Font”.

AmericanUncD

AmericanUncD is a font used minimally in The Wind Waker‘s logo – in fact, it’s only used for the word “the.” Since it’s such a beautiful font, we’ve put it up – but if you’re more interested in the real Wind Waker logo font, scroll down and look for “Sherwood.”

Ancient Hylian

The Wind Waker features a more stylized Hylian text that may be more desirable in print applications than its older brother. For those who want a higher quality Hylian font, The Wind Waker delivers – Nintendo reimagined its Hylian 64 font (shown below) in the form of “Ancient Hylian.” The font, like the other Hylian fonts before it, is based on Japanese and not English, so you’ll have to learn how to write Japanese if you want to get serious with this font.

Charlemagne

Charlemagne is probably the most inconspicuous of fonts used in the The Legend of Zelda logo. Although you’ve probably never thought about it, you can catch Charlemagne in use in the “The Legend of” part of the logo, just above the “Zelda” name we know and love.

Gamecuben

Gamecuben is a recreation of the font used to create the GameCube logo. It’s quite faithful to the original GameCube font, though not perfect, and can be used to supply the angular, exciting look of the CameCube brand.

Gerudo’s Typography

Long overlooked by most fans, the Gerudo’s Typography was seldom noticed. It only appeared in Ocarina of Time within the Spirit Temple (on the door and the snake statues, and in the boss room). Thankfully Hyrule Historia provided a chart, unraveling this mystery. Zelda Universe forum member Sarinilli then turned it into a font to be enjoyed by all.

Hylian 64

Hylian 64 became famous as the “Ocarina of Time Hylian” font, and was the first example of written Hylian created by Nintendo. At the time, Nintendo was thinking more of its Japanese market than its American one, and so the font itself is based on the Japanese language. You can see how the font translates to Japanese below.

Hylian Symbols

The Hylian Symbols font has been used across the web as an easy way to display and manipulate various recognizable symbols from the Zelda series. There are nineteen different symbols included in the font, not the least of which includes the Triforce, the Zora symbol, the Sheikah symbol, and the Royal Crest of Hyrule.

Return of Ganon

Return of Ganon is the font used throughout A Link to the Past for dialogue, menu items, etc. It’s most recognizable for its tall, skinny look that differentiates it from the pixel fonts used in the Game Boy titles, which are more squat and short.

SariF Hylian

At first glance, this font looks to be the same as Hylian 64 (shown above). However, the characters are actually completely different, even if they share the same hard-edged glyph style. This font is created by Sarinilli, who is using this to create a fan-made Hylian language for the people of Ocarina of Time. Unlike Hylian 64, which is Japanese-based, this alphabet consists of 26 unique singular and syllable letters (which can also be used for writing in English), numbers, and standard punctuation, so it’s much easier to type out your desired message.

Sherwood

Sherwood is a typeface that might have passed by you unnoticed – it is, in face, the same font used in the subtitle for The Wind Waker‘s logo. Don’t believe us? Have a look for yourself.

SS Ancient Hylian

SSAncientHylian is the font that can be seen in Skyward Sword, representing the earliest known version of Hylian. Fans had tried to crack the code, but were stumped as it seemed some of the letters were missing. Nintendo clearly intended for this typography to remain unsolved because in Hyrule Historia they mention that this lettering is “too ancient to translate.” However, they underestimated Zelda Universe forum member Sarinilli who not only cracked it but turned it into a font. She discovered that there was a sign in the Lanayru Province which showed the full alphabet from A to Z, revealing that the reason for the difficulty was that Nintendo reused three of the symbols to represent various letters.

TP Hylian – GCN

This is the same Hylian text you’ll find if you play the GameCube version of Twilight Princess. It follows the English alphabet (not Japanese like earlier Hylian texts), and its symbols look noticeably like Latin characters. Unlike its Wii companion, TP Hylian – GCN is very readable on its own.

TP Hylian – Wii

This font is the same as its GCN variant, but has been flipped horizontally. The Wii version of Twilight Princess was flipped horizontally to offset the strange fact that Link would have to be right-handed for the controls to work properly. The Hylian text, of course, was no exception to this rule. TP Hylian – Wii is an English-based font.

Triforce

Perhaps the most well-known font of all, Triforce is commonly known as the logo font for The Legend of Zelda series. If you’ve ever played any Zelda game – or ever seen the logo for a Legend of Zelda game – then you’ve seen the Triforce font. Triforce is notorious for its overuse in representing anything and everything Zelda-related. Needless to say, it has cemented its place as the single most important Zelda font to have in your repertoire.

Zelda DX TT BRK

You may recognize this font from several of the Zelda titles – that’s because Zelda DX TT BRK is the same pixel font used for dialogue in most of the earlier handheld Zelda games such as Link’s Awakening, Oracle of Seasons, and Oracle of Ages.
