As most of you know, we have a ZU Facebook page, in which we do such things as ask members what the next poll should be, and random other Zelda-related stuff. Well, over the last couple of days we’ve been experimenting with announcing our newsposts on the page, and it’s been working out well so far. It’s not intrusive, since it just appears on your list of latest friend updates, and it’s bringing in a lot more comments than before from people who prefer commenting on Facebook.

Play-Asia.com - Buy Video Games for Consoles and PC - From Japan, Korea and other Regions

I’ve given Zelda Universe’s RSS icon a spitshine, as well as fixed up our entire messy RSS system (so that the podcast is prepared for the future as well). However, I’m sure a bunch of you might not know what RSS is or what it’s used for. In short, an RSS feed (or simply “feed”) is a file that allows you to use other programs to access our news posts – so you don’t even have to come to ZU if all you want is our updates.

Interested? Read on, ZUer, read on.

After much debate (read: none at all), ZU finally has an official Facebook page, as well as a soon to be often-updated Twitter account. The Twitter account will tweet out the latest Zelda news from ZU, as well as do anything else we feel like it should do. The Facebook page is just the portal to ZU on Facebook.

So what are you waiting for? Fan us, follow us – we’ll be keeping these pages and accounts up-to-date and shiny. You can find us at the two links below (links are also in the sidebar under the RSS feeds). Click, follow, and enjoy!

ZU’s old comments system was getting rusty, so I went on a hunt for a more customizable and interactive comments system. The old one has been completely nuked and replaced by IntenseDebate, a comments system actually owned by the same guys who make Wordpress, the software that powers Zelda Universe. IntenseDebate has a ton more features than that old pile of crap we used to use. Just to highlight a few features:

  • OpenID Support (Yeah!)
  • Gravatar Support (coming soon to the forums as well, a universal avatar)
  • Threaded Comments
  • Comment Rating
  • Subscribing to Comments

I think I can say without bias that the Zelda Universe community stands out as one of the biggest and the most thriving Zelda communities out there. Our forums over the years have been home to many of the most intriguing and groundbreaking pieces of Zelda theorizing and discussion that the internet has to offer, and our member base, though large, has formed strong bonds, some members even deciding to marry each other!

But unfortunately, I also must admit that the main site half of ZU has not quite maintained the high standard that makes our community so famous. This ends now.

That’s right, folks – due to a gracious gift from ZU forum member dark-hero, we are now able to provide you with an incredibly nice, very high-quality rendition of the Phantom Hourglass Soundtrack. It’s up for download right now, and consists of 32 tracks straight from the game (with very nice fadeouts, might I add). If your clicking muscles are up for it, you can grab the soundtrack right now. Enjoy!

For those of you who are members of one of the three clans (Nayru, Farore and Din) on our forums, the Clan Arena has started up its inter-clan competitions again, the first up being a Graphics Competition, so if you’re skilled in that area be sure to sign up and bring glory to your clan!

If writing is your thing rather than graphics, the November Writing Contest has also just begun, and doesn’t require you to be in a clan.

In light of the November 4th US General Election, Zelda Universe is going to hold a vote of its own. On November 4th, one very important question will be answered – will Cody become a webmaster, will it be the feared Power Shot, or will the Jason Administration continue its lonely reign? YOU will decide.

More will be revealed as the date draws closer! The discusson thread is here!

Since we now have content on the main site for spinoff games and games in which Link has cameo appearances, such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Link’s Crossbow Training, and Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland, we’ve created a new board in the Zelda section of the forums for discussing such games.

Enjoy.

(UPDATE) After some tinkering, Jason has put a “Similar News” feature onto all newsposts, so that you can find news similar to what you were just reading faster if you’re interested in reading more of ZU’s news. This will probably get prettier as time goes by.

We now have a new affiliate – the Civilization Fanatics Center, or CivFanatics for short. They cover the Civilization series of games by Sid Meier, originally PC games but now starting to appear on consoles.

I’ve used the site a lot myself, as there are veteran players there with guides on different aspects of the game. One section of the site relevant to even those who do not play the series is the Sun Tzu’s Art of War page, featuring lessons from the 2500 year old book some like to call the “Tactician’s Bible”.

If you wish for your site to join ZU’s affiliates, just fill out our contact form, and you can link to us from other sites with banners from here.
