In 1989, Nintendo published a book based on the original Legend of Zelda game, titled The Legend of Zelda: Molblin’s Magic Spear. Well, a homebrew DS port has been made of it featuring music and narration.

Sounds like a good way to introduce the newer generation to Zelda, especially on long trips. Another version featuring the words instead of narration was also created, which you can view here.

Play-Asia.com - Buy Video Games for Consoles and PC - From Japan, Korea and other Regions

The Detroit branch of Fox News recently ran a segment named Hall of Shame about some interesting local stories. Sounds normal enough, until you reach about 0:56 in the clip and hear the unmistakable sounds of music from the Ocarina of Time Soundtrack.

I figured that it’s been far too long that we didn’t offer some sort of music from the original Legend of Zelda for NES, so I have posted ten tracks from that very game in the soundtracks section. They’re up right now for you to download: Go check it out!

While you’re at it, don’t forget to take a look at all of the other soundtracks we’ve got on the site. Happy downloading!

It’s been a while since we’ve added some new tunes to our soundtrack section, hasn’t it? Well then, it’s about time we announced the immediate availability of a new soundtrack, entitled Zelda: The Music. The album is a Japan-exclusive combination of music from all sorts of Zelda games, ranging from the very first Legend of Zelda up to The Wind Waker and Four Swords Adventures. The soundtrack was generously donated to ZU by Shaelyn, who also translated all the track names for us from Japanese into English. In addition, scans of the entire booklet have been made available, since those were also given to us!

You can download the new soundtrack in ZU’s Zelda Soundtracks section. Alternatively, you can click the album art in the upper left corner of this post to go straight to the new OST. Happy downloading!

Play-Asia.com - Buy Video Games for Consoles and PC - From Japan, Korea and other Regions

Put on your nerd caps for this one – a growing trend around the internet right now is to play video game music through magical lightning makers (or “Tesla Coils” for you smart alecs), so it was only a matter of time before our beloved Legend of Zelda theme song got caught up in the mix, and playing with SexyBack in the background no less. The whole display is actually pretty impressive, so hit the break for the full video.

That’s right, folks – due to a gracious gift from ZU forum member dark-hero, we are now able to provide you with an incredibly nice, very high-quality rendition of the Phantom Hourglass Soundtrack. It’s up for download right now, and consists of 32 tracks straight from the game (with very nice fadeouts, might I add). If your clicking muscles are up for it, you can grab the soundtrack right now. Enjoy!

In an effort to boost music among children, Nintendo is partnering with The National Association for Music Education to bring Wii Music to classrooms across America.

546472Yes, it is true. Nintendo is actually partnering with TNAME to get kids more interested in learning about music. They will be bringing Wii Music into 51 cities, their intent is not to teach kids exactly how to play music, but to get them interested and engaging them with some key educational concepts.

Retrospective Remembrance: The Ocarina of Time

10th Anniversary Special Extravaganza
By Power Shot

Link decides to reveal a surprising retro look for the decade celebration.

Link decides to reveal a surprising retro look for the decade celebration.

So I’ve been asked to do this now. I’ll be writing this in a completely different format from my usual reviews, partially because of the significance of the game I’m being asked to review, and partially because I only have two days to get this out. In case you couldn’t tell, November 21st is the tenth anniversary of the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Regarded as one of the finest games ever designed, it has sold 7.6 million copies of its original N64 release, and has spawned almost half a dozen re-releases. It was also the first game to ever receive a perfect score from Famitsu, which in itself is regarded as the most respected video game reviewing magazine available. Yes, even I liked this game as a child, and I still do as an adult, so it’s incredibly difficult for me to say anything negative about this game. So, instead of all of that, we’re going to take a look at this juggernaut of gaming and see exactly what made it tick back then, what makes us remember it now, and how it came to be classified as one of the greatest, if not the greatest games ever made.

Incidentally, this remembrance will contain more spoilers than a review of the new Saw film. But if you’re wary of spoilers of this game, then you clearly have no idea what I’m talking about, so give this review to someone who does.

Out of the gate, Wii Music, hasn’t been so hot. 66,000 thousand copies have been sold thus far. When compared to the sales of other casual success story games, such as Wii Fit (I know that most of you readers are gamers, but you can’t deny the fact that it is selling well) has sold 487,000 copies.

One would think Nintendo may be worried (or you gamers pray for it because maybe they will step away from this casual persona), but you would be incorrect. Hit the jump to find out why.

When you hear merchandise, most times it can be custom made items from the game just yearning to burn a hole in your wallet. This time is not the case! The St. Louis Ocarina Store, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the release of OoT are having a sale on Zelda Themed Ocarinas!

Recently it has occurred to me that I haven’t been playing my Nintendo Wii as frequently as my nagging brain keeps telling me to. While there are reasons for this (food, sleep, plotting to overthrow the site) I just cannot bring myself to pick up my controller and beat up computers in Brawl anymore. There’s always a show on to divert me from playing on my white box of wonder. And I think I know why.

Is it true or is it fiction? Recent rumors are surging through the internet about a new Zelda game which will be announced at E3 2008. The presently titled Project Deluge or Valley of the Flood is rumored to be in the works from Nintendo in a recently released interview between Eiji Aonuma and a mysterious individual calling himself “Kyle.” The alleged interview, which originated at IGN’s forums, has not been confirmed to be legitimate but is raising interesting questions about the future of the Zelda series because of the new features in the game.
