I think I can say without bias that the Zelda Universe community stands out as one of the biggest and the most thriving Zelda communities out there. Our forums over the years have been home to many of the most intriguing and groundbreaking pieces of Zelda theorizing and discussion that the internet has to offer, and our member base, though large, has formed strong bonds, some members even deciding to marry each other!

But unfortunately, I also must admit that the main site half of ZU has not quite maintained the high standard that makes our community so famous. This ends now.

A long time has passed since the DSi was released in Japan (while us mortals are still waiting for it) and so far no big-name downloadable content has been offered. But Famitsu has revealed that Sega will release a Phantasy Star game for the console some time this month.

Yes, there is another group that will be playing Zelda for a charity. The group is called The Returners, and they are going to attempt to play all thirteen Zelda games in under 72 hours and will be streaming it live. The charity they are raising money for is the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

About a week before the marathon, they will open up donation so that people can either go to the website to click on a direct link to the charity or by using a Chipln widget that directly donates to the charity. The donation window will be open during the marathon till about a week after the marathon.

This marathon will take place at 5:00pm CST on March 20th to 5:00pm CST March 23rd. During the marathon they will be interactive with the viewers and answering questions as well as doing various skits live online while they take donations. They hope to give out prizes to their top donors, but they are currently  unsure if they will be able to do so.

They hope to reach their $5,ooo goal with our support.

More information about this can be found at their website.

That’s right, folks – due to a gracious gift from ZU forum member dark-hero, we are now able to provide you with an incredibly nice, very high-quality rendition of the Phantom Hourglass Soundtrack. It’s up for download right now, and consists of 32 tracks straight from the game (with very nice fadeouts, might I add). If your clicking muscles are up for it, you can grab the soundtrack right now. Enjoy!

Increasingly, I see people asking for a greater variety of items in the Future Zelda section, and every time, I have to ask myself: why? Why would you want more items?

Well, there is another gaming marathon that will be going on, and it’s not just Zelda. Magic Stork are going to be the guys that are attempting this marathon, and they say it will only take them 72 hours or less.

They got the idea from the Four48 and MarioMarathon teams, and are going to be streaming it live.

The Magic Stork members said that it will probably be around June, somewhere around the 19th. It’s a team based effort and they will have about five people playing.

For awhile now the mysterious animated clock on a site owned by Marvelous Entertainment, well known for the popular Harvest Moon series, has been “harassing” the Zelda community for quite some time.  Most viewers have noticed the undeniable famous symbol of our beloved series, the Triforce. Nintendo’s UK office has revealed the release dates of two Wii-makes; Gamecube games with Wii-mote compatibility.

Pikmin and Mario Power Tennis will release in the UK February 6 and March 6, respectively. Other than the added Wii-mote functions, the games feature minor upgrades. Pikmin will feature a new and better save system while Mario Power Tennis will have more camera options and a new split-screen mode.

While a lot of people are indeed delighted by this, some say that Nintendo could – and certainly should – have put some more effort into upgrading the games, like adding extra characters, costumes or other bonus material. As always, head over to the forums to make your voice heard.

The clock with the Triforce pieces.

The clock with the Triforce pieces.

As Zelda fans, we often discuss, debate about the series and so on. As fans we can become very excited over news, whether it be a new game annoucement or something such as competitions and the like. In this case, people becoming excited over a possible new game is very much true. On January 14th, 2008, fellow ZU member TourianTourist had discovered a countdown page for a new game on Marvelous Entertainment’s website. As everyone has probably known by now, it depicts a triangle-shaped clock floating above the countdown. The hands on this clock did not point to numbers, but rather pieces of what appears to be the Triforce. A triangle shaped clock, Triforce pieces instead of numbers… the first thing to pop into your mind would probably be a new Zelda title being announced.

In IGN’s most recent Nintendo Voice Chat Podcast, the podcast talked about a game that found its way around friend codes. It is supposed to be a “Major Online Title” being released some time this year.

According to IGN, it is a game that has already been announced. Joystiq has confirmed that it is not The Conduit. What in the world could it be? EA, in the past, has already released games that do not rely on Nintendo’s special wi-fi connection to play online – but this is looking to be slightly sifferent.

I don’t think it really matters what game it is, what are the chances that Nintendo lets this slide? If they do, I will definitely be excited, because it may mean the end of the codes all together. What game do you think IGN could be talking about?

US congressman Joe Baca, a representative for the Democrats, has proposed a legislation that would see videogames carry a health warning label.

If the Videogames Health Labeling Act of 2009, co-sponsored by Frank R. Wolf were to pass all T and M rated games would have a label that would say something like: ‘Warning: Excessive exposure to violent videogames and other violent media has been linked to aggressive behavior.’

“The video game industry has a responsibility to parents, families, and to consumers – to inform them of the potentially damaging content that is often found in their products,” said Baca.

“They have repeatedly failed to live up to this responsibility. Meanwhile research continues to show a proven link between playing violent games and increased aggression in young people. American families deserve to know the truth about these potentially dangerous products.”
