Nathan, our good buddy over at arch-rival site ZeldaInformer, has posted a detailed article reiterating everything we’ve learned so far about Nintendo’s upcoming Zelda game for Wii. If you need a good refresher about what’s coming to the Zelda world in the future, check out his article. Think of it like a TV show episode that does nothing but recap the whole season.

Some of you may of heard, but for those that haven’t there is a new game in development that looks so much like a Zelda title it’s creating a lot of buzz. 3D Dot Game Heroes is that game, and there are those out there that feel it is breaking all the rules. It looks like Zelda, it feels like Zelda, and worst of all it plays like Zelda.

Mark Methenitis of Joystiq takes a closer look at this “inspiration” and makes a call himself on the infringement issue.

Gamespot is currently running a competition in which gamers vote to decide the greatest video game hero of all time, and, of course, Link has made it to the final four.

“We’re really big Zelda fans. It’s a masterpiece.” – EA producer Nelson Wong

EA are creating a game for the DS that they say is heavily inspired by Zelda, titled Tsumuji. Like Zelda, Tsumuji is an adventure-puzzle game starring a young boy in a cel-shaded style reminiscent of Phantom Hourglass, who is also controlled via the DS stylus in the same way.

There’s a catch, though – the game also includes stealth elements, because its main character is a ninja.

In 1989, Nintendo published a book based on the original Legend of Zelda game, titled The Legend of Zelda: Molblin’s Magic Spear. Well, a homebrew DS port has been made of it featuring music and narration.

Sounds like a good way to introduce the newer generation to Zelda, especially on long trips. Another version featuring the words instead of narration was also created, which you can view here.

If you played Oracle of Seasons or Oracle of Ages, you should remember the unique rings system that it had, which provided Link with various different abilities and power-ups. Well, Ben of ZeldaInformer thinks that these should be brought back for more Zelda games. You can read the article here.

It seems with Spirit Tracks so close to being released that sometimes we seem to forget the game is even coming out. Maybe it has to do with the disappointment in getting another handheld installment so soon after the previous while we wait even longer to even get a trailer of Zelda Wii. Maybe we just don’t like Phantom Hourglass, and thus assume we wont like Spirit Tracks. Or, maybe we just don’t play games on the Nintendo DS that much. Whatever the case may be it isn’t about to stop Spirit Tracks from bringing in awards.

Spirit Tracks won the “best of show” for the Nintendo DS at Gamescom 2009, beating out other titles such as Scribblenauts and Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story. This is according to our friends over at IGN. Loathe it or hotly anticipate it, it appears that Spirit Tracks is a very solid title soon to be added to the Nintendo DS’s library.

I was talking Zelda with some friends the other day when I came across someone with a curious pet peeve – he felt that Link’s name should not be changed or it would break the flow of the game during dialogue, and that people who changed the names were “casuals”.

Obviously, most people are less extreme and less focused on roleplay, but it’s true that preferences vary wildly between players. What do you think?

Does it feel more natural to you to keep the default name, or substitute in a name of your own? Does it even matter to you, or do you just insert a word that spices up the dialogue and makes you laugh?

tingleshirtEver felt like you needed more Tingle in your life? Well, Japanese clothing company King of Games has released a Tingle t-shirt based on his newest game, Tingle’s Balloon Trip of Love.

Unfortunately, it comes at a high price. Excluding shipping, the shirt costs 4800 Yen, or about $52 US. It’s a nice design, but for that kind of price I’d rather just ship the new game itself over.

lon3The Legend of Neil, a live-action parody of the Zelda series about a man named Neil literally sucked into the game of Zelda, has today launched a new episode, the third episode of season two.

In this very special episode, Neil must defeat the boss of Level 2 while Ganon, with the help of his advisor Wizrobe, schemes to stop him. Meanwhile, Fairy deals with her entrapment in a bottle, and Zelda awaits her rescue.

This may sound like just your average Legend of Neil episode, but the difference is this – it is all in the form of song.

The History of Zelda Combat

a part of The Missing Link series of articles

Article By Demo

Combat has been the bread and butter of every Legend of Zelda game since their humble beginnings in 1986. The gameplay of the series has been, and always will be, centered around action-filled encounters between Link and his adversaries. Although Link’s adventures may also include puzzle-solving from time to time, from a gameplay point of view combat always takes a front seat, and has evolved with each new installment to the series. The intention behind this article is to analyze and explore these combat mechanics, and to realize how they have changed over time.
