A long time has passed since the DSi was released in Japan (while us mortals are still waiting for it) and so far no big-name downloadable content has been offered. But Famitsu has revealed that Sega will release a Phantasy Star game for the console some time this month.

Well, there is another gaming marathon that will be going on, and it’s not just Zelda. Magic Stork are going to be the guys that are attempting this marathon, and they say it will only take them 72 hours or less.

They got the idea from the Four48 and MarioMarathon teams, and are going to be streaming it live.

The Magic Stork members said that it will probably be around June, somewhere around the 19th. It’s a team based effort and they will have about five people playing.

The Nintendo Wii is on it’s way to replacing the PlayStation 2 as the most successful console of all time ever, according to analyst firm Venture Beat. The console is predicted to have sold 154 million Wii’s globally by 2014, says Digital Spy, that would put it ahead of the 140 million units the PlayStation 2 has managed.

According to Venture Beat the Wii is 10 percent ahead of the PS2 in comparative life-time terms, having sold 17.5 million units during the first 26 months on sale in the US, compared to 15.9 million units for Sony’s console.

More good news from Nintendo.

Are you surprised? You shouldn’t. Since Wii Sports comes bundled with every console, it’s bound to sell like crazy. The now second best selling game of all time – previous champion – was Super Mario Brothers for the NES.

The All-mighty ReggieAccording to the all-mighty Reggie, CEO of Nintendo of America, Nintendo does indeed listen to what the fans say. Common complaints by fans about the Nintendo Wii include: lack of hard drive, minimal online play, and awkward friend codes. Reggie explains Nintendo’s views on the matter.

“We listen to our fans all the time. Nintendo fans are some of the most passionate in the world, and believe me, they make their opinions heard. We’re not claiming our way of doing things is better or worse than anyone else – it’s just different. We listen very closely to what people have to say, both pro and con, and keep those feelings in mind as we plan ahead.”

So, translation: The Wii is most likely not going to be vastly improved upon. But we can still hope for the next console.

Nintendo’s DSi sells half a million units in a single month.

Retrospective Remembrance: The Ocarina of Time

10th Anniversary Special Extravaganza
By Power Shot

Link decides to reveal a surprising retro look for the decade celebration.

Link decides to reveal a surprising retro look for the decade celebration.

So I’ve been asked to do this now. I’ll be writing this in a completely different format from my usual reviews, partially because of the significance of the game I’m being asked to review, and partially because I only have two days to get this out. In case you couldn’t tell, November 21st is the tenth anniversary of the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Regarded as one of the finest games ever designed, it has sold 7.6 million copies of its original N64 release, and has spawned almost half a dozen re-releases. It was also the first game to ever receive a perfect score from Famitsu, which in itself is regarded as the most respected video game reviewing magazine available. Yes, even I liked this game as a child, and I still do as an adult, so it’s incredibly difficult for me to say anything negative about this game. So, instead of all of that, we’re going to take a look at this juggernaut of gaming and see exactly what made it tick back then, what makes us remember it now, and how it came to be classified as one of the greatest, if not the greatest games ever made.

Incidentally, this remembrance will contain more spoilers than a review of the new Saw film. But if you’re wary of spoilers of this game, then you clearly have no idea what I’m talking about, so give this review to someone who does.

According to Gamestop, their stores should have enough Nintendo Wii Gaming systems to last until the first week in December. Now I know you may be thinking, “How the heck can they do that?” It looks like Nintendo is upping production of its famous console, at least that is what Reggie Fils-Aime says. According to him, production per month for the holiday season is going up from 1.6 million last year to 2.4 million this year.

As for those of you who want Wii Fit, this about sums up your situation:

Looks like it will only be in about 3 out of every 10 stores. Good luck trying to find it!

Play-Asia.com - Buy Video Games for Consoles and PC - From Japan, Korea and other Regions

We now have a new affiliate – the Civilization Fanatics Center, or CivFanatics for short. They cover the Civilization series of games by Sid Meier, originally PC games but now starting to appear on consoles.

I’ve used the site a lot myself, as there are veteran players there with guides on different aspects of the game. One section of the site relevant to even those who do not play the series is the Sun Tzu’s Art of War page, featuring lessons from the 2500 year old book some like to call the “Tactician’s Bible”.

If you wish for your site to join ZU’s affiliates, just fill out our contact form, and you can link to us from other sites with banners from here.
