Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s president, has now made known his opinion on Apple’s latest creation known – and he doesn’t like it very much. In keeping with Nintendo’s trend of apprehensiveness regarding emerging technologies, Iwata has dismissed the iPad as a “large iPod touch” that most likely won’t compete with Nintendo’s latest DS unit, the DSi XL.
In addition, Iwata also criticized 3D games – games that utilize 3D technology such as RealD’s 3D glasses and polarized television screens – asking whether or not anyone would be willing to stand in a room wearing 3D glasses in order to play their games, and questioning how that would “look to other people”.
Iwata did confirm that a new handheld was in the works, but his dismissive nature surrounding these emerging technologies suggests – nay, confirms – that neither something like the iPod touch nor 3D gaming is in the pipeline for Nintendo’s next handheld release. Sorry, dreamers!

Satoru Iwata seems like the kind of guy I could become friends with!

Hahahahahahaha, well since when has Apple even BEEN in the gameing industry. People all talk about how Macs are better than any thing Microsoft. well, Macs may be better, but at least Microsoft has this thing whats it called um i don't know oh yay this thing called the XBOX!!! Apple should just stick to computers…..and mps players……and cell phones…..and, you know anything else the make.

… Coming from the wiimote master?

The problem is more what the TV screen would look like to those walking in who aren't wearing glasses

Crap, I'm actually excited for the release of 3D technology! Guess that's 5 more years of waiting.
January 29th, 2010 at 8:02 pm
are there actually game cartridges made for the ipod touch? or are they all downloaded? until there are actual physical games specifically made for the ipod, I don't count it as a game system. and if all games will be only available via download one day and not released in stores, well I hope I'm dead before that happens.

Yay for hypocrisy! Not only does he criticize something as "emerging technology" when the Wii's motion controls put it in the exact same category, but he questions how somebody wearing 3D glasses would look to others, ignoring the fact that most Wii games make you look like an ass while playing them.
January 29th, 2010 at 9:21 pm
hel hawk i don't think that's what he means. The problem is what the tv would look like to other people who weren't wearing the glasses. This kind of 3d technology only works that way. the effects only works under the glasses.
January 29th, 2010 at 10:26 pm
haha, he questions 3D because people will worry how they'll look in the glasses, and yet he'll bck up the Wii which no one can look cool while playing.
January 29th, 2010 at 11:25 pm
Nope, but games are only available via download. Just wondering if you consider that a gaming system
January 29th, 2010 at 11:39 pm
oh….uhanuh i guess. playing games is it's main feature, right? the ipod's main feature is to play music………….at least it used to be.

Apple has crept into the gaming industry with the ipod touch.
… A sneaky move indeed.
January 29th, 2010 at 11:51 pm
The iPod touch has actually been marketed as a gaming device for over a year or so now.

The iPad is a piece of crap for more than one reason.
There's no multitasking. You can't run AIM in the background while you're surfing the internet.
That's a bigger reason to dislike it than anything else.
January 29th, 2010 at 10:40 pm
But the games themselves look normal to people looking at the screen. In a 3D Game, only the player can see it properly.

Ever heard of the PSP go?
January 29th, 2010 at 11:24 pm
that's from Apple?
January 30th, 2010 at 11:10 am
That's the biggest load of bull I have heard in a long time. Why does the distribution of games have anything to do with whether it's a game or not? It's still a game if you just download it. So are the games you can buy in the wii store not games?

Alot of bloggers aren’t very pleased with the new iPad.There was too much hype about it and alot people got turned off.Thing is, I actually see great deal of the cool potential of this gadget. Third-party apps for making music, games, newsprints and magazine and books, tons of good stuff, but IMHO they failed to sell it properly (excluding the books). It feels kinda incomplete

Oh my, seriously, iPad?? Good games are not pure touch-screen. That’s my opinion.
