[fF]-[ZuNo] Son of Majora
Came up with this a while ago, and thought it'd be a good story for ZuNoWriMo... It's a story about Dean, a Hylian Captain who after fighting Ganon's forces finds himself in a vast ocean. Obviously, this novel is taking place right after the flood, and Captain Dean and other survivors are starting a new life on Greatsih Isle.
However, having spent his entire life as a defender of Hyrule, he sees it as his duty to seek out danger and defeat it. The islands of the Great Sea hold much more than what meets the eye and the story starts getting interesting when Captain Dean comes across a certain wooden mask... **** The winds blew across the empty ocean… A few boats and rafts, even planks, carried survivors from the flood. Confused, and scared they searched for a way to survive in this new world. People sailed past an island consisting of a few rocks and a big tree with a hole in it, looking innocent enough. Inside it though, an old man shivered, looking out on the refugees on their rafts, and their boats. The old man looked sick, of sorts. His one eye was significantly bigger than the other one and was also coloured red. The other, blue eye, looked normal and healthy. The man’s hair was gray and torn. He wore nothing but rags. When he stopped looking out on the other people, he turned his attention to a piece of wood he held in his hands. He grabbed an old knife that he supposedly have had since a long time back, and started to carve the piece, ever so energetic. The old man suddenly started laughing. Laughing in an even more sinister way as he kept going, looking at his piece of wood, slowly taking the shape of a mask he once saw. A mask with burning, yellow eyes, foul horns and a soul, hungering for revenge on the world that once imprisoned it… Opening his eyes slowly, Captain Dean begun to regain consciousness. He noticed he had managed to hold on to his raft after all. His left shoulder ached as if it had been hit by a Goron and he couldn’t feel his legs. After he made sure his legs were sill a part of his body and than he actually had some control over them be opened his eyes to the world before him. He saw water, nothing but water. As far as the eye could see, there was water. He looked down at himself. His clothes were somewhat whole. His white outfit was more gray than white, his cape was pretty much torn apart… his sword was lost and his boots also. He crawled to the closest raft edge and looked at his reflection. His hair was still brown, even though it was extremely dirty. His eyes were still blue and his teeth were still white. He had a couple of flesh wounds in his face and when he thought of it, most of his body ached from lots of the same kind of wounds. He looked away from the water, just staring at the raft floor. Then he suddenly noticed something by the other edge of the raft. A hand! Captain Dean made his very best effort to crawl to the edge, his legs still not quite able to carry him, and grab the hand. He grabbed it and pulled up a Hylian soldier. Once he was on board, Captain Dean saw that, yes, it was indeed one of his men. Dean made his best get the water out of the soldier’s lungs. It appeared to be working, after a few moment of pushing and breathing, the soldier woke up. Apparantly he hadn’t been in the water too long. “Captain, I…” the soldier said, looking at his captain with pain, but also happiness in his eyes. “Shhh… don’t speak, soldier. Just rest.” Dean answered him. The soldier fell asleep. Dean figured it wouldn’t really matter, as long as he was breathing. He also noticed the short moment of stress had made the blood flow increase in his body, and he begun to get his feeling back in his legs. The captain thought that maybe it was best to take a rest, he certainly did need it… but at the same time, his gut told him that if he fell asleep, he might not see other survivors as the raft drifted by. Also, he wasn’t sure they were safe at all. Just last night had their underground headquarter been attacked by Ganon’s minions and he had lost many men. And just when they had managed to escape… Captain Dean had a hard time remembering everything. He knew that water started falling from the skies, he remember building a raft and telling his men to stick together. Then there was a huge wave coming and… Dean’s head slowly fell to the bottom of the raft as his thoughts slowly turned into dreams. The Captain and his travelling partner woke up by a sudden noise. They slowly got to their senses and looked around for something that could’ve made the sound, whatever it was, but they still saw nothing but water. Then they heard the same noise once again and this time both of them realised what it was. They looked above them to see a small flock of gulls sailing on the winds. “Gulls, Captain! They might guide us to land” “Yeah… if there even is any. I haven’t seen nothing since…” Dean didn’t have enough energy to even finish his sentence. But then he spoke again “Well, soldier. As your captain I guess it’s my responsibility to make things happen around here. We shall take turns to sleep. He who doesn’t sleep shall use whatever he can to follow the gulls the best way possible way. Is that clear?” “Yes, Captain!” “Good. Then you will start. I must rest some more. See if you can get some loose planks or anything we can use to move faster. I see some over there and I’m sure we’ll pass by plenty. The orders are simple, and you wake me up whenever you feel like you need to sleep or if something else should happen. So start follow the gulls, soldier. Commence!” The soldier started to make sure the raft was heading the same way as the gulls. Captain Dean lay down and closed his eyes. But then he opened them again and raised his head. “Soldier!” “Yes, Captain?” “What’s your name?” “Andross, sir.” “Then I’d like to see Andross taking his armor off. It’s a miracle you survived at all, I don’t understand why you’d push your luck keeping that armor on.” Andross was caught a bit off-guard, but after being silent for a second he replied and started taking his armor off. The day passed. As did the night. The two men begun to realise they wouldn’t survive much longer without water. Well, they had plenty of it all around then but it was too salt to drink. The next morning they were blessed with some rain. Andross was able to collect a little of the rain in his armor, which he had decided not to throw overboard. Another day passed, and on the third day, they were both exhausted. The gulls were still in sight, but they didn’t seem like they knew where to find either. Captain Dean was on the edge of giving up. But then, as if the gods had embraced them, salvation came. The exhausted captain was still asleep, but Andross saw it. “Captain, wake up!” he shouted in excitement. Dean grumbled a little “What’s the matter with you? I told you not to wake me up.” “Look!” Andross pointed to something behind Dean. The Captain turned his head and saw a boat. It wasn’t much of a boat, actually, but certainly more than their puny raft. It even had sails made of old sheets. Captain Dean got on his feet, waving to the people aboard. They waved back and started rowing towards them, pulling down the sails. When Captain Dean and Andross went onboard, they noticed the ship carried quite a few refugees. And to their surprise they found that another troop of Hylian soldiers were onboard as well. Captain Dean collected all the troops to gather some information. They were all part of the Hylian Resistance, and Captain Dean knew a few of them. “Who’s in command here, by the way?” he asked “I am” someone said. Dean looked around and spotted a goron. He looked no different from other gorons, except there was something in his eyes that Dean couldn’t quite figure out what it was, but it made the goron look honest, truthful and pure at heart. The Captain decided to speak. “Well, brother… I thank you for saving my, and the soldier’s life. We are forever grateful.” “No problem, goro. We’re heading towards an island we’ve spotted. There we will start our new lives.” “What? We gotta head back to Hyrule. Our duty is to protect the people!” Catptain Dean seemes angry. The goron looked at him with pity in his eyes. “Brother… Hyrule is gone. Washed away, all of it. Fields, houses, rocks, all gone, goro.” Captain Dean looked shocked. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “The Gods appeared to me in a dream, brother. They told me to build boat fast, and not to tell anyone. They said that the evil Ganondorf had to be stopped, but that it could only be done by destroying the rest of Hyrule… You must have lost many, I am sure, brother. I lost my family when Goron City…” The goron suddenly stopped. His eyes were tear-filled and his hands started shivering. Captain Dean also seemed to be in shock. To break the silence, Andross raised his hand a little. “If I may ask you, sir goron… Are you saying that we, right now are… above Hyrule?” “Yes. The island that we’ve spotted is one of the mountaintops of Hyrule.” “…Captain, do you realise what this means? If Ganon is truly gone, if the Gods flooded Hyrule… we have at least got rid of the evil, we may rebuild our lives the way they once were.” “No, brother” The Goron said. “We shall start a new life, not try to rebuild our old. The Gods told me that once we reach the island, a deity will wait for us there. He’ll show us what to do.” Admiral Dean wasn’t at all pleased with these news. His entire life had surrounded the service of his beloved Hyrule. He couldn’t believe it was gone. But he decided to trust the goron. If there indeed was a deity waiting for the, then maybe this actually was for the good of the world. Hope began to find its way back into his heart as the boat started to set sails for the new island. Their Island. Captain Dean stood on the front of the ship, spotting the island in the distance. The fresh air stroked his hair in a way he had never quite felt before. The ship split waves as it headed forth, sending pieces of foam to the air. Seeing the wind play with the pieces of foam, feeling the wind in his hair, the sounds of the ocean… It made the Captain think that this actually wasn’t the end of the world, but rather the start of a new one. He felt proud as he realised he was one of the pioneers of this time. All his life had he spent serving the kingdom and people of Hyrule. He didn’t know any other way of life. He felt insecure at first, but he realised that now he got to serve something even greater, namely the new world, the survivors, the Gods’ will. He smiled as the island kept coming closer. Suddenly he noticed that the goron had come to his side. He looked at the goron, his eyes shining more than ever as he looked at the horizon. “You feel it to, brother. Don’t you?” the goron asked. “Yes…” “The soldiers have told me about you, Captain Dean. You seem to be quite a strong man. We Gorons cherish strength, I’m sure you’ll do great things on the new island.” “Thank you. I must ask, and apologize… What is you name?” “Hehehe. Well, I have been thinking… Maybe I should give up my old name, it doesn’t quite fit my current position.” “What was your old name then?” “Promise not to tell anyone, goro?” “Yes.” “Well…” The goron whispered in Dean’s ear, as low as he could. Captain Dean started laughing. “Hahahahaha, you gotta be kidding me!” “Sadly, no. And now that you know, you must help me come up with a new name.” Captain Dean thought for a moment, closed his eyes and placed his hand on his chin. “A goron need a strong name. A respectful name, but yet a name symbolises kindness and wisdom. Hmm… how about… Oden? The goron’s shiny eyes looked at Dean, and the captain could actually see that he liked it. “Brother, that is a beautiful name!” “Then so shall you be called from now on, Oden.” “Thank you, brother. You’re good for a goro-hug” “Eh, wait I’m not su…” As Dean tried to say it might not be a good idea, Oden had already placed his arms around him. As Oden hugged him with joy, Dean had to struggle for breath. When Oden finally let go, Dean dropped to the floor. “Oh, you ok, brother?” Oden asked. Dean tried to speak but could just utter a few words in between his gasps. “yeah… I… I’ve just… never… been this close… to dying… Otherwise… I’m all ok.” “Hehehe, you Hylians are funny, goro. You should probably go check on your men, we’ll arrive shortly.” “Of course” Dean managed to say, as he tried to get up on his feet. The sun had begun to set as the ship docked with the island. No one on board really knew anything about boats, so they just let the ship crash right onto shore. Oden was the first to jump overboard, landing in the sand just by the water. The sand was soft, the waves touched his feet as he stood there, looking his island. He walked a few metres away from the water, when the sand met the grass. Oden felt the grass with his hand. “Not quite my style… I had expected a place more… goro” he said to himself. Then he smiled. “But I guess it will do. Ok, Captain! Make sure everyone gets down here safely!” “Yes, sir!” Dean said loud and clear, saluting Oden. He ordered his men to lower a rope to the ground. “Now tie it to the mast and make sure it’s secure!” “Secure as it can be, Captain!” one of the men said, making sure –once again- that the rope was indeed tight. All the refugees, mostly Hylians but also a few other human beings climbed down the rope. Some were kissing the sand, blessing the Gods. Others were smarter and kissed the grass. When everyone had reached the ground, Oden ordered them to go with him and explore the rest of the island. When they seemed about done, Oden suddenly stopped. He raised his hands as he lowered his head and closed his eyes. Everyone fell silent, wondering if something was wrong. “The Gods speak to me. Come!” Oden started walking towards a smaller cliff, facing towars the sunset. At the edge of the cliff, he kneeled. Not knowing quite what was going on, the others decided it was a good idea to follow his example. At first, nothing seemed to happen, but then something arose from behind the cliff. It looked like a really huge fish. It looked very mysterious, its face was barely visible due to the setting sun being right behind it. The people stared at it, amazed and scared. But they didn’t know if it was a bad fish, or a good fish. Andross whispered to Dean. “I think this might be the Fish God Jabu Jabu that was said to reside in Zor…” “Silence!” said the fish in a loud and clear voice. Andross fell silent in an instant, looking down the ground. “I am Jabun. Your protector and friend. I’m here to ensure your survival. There is fish in the sea around here, and you should be able to grow crops as well. There are other islands out there, too. Some of them house other survivors and when you have what you need to survive, I suggest you start searching for the others. Shall you ever need me again, Oden shall take care of your request and them he shall come to this cliff. Is that understood, Oden? “Of course, Great Jabun” “Good. I will now descend to the depths of the ocean. Live in peace” Jabun said as he dove into the ocean. Oden rose to his feet. “I’m sure that we all know what to do now. Sleep, that is. I suggest we do so in the boat. Captain Dean shall make sure his men stands guard in case of any trouble. Back to the ship now, tomorrow we shall decide how to build our village.” The next day Oden started the day by holding a meeting. They had to decide how to run their new island. Oden wanted for everyone to have their say, but most people just agreed with whatever he said, since he had been chosen by the Gods to lead them. He became known as Oden the Great as the days passed by. Everybody pitched in building a sleeping hut. Wise as he was, Oden had packet his ship with food and material. They had to cut down on the size of the sleeping hut though, since they realised they had to come up with a way to make the boat not float away. They found a huge boulder which they placed on the ground and placed some rocks and boards around it to make sure it was steady. Then they simply attached a couple of ropes to it, the ends of the ropes being attached to the boat itself. It was far from a sufficient dock, but it’d have to do. Geatfish Isle was full of trees. They’d have to cut them down and make boards of them if they wanted additional building and some land to grow crops. They had to build fishing huts, a kitchen, a farm or two, a storehouse and last but not least a deposit for water. They didn’t quite have the tools to dig for water, so all the well did at the time was collecting rainwater. As days turned to weeks, weeks to months and months to years, the settlement had grown into a rather impressive village. By launching a few expeditions, Captain Dean and his men had come in contact with other people, trading tools, food and clothes. Dean was as happiest when he set sail towards unknown waters, something which Oden the Great was grateful for. The two had become very good friends, and they oftentimes stayed up late at night, talking about their current plans for the village. But as time passed, Oden noticed that Dean wasn’t quite happy. Sure, he was always eager to explore new waters and he was oftentimes proud of his accomplishments whenever he had discovered something new, especially when finding another island with people. But it still didn’t seem like he was happy. He never did much in the village, except for helping people whenever he could. One night, Oden decided to speak about this with Dean. They were staying up late, discussing a problem they had run into. “Oden, if I can just get a pickaxe when I return to Windfall Island, we could easily get rid of that rock and we’d easily be able to grow more” “But the rock tastes pretty good, I think I can keep eating it up” “You’ll never get done in time for the next sowing season! Look, if it makes you feel better, I’ll make sure they give the pieces of rocks to you, we’ll even sort them out, breakfast, lunch, dinner…” “Hahaha, yeah… ok.” Oden said, feeling that this was the right time to speak to Dean about how he was feeling. “Listen, Dean… There’s something I want to ask you..” “Yes?” “You… don’t seem quite happy here. Is there any problem?” Dean looked down, seemed to be thinking. “Dean, you don’t really have to answer me. I think I know what’s wrong. You miss your old life, the life of being a captain” “Oden, I love this island and everyone here, I really do. But…” “Say no more, brother” Oden said as he turned around, picking up something wrapped in a sheet. He unwrapped it, revealing a light sword. Dean stared at it, it was exactly the kind of sword he had been using in Hyrule. “I found a blacksmith on Windfall Island. While you were busy getting spices and clothes I went to see him. I didn’t have anything to trade with, but turned out he needed someone who could move some stuff… So I got it. For you.” Oden said, handing the sword to Dean. “Do you like it? It’s Hylian Design. Probably not gonna see many more of those…” Captain Dean ran his fingers up the blade. He rose up and grabbed the hilt, trying out some simple swings. “It feels good” he said with a smile on his lips. “I hoped it would. But that’s not all. I also have something else for you” Oden said while leaning back, picking up a piece of white fabric. “This, Dean, is a cape.” “A cape? Why would I need a cape here?” “Well, you’re still wearing your white military outfit. A bit torn, sure. But they’ll go perfectly with this cape. You’ll need it for your future… service.” Oden said. Dean could see that his goron friend was hiding something. “You see, Dean… There has been words of Pirates lately. Rumor has it they live in the far west, coming to small islands, looting and killing… I can’t understand how they’d do that to their fellow brothers but… then again, they’re not gorons. Anyway, I think it would be best for us to be prepared, just in case. And I know that you wouldn’t be happier off than serving our island as the head of our defence.” Dean remained silent for a moment. “I’d… be honored. I’d be… general. General Dean.” “No, you wouldn’t. Since we only have one ship, for now –we plan to make you another one, made for combat at sea- you’d be the captain of that ship. So… you’d still be Captain Dean.” Dean smiled. He felt like crying but his military strictness made him not to. “I’d be honored” “You’ve said that.” “Oh, right… I’m just…” “Happy?” “…Yes.” “Excellent! Be sure to remain that way. Tomorrow, you shall be officially given the position as Captain of our defence. I myself shall dub you… well, knight or whatever it is you humans do. You’ll have to find some recruits though, since a commander needs an army.” “Yeah… that’ll be hard. I think my men are quite comfortable living their lives the way the do now. Most of them are farmers now, you know, and they seem happy about it.” “That young lad Andross, then? He always admired you, he even insisted on following us to Winfall Island last time” “He’s a good man, to be sure.” The two kept talking for another while before they went to sleep. The next day, Oden had decided to hold a little ceremony in Captain Deans honor. As the leader of the island, Oden dubbed him “Knight, or whatever you wish” of Greatfish Isle. After the dubbing, the people had a small party, and a few people actually volunteered as part of the Greatfish Defence Force, as Oden had decided to call it. The people had taken a day off work for this occasion, even though they couldn’t really make any fancy party since the resources were always limited, but everyone really enjoyed themselves. Especially Captain Dean. That was a day he would never forget. The years passed. The island community kept growing, and it didn’t take long before the first child was born on Greatfish Isle. After him came plenty more. The island had begun getting more fish from the ocean thanks to an increased amount of them, probably due to there not being too many predators out there. Captain Dean really liked the children and spent as much time with them as possible. He was oftentimes patrolling the seas, cooperating with a few other islands including Windfall, Outset and the Rito people on Dragon Rost island. Since they had that dragon on their side, they didn’t feel like they needed any protection, but they were able to give them some Bomb flower seeds, which came to be the primary weapons of the islands that needed defending. A few old men from Windfall even begun studying the seeds, so that they could, in time, develop a new kind of bombs, like the ones used in Hyrule but without gunpowder, something that nobody had at the time. Whenever Dean returned home, the kids always came to meet him, begging him to tell them of all the advents he had surely experienced. Dean told them a lot about old Hyrule and how he used to defend it from evil, but that now, there was only the threat of pirates. The kids were never disappointed though and they always appreciated his stories. Dean told them that they would make much better soldiers than his force, since the kids actually listened to him. He was joking, of course. Everyone on the island liked Captain Dean, not only for defending them, but also for being a kind and honest man. As good as Deans life was being a Captain again, his mind oftentimes looked back on old Hyrule. He knew it was gone, but he still couldn’t take his mind off it. Every so often on his journeys, he took a new route, hopefully stumbling across a new island. He would stop the ship, and explore the island. He knew he was searching for something, but he didn’t know what. Then one day, when he was patrolling the western islands, he found a pirate wreckage on a small island. He had been there before, but now that the wreckage was there, they had to take a closer look. The ship had sustained some damage, probably due to hitting a reef or something. There were no trace of pirates on the island, and nothing was found on the wreckage except for a few knives and some food. Dean ordered his men to take everything onboard their own ship. As he looked around the island, he noticed a hill had been torn apart. He didn’t know why, but assumed it was due to a storm. As he looked closer, he saw that there was an opening in the hill. Dean kept digging, his heart beat faster than in a long time. He found himself truly excited. He summoned his men and they all helped digging. Piece by piece, rock by rock, they came closer to opening a hole big enough to enter. Dean stood up, brushed away some gravel from his arms and then entered. His men stood outside, wondering why they haven’t been issued any orders. Dens head popped up in the opening. “Why are you all standing here for? Andross, come with me. The rest of you, get back to the ship and remain there. “Yes, sir!” the soldiers said. Andross entered the cave. He had some trouble getting through since he was still wearing both his wooden shield and his spear. The cave was going pretty steep downwards. They ground was covered in gravel and dry earth, but seemed adequate for walking. They wouldn’t need a rope or anything, at least not for now. Dean and Andross studied what little they could of the cave. It was pretty dry, and being this close to the outside, roots covered most of the roof. Further down though, it looked pretty rocky. Andross hit the cave wall with his spear to see if it was stabile. Not much happened, except some earth came off the nearby area and ended up on Andross’ arm. “I don’t like this, captain. My white uniform is getting all dirty” he dared to say. “They’re far from uniforms, Andross. They’re just regular white clothes, like mine. And I knew I shouldn’t have gotten you white, but Oden the Great insisted that my men and I should wear matching “uniforms”. Did anyone bring a torch, by the way? *sigh* that’s exactly what’s wrong with the military, you don’t pay them to think.” “Well, actually, sir, you don’t pay us at a…” “Ssshh!” Dean said, putting his index finger on his lips. “I thought I heard something down there.” They both listened and it seemed like something was actually down there. It sounded like something was walking around. Dean started whispering. “Go and get two torches. I want you back here in thirty seconds.” “Yes, sir” Andross whispered back. He left his shield and spear and ran away. 28 seconds later he came back with two torches, both lit. As he entered the cave he saw Captain Dean standing a bit further away in the cave with his sword drawn. “Captain?” Andross whispered. “Andross!” Dean whispered back “get here immediately! I think it’s getting closer” The soldier hurried to the captain’s side, handing him a torch. After picking up shield and spear, they started walking downwards, slow but steady. As they kept walking, the noise drew closer. Dean and Andross tried too spot something from the light of their torches, but all they could see was stone, a few stalactites and more gravel from above. Some sort of moss also seemed to grow on some places. Dean felt the moss, but it wasn’t quite like anything he had felt before. Suddenly, the noise stopped. Captain Dean told Andross to stay perfectly quiet. He slowly kept walking, noticing how the gravel and earth he walked on kept falling downwards as he kept on. Maybe that’s what alerted… whatever was down there. The cave became thinner a bit further down. Dean kept walking, looking carefully around him and ready with the sword. Andross followed him as quietly as possible, hiding behind his shield. Then they came to a dead end. Dean felt the wall in front of him. A little different from before, but the same moss was growing on it. He turned to Andross. “I don’t understand” he whispered. “Where did the noise come from?” He noticed Andross’ eyes suddenly focused on the wall behind him. Dean turned around but quickly stepped back. The wall had opened an eye, as big as a boulder. It looked straight at Dean as he realised he had walked into a cave monster. “Oh…****” “I still don’t see any problem, why don’t you just get that pig for her? She’ll be happy, you won’t have to listen to her complaints and besides, it’ll make you look better” The soldiers at the ship were discussing relationship problems, something the new ones have come to notice was a pretty common thing for a soldier. “I just don’t see any reason to…” The soldier stopped talking and looked towards the cave, seeing Captain Dean jumping through the opening. He fell to the ground, but soon got up and kept running towards them screaming something as Andross also appeared through the cave running as fast as Dean. The soldiers were just about to ask what the commotion was all about, when the hill which the cave started in seemingly just blew up. Up from the ground crept a huge monster with several huge arms, lashing all over the place. The creature only had one eye, which had Captain Dean’s sword stuck in it. The monster halted for a second, blinded by the sunlight. One of its arms flung around at random, hitting Deans legs. He fell down on the grass and before he could get up, the monsters arm had found its way back to him, holding him still on the ground. It tried to locate its prey, but had a hard time adapting to the light. The men were terrified, most of them had never seen such a monster before. Andross ran up to them. “It’s Gohma! We gotta get out of here!” he yelled. “B-b-but the Captain!?” Andross looked back. He saw the Monster slowly approaching Dean. The few experienced soldiers threw their spears at Gohma, distracting it for a moment. Andross told the new troops to get more weapons from the ship. He dropped his shield, lifted his spear and took aim. As the other men retreated, having Gohma’s full attention, he ran towards the stream then threw the spear with all his might. Ghoma couldn’t see the projectile approaching him and as the spear pierced it’s eye it stumbled backwards, stumbling across the edge of the cave and tripped. The massive beast fell halfway through the, now expanded, cave opening. Blinded by light, rage, a sword and a spear, the beast seemed to go on rampage. It crawled back up form the hole and towards the company as Andross helped Captain Dean up. Gohma rushed towards them, but miscalculated their positions. It ran into some trees, giving Dean and Andross time to get back to the ship. When they reached it, the men had made it ready to set sail. “Thank God you’re ok, captain. Let’s leave!” one of the men said with a mix of relief and panic in his voice. “No, soldier. We must kill it” Dean said as he entered the ship. “What? But it’s so…” “You shut the hell up and do as you’re told. We can’t let thing live, it’s a danger to everyone who comes here. You two!” he said pointing at two of his men. “Get the bomb supply out here. Now everyone grab your spears and you shields, and let’s nail this bastard. He’s still got my sword.” Dean and the rest entered the island again. Finding Gohma wasn’t really a challenge. The rampaging beast was smashing the Pirate wreckage into pieces. Captain Dean told his men to try to lure him back to the cave. Should he trip there again, they’d have a golden opportunity to throw bombs at it. “Ok, men remember that regardless of how the plan goes, try to hit him in the eye with your spears. I know they’re not quite javelins but for the sake of the Gods, make sure to hit it anyway.” Dean commanded, as he went to prepare the bombs. The men approached Gohma from behind. The didn’t quite know how to begin the attack. “Uhm, mister monster...?” one of the soldiers said quietly. “You idiot!” Andross said “It’s just raging, he doesn’t hear you. Throw something at it!” The soldier dug around his equipment and found a knife. He aimed as good as he could then threw it on Gohma’s head. The monster turned around, screaming. The soldiers raised their shields and aimed for the eye. Gohma had started to see a bit better now though, and it charged the intruders. The soldiers didn’t expect any rapid attacks since it moved so slowly back when it first emerged. The impact was hard. Shield broke, spears were thrown and soldiers retreating. One of them was struck in the face by a fierce blow, breaking the poor man’s neck. Another got trapped under one of the arms only to be swallowed whole by Gohma. As Captain Dean saw this he plucked two bomb fruits from the boxes of earth in which they were planted and ran towards the remaining soldiers. Most of them had already thrown their spears, two of them which had hit the beast. Dean stepped forward and threw the first bomb fruit. It landed near one of Gohma’s feet. The explosion was strong enough to blow part a part of the leg off. As Gohma went down, screaming in pain, the captain approached it, walking steadily with an expression of cold heartedness on his face. He stopped before he got within reach of the arms and threw the other bomb fruit towards the eye. One explosion later, Gohma fell silent and stopped moving. Dean walked to it’s eye, placed one foot against the eye for support and drew his sword of it. Eye juices covered his clothes as he did this, but he didn’t care. He went back to his men. The ones who had served him before were happy, congratulating Dean. “That’s our Captain Dean, just like we remember him” one of them said. The newer men weren’t quite as happy. They were shocked, terrified. Also they couldn’t help but looking at their two fallen comrades. As Dean noticed this, he remembered his first battle. He was just eleven when it happened. Monsters attacked his house. His father and some other soldiers tried to defend it. He wasn’t supposed to fight, but one of the soldiers had dropped a knife, and Dean felt like he had to help. He remember fighting a bokoblin, stabbing him in the gut. He remembered feeling great when the monster finally retreated, but also the horror that followed. He remembered his seeing his Uncle dying from a wound sustained by a Moblin spear, bodies crushed, blood everywhere… “Soldiers.” He said. Help our poor newcomers aboard the ship again. They shouldn’t stay here. Anyone who is wounded must get some medical treatment immediately. Then we’ll go home. I don’t think we’re able to keep patrolling the area in this condition.” Before he went back to the ship, he walked up to Gohma. He looked at the dead beast, and actually felt sorry for it. In battle, he had always been able to put his feelings aside but now he couldn’t help it. Then he grabbed a knife and squatted, reaching for the creature’s mouth. Then he carefully cut one of its teeth out. Once done, he took the bleeding tooth in his hand and went back. Words so far: 6298
