NaNoWriMo 07

Yup, it's here. I realize we're a little late getting around to this. But yeah. Talk about all things NaNoWriMo related here.

I am well into my first thousand words. I keep stopping and rewriting stuff though...

Yay for having 2,214 words!

'Course they're probably not worth much.

I'm terribly behind with only about 2,000 rushed and uninspired words. A day or two ago I had all but decided to give up (still having no muse and no will to continue) but seeing all of you with your high word-counts has activated some prideful defiance in me. I am still unsure of whether or not to dump my current story and go in an entirely new direction that will hopefully inspire me or press onwards with my current idea and hope my muse finds me.

Any advice on inspiration or my writing path?

^ I'd say you're going somewhere when prideful defiance becomes one of your inspirations, xD It really is a helpful, motivating sentiment.

On the subject of inspiration, I find it useful to write without an expectation of a muse finding me, to write just for pleasure of putting words on paper and forming a coherent idea, nevermind if it's inspired or not.

I've discovered that finding that idea (or ideas) that I can thoroughly envision - that I can imagine myself exploring - works best when deciding what to write and what not to write, what to dump and what to keep. Does your current idea interest you? Does it motivate you to write it out, to make it tangible? Does the new idea you're considering present itself clearly to you, in such a way you can see yourself writing it?

^ My current story does interest me mostly because I haven't played out the plot in my head. I have written a few things that sparked interest in my own heart but have nowhere to take them, no new characters to introduce and nothing to really catch a reader's attention. I can envision certain aspects of my novel altogether quite clearly whiile other things are a messy blur to me. For instance, I have chosen a large, real city as the backdrop for my novel although I don't know the roads et cetera very well. When travel comes into my novel I find myself being vague and quite frankly, boring.

I actually have no new idea to speak of, and I suppose that a beginning this late would mean I have some reckless, rushed (well, more rushed xD) writing to do for the next twenty days. There is something about this time limit that instead of inspring adrenaline, evokes annoyance, anxiety and frustration. I generally enjoy my writing even without a muse but this frantic rush means every second I fruitlessly think of a plot is a second of writing wasted.

In regards to your idea of writing for fun, I think I've answered it in that last paragraph but I'm having a wonderfully enjoyable ramble here. I know exactly what you're talking about because I get that exact same feeling concocting wonderfully confusing sentences in French and German. They may be basic when translated into English but it is just a rush to do something well that many others can't. My NaNoWriMo is lacking this rush and fun that it desperately needs to continue.

I can't believe the workload they start to put out right when NaNoWriMo comes out. These two weeks will be so bad and I'm already 7000 words behind. I'm getting my homework done early so during Study Hall (designated HW time), I can write in my "this is crucial" mode without interruption.

I'm a day behind, but catching up today (granted, I'm writing at double speed, so a day behind for me is like, five days ahead for you). The story is getting good now... it's starting to lead into the big picture... and I just can't wait to see what that look like!

50,384 words.

I plan to keep writing until November concludes - my novel isn't finished, but the plot is lending itself to neither logic nor common sense, so if I'm to salvage it, I'll have to rewrite it. After November's passed, it shall be time to unsheathe the red pen!

Happy NaNoWriMo, everybody, =)
