A Bitter Reality (NaNoWriMo)

My NaNoWriMo! ^^ I came up with the plot like 5 minutes before writing this... But I actually plan to follow through with this! Prologue time...

Prologue: The Suppressive Rule of a Doomed King

Cruelty was a word that Scarlett knew nothing of. Shrouded from the reality of the world, she’d never experienced anything such as disappointment or sorrow. Her first experience with these feelings would leave her empty and emotionless. The way the young teenager was stricken by this realization left a great void in her life. One that would actually make a great story… And so this tale of adventures concerning finding the truth behind human nature unfolds…

Her footsteps rang boomed through the hallowed halls of the castle Scarlett called home. Her bright crimson hair flowed down her back in a wavy mess. Despite its ragged appearance, it had a royal air to it. The girl’s shrill voice rang through the air as she ran, waving her pale arms back and forth. “Ready or not, here I come!”

What seemed to be occurring was apparent, a game was taking place. A game that Scarlett seemed to be taking very childishly. Even in her seventeen years of age, Scarlett had the liberty to act whichever way she wanted. If acting like a two year old was her wish, so be it.

Elsewhere, being forced to go along with Scarlett’s demented game, Chloe sat, her bright green lily pads of eyes glowing in her dark hiding place. “I wish someone would just fire me…” The maid started to play with her thick curly hair, wondering what was taking her young master so long. “Psst… Gorman… Do you think she ditched us to go get some more candy again?”

“What else? Otherwise she’d have found us by now… Considering we’re being monitored by a freaking camera,” the blue eyed boy pointed to the rotating electronic device that was recording their each and every moment. He sighed and patted his straight shoulder length azure blue hair and letting his fragile arms drop to his sides.

“Don’t get too downhearted… I’m sure she was just thirsty… Yeah, that’s it. She was thirsty,” Chloe smiled at Gorman brightly, her perfect teeth shone brilliantly. “Don’tcha think?”

“You know what? I wish that Scarlett would think. Her mindlessness is just killing this place…”

“Yeah… I guess that’s true. The castle has been a bit more depressing than usual…” The eighteen year old began to trail off, her head hanging low.

“Not the castle, you idiot! I meant more along the lines of… Oh, say… The entire country!” Gorman began to flutter his arms about in a grand matter, as though expressing his anguish.

“Oh… Well, that’s true too. Just the other day, the King sent his twenty best men on an ‘extremely important assignment’… Scarlett wanted some sand from the Deserts of Allirea…” Chloe rested her head on her bent knees, her eyes full of sadness for their country and for the people of it.

The blue haired fifteen year old gave his senior a reassuring pat on the back and stood up. “We’d best be getting to her… She might throw another fit again.”

“Right.”

“Well, well, well… What have we here… My precious wants something and you’re not delivering to the best of your ability? How dare you. Take this away immediately and bring me something more fitting!” The commanding tone of the royal’s voice sent the soldiers scurrying in fear.

“Daddyyyy! They were retarded! They can’t even bring me a simple plate of cookies! Biscuits! What kind of a snack is a biscuit?” Scarlett’s whining struck her father as the gentle sobs of a suffering child as his response indicated.

“Don’t worry darling… Daddy will make it all better,” He gave her a playful wink, “Just you wait and see.”

“Alrighty!” the spoiled child exclaimed gleefully.

Suddenly, the doors to the kitchen slammed open, making Scarlett jump. “We were hiding for two freaking hours!” Gorman’s voice yelled out and he stormed up to the king and his young master.

“Yes… Um… What he said…” Chloe agreed nervously behind him, wishing to not get in trouble.

“What?! You dare defy what my child asks of you!? She wants you to be hiding! Go hid if you know what is good for you!”

“No.” Came the serious response from the sickly looking teen.

“That’s it! I can’t take it with this country’s stubbornness!” The kind screamed, making Gorman’s fragile frame tremble.

“That’s it daddy! Teach ‘em good!” Scarlett began to hop with excitement.

But before he could administer his method of punishment, the doors were thrown open once again. “Your time has come.”

“Huh?” Everyone in the room spoke in synchrony.

About fifty soldiers had filed into the room, making it quite “cozy” to say the least. The one that stood directly in front of them spoke, seemingly the one in charge, “We’ve grown tired of your abuse of power. We’ve lost countless lives of men just to satisfy the cravings of your daughter. No more shall we follow orders. You’ve taken your last breath…”

“Never. My daughter means the world to me, and if non of you comprehend that… Then taste blade!” The king charged at the men, sword held high and shield at the ready.

“Fire!” As the word escaped the leader’s mouth, about fifteen arrows were released, all aiming at the neck of their king. It’s needless to say that at least a few met their mark, knocking down their pathetic excuse of a ruler.

“DADDY!” Scarlett screamed as she saw her dad fall to the ground, dead.

“Take the girl. She’s to be thrown out of the country,” the man spoke cruelly and with no feeling of sympathy. He pointed at Gorman and Chloe and said, “Take them too. They’ve seen too much.”

“Too much of what?!” They asked in unison.

“Too much of the makings of a new foundation. A new country…” the coldhearted man’s eyes brimmed with hopes of a new life. As he marveled in his own delusions of grandeur, the teenagers were dragged away, along with their pain of a master, who was weeping and sobbing over seeing the death of the only man who’d loved her.

“Why!? WHY!?” Her yells had become too much for the soldiers to bear and they gagged her, hands twitching with the joy of revenge.

“Don’t worry wittle princess… The desert is merciful to those who can take care of themselves… Though that may just be a big problem for you, now won’t it?” Their taunts grew faint as the trio of teens were being hurled into a world they’d been sheltered from, but was very real.
