Re: Wii U will not have a used game ban

If anything, I could see Microsoft or Sony making it possible for developers to use it on their games but not making it mandatory. I'm sure if you wanted you could still make a game you developed be like that even on the Wii U.

Me buying used CoD doesn't hurt Nintendo, Microsoft, or Sony at all. So of course they won't care if I do or not. All they'd do is say that "if a developer wants to, they can."

Awesome, because Nintendo games rarely go down in price. I usually have to buy the used.

Re: Wii U will not have a used game ban

I don't buy used games all that often, but I think that it's important that gamers have this option. Having a used game ban defeats the purpose of buying physical media, that it can gain collector's value and you can sell it down the line. If I can't trade or sell my game disks because they are tied to my own console, I'd rather not have the physical property at all and just get it digitally.

Re: Wii U will not have a used game ban

I doubt Sony or Microsoft will get rid of used games, those are just rumors with absolutely no substantiation from the companies themselves. In any case Nintendo at least this gen took multiple years to lower the prices on their games, while pretty much any Microsoft or Sony game can be had at 20$ within 6 months of release new.

Re: Wii U will not have a used game ban

It is great news for those who like to share games with people, as well as those who buy and sell used games. Sony and Microsoft are shooting themselves to the foot for not allowing this. Many newer PC games, especially those that use online-only DRM such as Steam, Origin, and Battle.net, also shoot themselves to the foot for getting rid of the ability to have used games. Well then, the Wii U will be my main platform for newer games.

But it's pretty much impossible to have used games for online-only games. I mean, why would they give YOU money for a copy of the code THEY made? Charging you for their time and effort makes sense, but really there's no reasonable way to have used games on computer.

And they really haven't shot themselves in the foot in my opinion. Millions of people download and play on Steam.

Steam could want to have used games, but how can they possibly do that? Besides their generally cheaper than store copies, so yeah.

That and I don't think anyone other than computer games don't allow used games.

Re: Wii U will not have a used game ban

I kinda expected this. The WiiU will be a family/core console so, just like in the past, people will give games to their friends.

I'm not surprised to hear this.

I never viewed Nintendo as being that sort of company.
