The first, for any Metroid fan, is very exciting news; it is being rumored that the next Metroid game is already in development for the Wii U. Apparently Epic Studios, known for games such as Gears of War, has teamed up with Nintendo to bring us the newest installment of the Metroid series; furthermore, it will run on their Unreal Engine 3.Will we see Samus embark on her newest journey by the end of the year? Perhaps, but until then E3 will surely reveal the details on not only this rumor but also the next.
This is pretty cool. I know a lot of fans (myself not included) were angered by Other M, so a new entry in the series is probably needed to revive interest. I'm curious as to what Epic Studios will actually be doing with the game, too. Hopefully it'll be good.

As far as the controller goes... I don't think Nintendo will be incorporating Android technology into it. While it is certainly possible, I just don't think Nintendo would do that. Who knows, though? It may happen.

Re: Just a few more Wii U rumors: Metroid and Android

If Nintendo does use Android Technology, it'd be interesting to see. But I hardly see it as necessary. While the Android OS is vastly superior compared to many touch screen Operating Systems, there's no reason for Nintendo to not simply design their own.

Considering Google's bit of trouble with the Android OS being claimed as breaking copyright by using Java, Nintendo would be even more unlikely to use it now than before. That could have repercussions for Nintendo if Google is ruled as guilty.

As for the Metroid, sounds cool. I'm interested.

I've never actually played metroid. I'm pretty interested in what they'll do with android technology, but do we even know if the wii u controller has a touchscreen?

^I think it has been confirmed several times that the Wii U will be a touch screen controller, and I think there are even videos of people playing with a pen on the screen.

The Zelda HD thing also utilizes touch screen technology with the menu, I think.

Thanks. But why would Nintendo ever use a different company's product? They barely let any developers make products for them.

If Nintendo had never done a touch screen thing before, I would say just so they could learn how to do so better. But the DS touch screen systems worked rather well.

Of course, the Wii U will have a different one.

I could see it as being cheaper that way, maybe. Or just a matter of convenience. But I'm really not sure.

I'm all for a new Metroid.

I really want it to be the start of a new Prime Trilogy.

Just wanted to say that Java is an open-specification and is free for use by any developer for either commercial or private. The only limitation is that the user's implementation must stick strictly to the Java specification, any addition of unauthorized classes is prohibited. See here.

Google would not get in trouble for simple implementing Java on android devices. Chances are they implemented special classes for dealing with the android's 'view' ui and were caught by Oracle.

Re: Just a few more Wii U rumors: Metroid and Android

You know how the cost of a Wii remote is pretty much up there in the high range?

Well... can you imagine the price of a Wii U tablet on it's own?

Re: Just a few more Wii U rumors: Metroid and Android

Yeah, that price is insane >.>

If you subtracted the price of the Wii-mote and the nunchuk, the Wii only costs $50. You pay more for a controller than the Wii itself.

Well the jury in the case between Google and Oracle has basically said that Google is guilty of breaking copyright, but there may be a mistrial. See right here. I'm not expert on Oracle's stuff, but if Google did that Nintendo is probably not thrilled with the idea of working with them still if they ever were.

Of course if they already were it may be too late.

I suppose we'll have to see.

Yep, it was just like I said. They expanded the Java API which is in violation of the license. Oracle's evidently not joking when they say you stick to the specification.

Didn't help none for Google to try and get away with it by renaming it something else.

Re: Just a few more Wii U rumors: Metroid and Android

If this is Epic Studios we are talking about, then surely they have the potential to make an excellent Metroid game that will bring in a killer financial reaping for Nintendo as well as regain fan trust following the Other M blunder (really guys? It was still good...).

Seeing as how this is a rumor, however, it should be treated with a grain of salt. Nevertheless with this on the heels of a Star Fox being developed by Retro Studios for Wii U rumor, I can't help but become more excited for E3 2012.
