I love the fact Nintendo hasn't forgotten about the 8-bit games and does not ignore them in the overall timeline.

The last part does not give 100% facts. It uses words like "thought" and "may"

If I'm right, and I have a feeling that the logic I'm about to throw down is, they could be simply talking about the characters' thoughts, which counts as 100% fact as official information, and can be left open to interpretation without any theorizing blocks.
