[ZU Meetup Extravaganza] England! UK'ers let's rock it like we always do!

We the UK'ers have always had the most success with these things, so, alongside all the ther meetups kicking off at the same time, let's make ours stand out.

Where will it be? xD


Our Top Contenders this time round from initial prodding around are:

London - not a surprise choice, the capital and a bustling centre with lots to do. Not too far for the southeners to go and likewise for the northeners. Unless they live in ... North north conditions.

Birmingham - The great plus points for this one is that its central to pretty much everywhere and reasonable to get to from around the UK. It being during summer also gives us fantastic opportunities for hanging out and having a barbecue etc if we wish (rather than cold and rainy like last time ;-; )


Manchester - some say that, TECHnically, Manchester is more central than Brum. Haven't really been much there, before, so, what do you guys all think?

Have you figured time zones into your plan?

I think the Manchester's much better for all us Northeners -- Tirry, Anna, Rheks, Chukapi and I -- as well as any those long-excluded Scottish people. It's the location we chose for the failed summer 2008 meetup -- and is generally agreed upon.

But London's much better for us southerners

How south are you, Kits?

and how long would it take, by train for you to get to Manchester?

Perhaps we can make an awesome compromise. I'm not entirely sure if I'll be able to attend yet, but I'll have a hand in making sure every Uk'er gets a chance to meet up with fellow ZU'ers. Yes, Manchester is better for us Northies, and I definitely see how London is better for those Southies.

Edit: Ahh, also there was no sort of indication of when this would be. It'd have to suit people's schedules. I'm guessing this'd be summer hoidays?

Edit Edit: I retract my previous statement on the grounds that it was stupid and I didn't read the topic properly. xD A day, hmm.

How about somewhere like York? That's a nice big place. It'll be easy to get to, too.

I'm thinking maybe a meetup during an anime con would be a good idea? Theres one in London in May and another in the midlands in August i think.

The London Expo would certainly be a great place for a meetup! =D

Alrighty, quick question. Do any of you know who's actually leading your meetup? Cause Asia disappeared a while ago.

(And a note about dates: If this is still the Extravaganza, there are supposedly going to be other meet-ups. And the plan was to have them all on the same day. So, don't get anything too set in stone, assuming we're still trying to organize a world-wide thing.)

It would probably be sensible if (one of) the person(s) leading the meetup was local to the city where we meet, though I suppose cafes and stuff are easy to find.

Yeah thats what I was thinking ^^ I don't know how close the majority of people here live to London, but if we could arrange it, i'm sure it would be fun

I'm not local to london but I am only 50 miles away and visit quite a lot...

Can we expect the rest of the nations involved to conform to England's expo? I doubt it'll fall on this day, though it would be cool.

I am all for London, but the problem of it being very south can bite us in the arse.

I have to say, Birmingham seems like a very good place to hold the UK section of this meet up. The last meet up took place in Birmingham, and it took off without a hitch. Brum is slap-bang in the middle of the UK so no one can really claim it is unfair that they have to travel so far (Hell, I wen't and I live on the south coast)

Besides, it's an all round nice place to visit, you got the Bullring shopping centre, a massive waterstones, a train station we can all meet in, and pleanty of starbucks coffee shops dotted about the place.


I vote Birmingham!


As for the time of meetup, don't you think the summer would be nice? I mean, lets face it, more people would wan't to go out in the summer due to the warm and sunny weather (hopefully) August seems close, but I reckon if we really put effort into this we can have it all organized by then.


Any thoughts?

EDIT (for glory) : We can't keep banging heads over the location, London Expo does sound good, but it is either too close a date or too far a date. Besides, there is no garauntee that everyone can be free on that date. Convienent if they where though!

I suggest we cast a vote, open a poll or whatever and decide that way.
