Official ZU Meetups Map

This thread is here for the purpose of those who are interested in planning a meetup in their area to give a general sense of what ZU'rs live around them who are willing to attend a meetup of some sort.



The idea for this came around when I was talking with Tiroth earlier today about meetups that have occurred in the US lately. He was pretty shocked when I admitted no such thing has happened in a long time, other than Asci's current thread planning for a trip in Ohio.

When I went on to tell him about another recent thread of someone trying to convince people living in North America in general to go hike up to Canada for a meetup I mentioned how most people (like myself) would make the mistake of assuming people automatically live around my area and would want to attend a meetup. Continuing with the conversation I thought to myself "Huh, wouldn't it be helpful for people to plan a meetup if they knew what ZU'rs are in their area? Better yet, maybe the US would have their first good official meetup before the UK got on their fourth or something ". After suggesting this to Tiroth, he agreed that it would be useful for not only the poor lost people here in America, but people in different countries as well.

NOTE: THIS THREAD IS NOT ME TRYING TO HOLD A MEETUP. I am currently at this time not going to host a meetup in my area. Not only would my mother have a fit about me meeting people from the interwebz, but with the number of people who are even close to me it would end up just being DD123, myself, and BBD if he wasn't 'retired' from the site.


tl;dr version --A lot of the people here on ZU who live in America don't have a clue when it comes to planning things out well. So here is a map that will hopefully help those trying to plan a meetup in deciding where to hold it based on the ZU population. Be sure to add your name so we know if you're still alive one day if this thread somehow survives longer than a month. Doesn't that sound like fun?

Well, there'd be a fourth too, depending on how willing/able I'd be to make an 8-hour drive northward.

Anyway, I added myself to the map.

I've been thinking about organizing some sort of ZU meetup for Southeast USA in Atlanta, but...I never really have yet, mainly because it's not entirely feasible for my schedule just yet. I am keeping an eye open, though.

Just a hint, but aim more for durring the summer months. Then you won't have the college kids complaining they can't go because they're stuck on campus with mount homework beneath them, and the other school kiddies won't have that much junk going on in their lives. And you can use the summer months as an added bonus addition to the meetup by mentioning how nice and warm it gets down there

Excellent thinking, and I agree with everything you said except the last sentence. For it would be more accurate to say that it will be so blindingly hot and suffocatingly humid that we will immediately grow tired of each other's sweaty, sticky company and vow never to return to ZU ever again.

That's when you stick with just saying it'll be humidly warm, and great beach weather. Now you don't have to mention you all won't be going to the beach, just make a pretty image in the heads of people and they won't care enough to look ahead of time to see if that's really true for themselves

We CAN'T use the BPP map! What if someone signs up for that map that isn't part of the BPP project?

Nonono, the map isn;t to "sign uP" for a meetup .. it just gives a general idea of .. where ZU'ers are on the map to see ahat could be a viable meetup-y place .. no?

We can't use the BPP map because if anyone puts themselves on the BPP map that doesn't want to be part of the BPP, it'd be a gigantic mess!

Flipside to what Asci said - what if people who sign up for the BPP don't want to/can't attend a meet-up for whatever reason? 'twould be slightly misleading.

My reasoning behind a separate map is like Asci and Tiroth said, It would become too messy and people who wanted to participate in the BPP but not go meet people in person would become mixed up. Also it would make it difficult on both Jodd and Asci when they went to go plan the route for the BPP :3

Ugh, am I the only ZUer in Georgia?

I like the idea of a southeastern meeting in Atlanta. There's no way I'm going to convince my parents to spend any more gas money than that on driving me to a video game nerd-convention. XD

I'm sure there may be more, just not a lot of people really have noticed this thread.

And you can always suggest to start your own meetup in Atlanta, if there isn't one already trying to form (*hasn't really given much notice to this board in the past month* >.>).

I think something's wrong with the map. Instead of showing the actual map, all I see is "Image Unavailable" all over the place.
