ZUCast - The Programme Cast! (suggestions)

We'll be using this thread to GENERATE AND REFINE PROGRAMME IDEAS

VERY fair.
I bolded the above because we need to start knocking out and shaping those ideas. Please refer to this format.

I proposed a few suggestions for programmes in the first post. Let me see what we have in the way of Suggestions for programmes/sections so far: (including my original list)

- "The News on the Drama Front" - where community news from around ZU that week is given as headlines. It can be about ANything during that week. Can range from the latest controversial stuff happening in serious business to the idiotic happenings that subsequently got so 'n so banned - and be done in a really fun way!

- Updates/news/Announcements - site stuff and zelda-related news stuffs, a summary by one of the admins

- "Question Time" - this one I'm really looking forward to if it generates support! Basically, as I mentioned above - I believe that ZU is ZU by merit of the people within it that make it so. So, this is a thingy where we'll choose an influential ZU'er every week, announce it a week or so before, then accept questions from ZU'ers (in a thread within the forums somewhere) to be posed to that influential personality during the "Interview". People I had in mind are like Lars, Peefy, Capn, andi, Hind, Lioness, Mad Hatter, Josh .. xD
Seriously though. And it can either be semi-serious or completely bonkers

- "Get to Know your Mods" - it was something that's been done before on the forums, but I don't think it worked very well on text; so, I thought that maybe .. well.. you know :3

- Member Highlight of the week - as suggested by Muzz. A call out on a ZU'er who stood out that week and such. Self explanatory. Lovely idea

- Meaning to Madness - Future's light but thoughtful shorts/quotes/sayings etc

- Poetry/Art of the week from the Art & Writing section? tie that in with a competition perhaps (I think it dOEs run doesn't it? last I heard there was something like that .. ). Anyway, that piece of poetry could be read out.

- I just thought of this but .. WHAT ABOUT SHAMELESS ADVERTISING?! xD Can we have some kind of really silly advert thingy to sig shops or anything? *laughs*

- Woah, Internet really IS serious business : a discussion about a topic concerning the forums or somesuch?

PLEASE GET SUGGESTIN'!

Scott - what exactly do you mean of "soMEthing"? how far do we need to get?

EDIT - I almost feel this should be anotehr thread within itself .. just "programme suggestions" -- the thread is too mammoth already to get fresh ideas from people who don't know ...

- and another thread for people's signup and/or submissions?

See why we need a section already Scoots? :/

Oh, yes, I thought of this yesterday but then forgot about it and couldn't remember what it was I'd thought about. I thought that people should be able to submit short advertisements to things such as their signature shops, Graphics or Dome homerooms, or even other forums or sites. They could submit the advertisement as an audio file and have the editors or whatever fit it into a "commercial break" or something, or they could submit it as text and a host or someone could read it out.

I also thought there could be some kind of "Highlights of the Week" in which you could fit things such as "Member of the Week," "Thread of the Week," "Post/Quote of the Week," "Admin/Mod of the Week," "Signature of the Week," "Poem of the Week," and other such highlights.

Anyway, could someone please answer my above question? I quoted myself 'cause in light of all the debate over what program to use, it was ignored.

I was thinking of doing a segment I call "the casual gamer" (just on top of my head). Since Nintendo's policy is changing, at least I'm interested to what the casual gamer thinks. Ok, this sounds boring at first... But I'd go downtown, maybe ask people if they play videogames, ask if they know who Super Mario is, maybe interview some guy at a gamestore, see who the kids like more: Master Chief or Samus (designwise)... you know, stuff like that. Suggestions are welcomed.

I was thinking making a few short episodes (depending on how many good ideas there are) that could appear every now and then as we keep making podcasts.

Yeah, that's my initial idea. Any comments on that, directors?

LOVE that idea
Also- I must add that all sound files should be sent to me in MP3 format! Actually, just for consistancy, all files should probably be in MP3 format, just to keep it all simple... I'll be working in Adobe Audition, since that is what I have.

This is a great idea. I support it in full and if there is ever any need of assistance in the editing and splicing part of it, feel free to contact me as I'm fairly experienced in making podcasts and editing sound files. Been doin' it for quite a while in Garageband and I've had 2 or 3 classes in school about it. (not trying to brag or anything, just throwin' it out there just in case of need of assistance.)

Hope this takes off! I'll definately be a subscriber.

Alas, to make this post not pointless and to make myself look less stupid, I have a couple of suggestions.

Perhaps a Zelda Music section?
You could state the area where you can find the whole song for download and then play a segment of it and comment on it. Just to give the listener a break from paying attention to soley the voice of the speakers. I don't know how you'd thread it into the program but yea. Just tossin' that out there aswell.

And if the purely Zelda idea doesn't float your boat, you can throw in the member bands of the Entertainment/Music section just to incorperate them in the podcast. You can get a sense of ZU's creative side and throw in some of their recordings.

Hope that helped.

What also would be nice is a small entertainment part discussing the latest hit movie/game/music etc.

Also shameless advertising YES! Advertising all the rubbish you still want to sell on ebay

I thought I made the title meaning to the madness. Ah well as long as I get to say it once in a blue moon I'll be alright.

Name: Critique Controversy (Name partly made by Asia )

Purpose: Give artists a chance to have their work critiqued and commented on by real people who have smart, informed ideas.

Idea for show: A two minute segment. We show a piece of art then one host gets a minute to comment on it. Then the other host gets a minute to either say his own comments of just go against the other host. Wither way that artist gets comments and criticism on their work along with advertising and we get more air time.

Good idea, bad idea?

Well, the problem is that the show is likely to be audio only. We cannot show art unless there is also going to be a video that goes with it.

Well it doesn't exactly need to show the art piece DD. We could say where it's located or something like that.

Even then, that means we have to provide a link for people to go to at the exact time that it gets discussed. Not discrediting the idea entirely, but the feasablility is a bit of an issue in this case.

Hokay!

What do we have here,
I answered Lysis but thread split and such made things a wee bit confused. So, quoting myself from previous thread:

Lysis - !
That's a brilliant set of ideas =O

I love the audio advertisements made by the members themselves idea -- heck, not just signature shops but art and writing threads also and such! xD

And yes, how did I not see it before? a "Highlights" segment that can have members, artwork, poetry, etc etc all under one roof. Nice!

That is so courageous.
You have what you need to do that well? the recording quality has to be halfway good at least, but yeah! I like =D
.. though.. I'm not sure if you Are able to find many gamers.. unless you looked and did this in a gaming store. Thoughts anyone, on this?

First of all - hey! and thanks for volunteering editing services =D
Even though we have Margar as our chief editor, it's a comfort to know we have a backup - thanks for volunteering your services in that sector!

Now for the idea - would it be breaking any copyright laws to play actual zelda music? we need that answered before going any further on this.
IS there much new things happening in the way of zelda music? I always thought it was a case of "here's the music that appeared in so 'n so game" after a game release and that was it. No?
am I being blasphemous? xD

Member bands in the entertainment section? as in.. music made by ZU'ers? where? =O

Ok, I was ACtually thinking about the Hosts .. and their role..
*clears throat*

How about we have the hosts chatting about those kinda things in between the different segments before they usher them in. So, talk about the latest movie/game etc could be part of the banter that takes place in between all these things.
Which means .. we really REAlly need 2 people who can banter
That's going to be stage 2 of the host selection process - you get to record with the other host to see how well you work together. Hurhur

Or did you mean a dedicated slot to discussing latest gamey/entertainment-y things, Nictel?

Forseti - aye, it's a bit awkward to critique an artwork when a person isn't looking at the image at the same time-- it would just be confusing. I have no problem with, say, "HIghlighting" a really good piece that week or an impressive art thread or such -- but that goes back and fits in well with Lysis' idea =)

I would like to hear from the BA'ers, Clanners and serious Business folk etc etc

Any ideas from THOse sectors?

Come on, venture out and share =D

EDIT! - Hey! I just thought of something!
Can we have a faux rivalry-of-the-week? xD xD xD
It can be totally made up or parodying rEAl rivalries in the-

AH!
I just thought of something else! *is laughing*

How about .. a very VERY short ZU audio drama? it can be something as simple as:

Quote:
It is a very normal day at Zelda Universe, Quiet, peaceful an- ah, put your earplugs in, ladies and gentlemen, we're passing through Serious Business;

All you hear is :
"yes it is!"
"No it isn't!"
"yes it IS!"
"oh no it's NOt!"

A pardody from Monty Python in this case, but it's SO relevant xD
Or it can make fun of the chatroom, or drama .. in the SoI .. or ANything - Someone can play "the Judge" and all sorts!
Comment!

^ To the very last part, I don't think there's need to do something like that every week or so. However, whenever you talk about a member or thread in I:SB, you could play that short part, for a bit of comic relief And then someone says: Yeah, this week we've seen this one topic growing at incredible speed, it's a heated discussion...etc.

I'll find some people, no worries. As for my equipment, My family has a few MP3 players and some microphones, I should probably find some combination that works.

The one problem would be the language. If I'm talking to kids or the like, I'm not sure I'd be able to speak english with them. If so, I might either skip the whole thing or talk to them in swedish, then record an english version at home. Could work.

I gave it a bit more thought and I think casual is actually nicer, my favourite radio shows are those where they just talk about what's happening around them often with a guest. Perhaps that's an idea having two main hosts with one guest or 'section expert'.

They could talk if and what games they played, what movie they went to or what new cd they bought. Having a dedicated slot would probably make it too forced, you don't buy a new game/movie/cd every week. Besides it doesn't even have to be about new games they could even talk about how they picked up a game on the VC or something.

Having someone on occasion would be a good idea, having someone from the BA or a latest update on how the clan wars are going
Celebrity guests would be great, I personally volenteer to do the interview with Scarlett Johansson.

My understanding of copyright laws and based on previous research and readings is as long as there is no profit being made from whatever the music is being used in, then you can use any music you'd like. I know a lot of podcasts have music running at the beginning and end, or in the background, and since they are being offered for free and they aren't being made available seperate from the body of work, its fine.

It's if we started selling real ad space or somehow started turning a profit on this that we would run into trouble. As long as the broadcast itself is free, then it should be fine.

I can't speak for the sirs own idea, but while casual banter is fine ("Hey, you see that ne movie this weekend?" "No, I don't like Meryl Streep, just not a fan." "But she's one of the great actors of our time!" "Yeah, but she rubs me the wrong way for some reason." "How could you even say that?" etc etc), I think that there's room for a more in-depth segment where people could talk about different trends in the industry(ies) or what they are listening to/watching.

Of course, that could just be me, because I'm a huge entertainment nerd.

Why should advertising stop with just writing and art threads and sig shops?

We should also advertise battle and crossroad threads, games in the clan arena, a discussion thread in the Zelda or IS sections.

Well I do know quite a few people here at ZU are members of bands and if they were made aware of it, I'm sure they would snatch up the oppurtunity for their music to be heard in front of an audience, even if it is for a brief amount of time (just to get the word out about their band) . It's something we musicians are in need of, air time and I'm sure this would be a great way to help out those ZU'ers that are in bands and want to see them get better and more well known achieve that goal.

My boyfriend is a great songwriter, and also a zelda fan (I've been pestering him to join ZU, he said he will, but who knows when )
anyway, he has volunteered to write a song either about ZU, or Zelda... it wouldn't be right away, but sometime.

also, when should we aim to have the first podcast done? At this point, I think we have enough ideas to make a couple, so it's up to asia and galedeep to compile a few ideas, along with target lengths for each segment, then start doling out projects!!!

Oh, also- i was thinking, if you are producing a spot, and there is a particular song or piece of music you want at the beginning or end of the segment, I (as editor) would prefer to be the one to put the music in, because I am the one who will know how long the music should go, when to fade it in and out, and so on. I don't have to PICK the music myself(although, I'd be glad to anytime). whoever produces the segment can choose the music, but I will be the one to put it in. does that make sense?

^ Makes perfect sense. Myself, I'm ready to begin writing my idea down to have it approved and stuff... as soon as someone says go. One thing also, for the first episode the hosts must absolutely insist that the listeners give us feedback.
