Shigeru loves Disney's Sleeping Beauty?

Hi everyone! I noticed A LOT of similarities between this very old Disney movie and the Legend of Zelda! Take a look at this video:

0:07 - 1:52 : Moblins!
2:57 : Tower looking like TP's highest tower in Hyrule Castle
3:04 : Adventure of Link (obviously)
5:04 : Midna frees wolf Link
5:23 - 5:34 : Listen to the fairy's words regarding the shield and sword
6:00 : The fairys turned little and glowing like navy (and tatl, ant all the other zelda fairies), and they're the same colour as the Goddesses: Green, Blue, Red.
6:45 : looks like TP plus fairies
7:36 : OOT Gerudo Valley horse jump
8:13 : Ganon's Castle in OOT, with the round cloud
9:00 : Looks like TP Hyrule Castle
9:58 : The final fight with fire walls surrounding the area, like OOT Ganon

for those lazy who hadn't watch the video an the ALIENS who never saw that movie, let's say:
The three fairies in the movie resemble Din (Flora), Nayru (Merry Weather), and Farore (Fauna), and act in a very similar way as Navy (and the other fairies companions of the series). The epic final battle using a magic "sword of truth" is very similar to the way Link killed ganon several times (especially OOT, where the sword at the end glows). The overall look of the Castle and castle town in the movie looks like TP's one. some enemies look like Zelda enemies in early installments of the series. And last but not least...AoL takes clear inspiration from the old Sleeping Beauty fairytale.

coclusion: Disney' Sleeping Beauty could have been an inspiration for Shigeru Miyamoto. They at least share a lot of similarities. Coincidences? Or is this movie one of shigeru's favourites?

Very interesting findings! I believe you're right on this. The Zelda series does take a lot of elements from various stories and legends.

Certainly seems like it, the actual legend of Zelda was in all likeliness inspired by Sleeping Beauty.

I'm replying to you thread, too.

I noticed the Sleeping Beauty reference in The Advetnure of Link, but I never noticed all the other references and similarities!

I wouldn't be too suprised if Sleeping Beauty was set in the Zelda Universe. If anything, Sleeping Beauty appears to be an actual literal legend of the entire Zelda series, or vice versa.

The Advetnure of Link, for a start, can be called Sleeping Beauty's 'literal legend', as they hae no actual in-universe connections and are both obviously different fictional universes, but their storylines are very similar. And you can also say that Sleeping Beauty inrpised The Legend of Zelda, as you said.

The shield in Sleeping Beauty is also exactly the same as the shield used by Link in The Legend of Zelda- the first title, by the way.

yeah, anything with a royal-ish princess usually started out being inspired by that.
