If a Kokiri leaves the woods, he or she will die!

I don't remember who said this in OoT but...

The Great Deku Tree said that if
a Kokiri leaves the woods, he or
she will die!

What do you think this means? If a Kokirir leaves the forest, do they die immediately, or do they just lose their eternal youth, grow old, and die over time?

There isn't really a way to know for sure, but tell me what you think.

no one really knows. the Oot credits show the kokiri at the party at Lon Lon Ranch, so it's safe to assume that they don't die immediately, but we don't know what effect a long term absence from the forest would have on a kokiri.

OoT takes place after a series of fierce wars, and there monsters all over the place. That quote doesn't mean instant death, it just means that without the Deku Tree's protection, they'd be in trouble.

I think that was told to them just to protect them from the world. I was always under the impression that before the War and before the Deku Tree had the forest closed off to the outside world, that there was at least an alliance between the Royal Family and the forest. I mean, the King would want to know everyone in the land so he can keep the peace. Maybe the Deku Tree foresaw that if he had a part in the war then that would mean the end of the forest. So he probably just told the kids that to scare them. (For all the right reasons of course.)

Yeah, I think it's no more complicated than 'There be monsters out there- in the forest, however, the Deku tree protects us!' Hence why when he's dead the monsters have spread, but i suspect upon the sprout's... erm... sprouting ... the forest becomes safe again.

I think the boy either blocking the exit or nera the exit said that

It's a lie to children, there's no real harm in chewing pencils, but parents don't want kids to do it because it because it's not a good thing to do. But that isn't very persuasive to kids, so if you make them think something awful will happen if they do it they'll stay clear of doing it.

In the same way, the Deku Tree telling the Kokiri they'll die if they leave is more persuasive than saying they might get hurt or attacked.
He's simply acting as a parent making sure his kids are alright.

Not at all, it's not exactly a well known threat.

If a Kokiri is born in front of the Great Deku Tree's presence, it automatically is Korkirian. If a Kokirian leaves the forest and has a child, it doesn't stay young. If a Kokiri suffers from a great flood, it turns into a Korok. If a Kokiri gets lost in the Lost Woods, it becomes a Skull Kid.

i really doubted the Kokiri needed The Great Deku Tree's life force to exist.

That's exactly what I said earlier. Oh well, at least we're on the same page.

Given that the Koroks are the form the Kokiri took when "they left the forest to live on the sea," I'd say it's not strictly true.

I think if the Kokiri leave the forest they become a Stalfos.. I think that's what the Blonde Kokiri said in OoT!

I think the magic that keeps them children wears off and they grow up and die of old age.
