Technically they qualify as Grassland Helmasaurs, however the Dark World's magic has mutated them, changing them into Dark World Helmasaurs, a breed only found in the Dark World.

Re: Hyrulean Wildlife Theory Guide
Okay, the next animal in my field guide is the Bulbo (those giant pigs from TP), which I have given the common name, the Bull Boar (makes sense doesn't it).
Bull Boars are perhaps one of the strongest herd animals in Hyrule. They pack enough strength to wreck a house, and when charging can bust through iron gates! They have poor eyesight, instead relying on their sense of smell to guide them. Both genders sport small tusks, which they use to dig up roots, fungi, and small invertebrates to eat. Bull Boars travel in herds composed of many males and females, and their young. A Bull Boar has a reinforced cranium that allows them to knock down trees and other tough objects with a powerful headbutt. Bull Boars weigh about 5 tons.

Re: Hyrulean Wildlife Theory Guide
Alright, I'd like this thread to get back on topic, so I'll post the next animal from my field guide. This is an animal that is never seen in-game, but its existance is hinted by the lion-shaped doors in the Gerudo Training Grounds in OoT, and by the name of the King of Red Lions in TWW. So, may I introduce, the Red Lion.
The Red Lion is similar to the species found in Africa, but it is smaller and colored a reddish-brown hue. They live in small groups called prides, consisting of a dominant male, several females, and their young. Only adult male Red Lions have a bright red mane. Hunting is done primarily by the females, but all of the pride members partake in eating, with the male going first. Red Lions primarily hunt large herbivores such as helmasaurs and bull boars. They weigh about 60 pounds.

Re: Hyrulean Wildlife Theory Guide
This is great, it's very well written as well. I liked the section on Helmasaurs, 'cause they're my favorite enemy an' all.

Re: Hyrulean Wildlife Theory Guide
This brings up questions... The animals we never see- mermaids, lions, moles, the roc, are these in the Zelda universe? Imagery/items would say so.

Probably. Well, except for mermaids, which are probably a myth, even in Hyrule. I wouldn't be suprised if the Zoras inspired the tale of the mermaid, well in the games that is. Next up in my field guide is the Mountain Helmasaur (from TMC), which I given the scientific name, Helmasaur ouros (Helmet Reptile of the Mountains). The Mountain Helmasaur is smaller than its grassland relative, and has a different diet. It is also not as heavily armored, with only its head covered by armor, which like the Grassland Helmasaur, is formed out of hardened mucous. The Mountain Helmasaur occasionally sharpens the tip of it's "helmet" against rocks and mountain faces. This is because it uses the sharpened point to impale its prey when hunting. Like the Grassland Helmasaur, this "helmet" can occasionally fall off, during which the Mountain Helmasaur temporarily ceases hunting and instead suppliments its diet on insects and plants that live near mountain bases, until it can grow a new "helmet". Though normally a solitary animal, they watch over their young after they hatch for at least two years, until the young can grow their own "helmets". Unlike in TMC, "real-life" Mountain Helmasaur's have four legs, not just two, and can assume both bipedal and quadrepedal stances. When chasing after prey, they run on two legs, but while stationary, they walk on four legs. Mountain Helmasaurs have a body that is reminiscent of a theropd dinosaur. They weigh about 50 pounds.

Re: Hyrulean Wildlife Theory Guide
In OoA the Zoras show signs that they themselves have dealing with mermaids. And why, when you have a well known race of the Zora, would you invent a race based on their appearance?

Sorry, I've never played that game, so I wouldn't have known that. Can you give me some direct quotes rgarding that?

Next up in my field guide is the Kargarok (the one from TP), which I have given the common name, the Dragon Buzzard, and the scientific name, Ornithosaurus (bird reptile). The Dragon Buzzard, despite its name, is not a bird, but a reptile. Evolved from small jumping lizards, it is lightweight and excellently adapted for flight, with hollow bones, and air sacs attached to its lungs to deal with lower air pressure at high altitudes and to give it lift for flight. Its mouth has been replaced by a beak, to better deal with eating carrion. Though it is mainly a scavenger, it will not turn up a bit of live prey. Dragon Buzzards usually roost in large trees and mountain peaks. They often nest in communal flocks.
