Re: Termina: Alternate Universe or Nintendo's Laziness?

Who cares if they reused the same engine??? Majora's is still a great game, and the clock, time limit and the sincronization of all the game with it already take a lot of effort from the programmers. It wasn't lazyness, was the last intent to say goodbye to the N64 with dignity

Like Glasto says. It is without a doubt my favourite of all the games, whatever the reason for their decisions- I wouldn't change them if I could!

Re: Termina: Alternate Universe or Nintendo's Laziness?

I say both, Nintendo got a whole bunch of pre-existing NPCs from OoT
(somewhat lazy-depends on your perspective) so they made a parallel dimension
out of it.

Re: Termina: Alternate Universe or Nintendo's Laziness?

I don't feel as though Nintendo was lazy; that's just a contrasting view, so I used it as the title of the thread. I understand that there was a serious time constraint, so they reused the OoT character models. I feel as though, however, the alternate universe was just a cover-up for the recycling.

Re: Termina: Alternate Universe or Nintendo's Laziness?

It's funny, this game reuses a lot of things from Ocarina of Time. At first glance, you might just think it's more of the same. However, Majora's Mask is easily one of the most, if not the most, different Zelda game(s) yet. With that said, it's my favorite game in the series.

Neither of them wear hats. The trading post guy has hair, and the curiosity shop guy is bald. It's impossible for them to be the same person.

I just like my Zeldas to be more traditional but MM is still a good game. The oath to order is kind of sad in a way.

It's the same guy. In the day he wears a wig, at night he is bald and wears glassed. He even wears the same clothes and beard.

I assume it was intentional, why else would they use a model for a part time worker when they could easily use it for something else.

What exactly does the curiosity shopkeeper and the Trading post shopkeeper's dual identity have to do with the Parallel? Nonetheless, I enjoyed the idea of Majora's Mask having it's own General-rated seedy underbelly.

Re: Termina: Alternate Universe or Nintendo's Laziness?

I don't think they weren't being lazy, it's an entirely new story, with new gameplay, and even some new character models. And even if they were being lazy with the character models, they more than made up for it with the use multiple masks, special abilities and the whole 3 day time thing.... so for every reused model, there was a new gameplay/story element added to the game.

It was a truly unique game.

Yea, you're right. I wasn't really thinking. It is a bit mysterious that whenever the owner of the Trading Post isn't in, the Curiosity Shop is open. lol
Also, playing through MM and trying to get all 20 mask. Awesome game, regardless of the recycling of character models.
