Re: A Connection?
Kiiinda, but not really. Sure there was a flood that killed everyone and destroyed Hyrule, but not for the same reason.
So... the only similarities is that they both involve divine floods ![]()

Re: A Connection?
It's not just Christianity [or even Abrahamic/Monotheistic religion in general] that has a flood story. Nearly every culture and religion has a great flood story of some kind. I believe the oldest recorded documentation of a great flood is the "Epic of Gilgamesh", which is a Babylonian document.

Re: A Connection?
you mean norse mythology has nothing to do with christianity, and that's absolutly right (it has to do everything with norse religion though, since their mythology was their religion). I was just stating that japanese games do take inspiration from all kind of religions and mythologies.

Re: A Connection?
Most of Zelda's mythology is a blend of contemporary fantasy and real world cultural archetypes. The Japanese source texts are full of Japanese cultural and religious terminology, and we see a number of symbols derived from and/or similar to theirs as well as other cultures'.

That being said, out of all the flood myths I'm aware of the WW flood is more resembling the story of Atlantis than the Biblical Flood. |

Though Hyrule's flooding is not sent as divine punishment or retribution, but to start a new world from Ganondorf. It does have more in common with the Atlantis or Lost Continent of Mu story (beautiful prosperous kingdom blessed by the gods or suchlike, then is sunk under the sea and never heard from again, but its legend lives on.)

Re: A Connection?
The usual Biblical flood and the WW Flood are fairly similar, actually.
Both involve the land becoming wraught with evil. The flood is done in order to drown the evil (or, well, seal it away). The good people are chosen to escape the flood, although the flood in the Bible floods the land until not even the mountaintops are visible. This bit is very similar to the Indian flood myth involving Manu, who DOES build a ship, but he tows it to a high mountain and survives. It's also similar to the story of Deucalion, who flees to a mountain top. The part with Hyrule being under the sea is not really similar to Atlantis, although it's similar to modern interpretations of the story. The old Atlantis story is about Atlantis being absolutely DESTROYED, but nowadays, we like to think of Atlantis actually surviving, or the survivors of Atlantis creating an underwater city in place of Atlantis.
