LA Retranslations list

Just posted this over in the translation topic, so I figured I should give it to you guys as well. These were mostly done by Jumbie and jacensolo06, fluent Japanese speakers. On a few occasions, one of them checked/corrected/confirmed translations by the other, too.

Bold = must-read for all theorists. Some of these are because the content has always been highly relevant as timeline evidence (some of them are vital to understand intent), so the most canonical versions need to be available for those arguments. And of course, many are notable because the translation reveals a major different. TP has a lot worth reading, so I may need to further edit this, say, to use bold for required ones and italics for recommended ones that are just second in priority (i.e. minor but interesting/noteworthy differences). Also, note how many TWW translations are important - a lot of people here misunderstand TWW and what its most important quotes are and/or mean, so please do read those.

Re: LA Retranslations list

I have to commend you Impossible. For once, someone is being accountable to showing others the works of the LA boards which so heavily influences the trends that flow throughout the world of Zelda Theorizing.

Although I've already admitted defeat to you in private, I say congratulations on beating me to this. I've been reading through that 46 + page atrocity over and over to make sure I didn't miss anything for the listings that are under construction at ZI. However I am putting them in chronological order directly (unlinked) to avoid some of the distracting discussions. These links will help me check over my own work too.

Excellent job.

Re: LA Retranslations list

I like this list, it makes things easier to look up.

And it is sure as heck easier to look up than the one on ZI.

It's still under construction. Don't be petty.

This list IS much more easier. Yet rough drafts have to be made for future adaptations (like text comparison tables which Impossible has been working on, just as I have begun recently too).

Organize-wise, this is better. It's not 'all over the place'.

Re: LA Retranslations list

I know the ordering in my lists isn't great, because I originally made the list as a rough reference for my own use. The newer ones (OoT and MM) are chronological, a lot of the older ones are listed by relevance (i.e. really important ones at the start), or by topic (putting TP scenes about the same thing together), or maybe just by the order they were translated. I need to fix that up at some point, but proper chronological order can't even be done at times, as there are translations of multiple parts in one post where something else would belong in between.

What are you doing with respect to translation comparisons? It may be best if we were co-ordinated on this, since I'm still going to do more of those when I have time - I started FSA's a while back, I might do the whole thing in a week or so. The TWW table is here. I don't know where davogones has gone, I'm still waiting for that to be added to Zelda Legends.

Well, it just goes to show you people cant spoon-feed into everything perfectly the first time around.

What I did, is I copied and pasted every quote from the translation thread into one massive word document - my own personal "master list". Then, I opened a new word document, titled it respectively to one of the games, and started scrolling through my "master list" extracting quotes relating to that title. I put them into chronological order to the best of my knowledge of the game' storyline progresses.

I would like to do that, but right now I'm going to be working on finishing my thread on ZI tonight. It may be easier for you to look into it when things are more easier to read and linked too.

It's a good idea considering this translating process by Jumbie and jasensolo06 has been going on for two years now...

Edit:

After checking each of your links, I have all those quotes except the KnS ones... Of course those were not in the translation thread - heh......

Re: LA Retranslations list

Nice, good to see it's finally more organized...I didn't like searching through the thread on LA and ZI, it always took so long.
Good job.
I still think we should have a "theorizing resources" sticky thread, and I think this would be good for it, along with text dumps and manual scans etc.

I can't tell if Goron is saying LOZ's are bad because she thinks they are or because she doesn't like ZI...
Yours are looking fantastic LOZ, I can't wait to see the end result.

Cheers Impossible. This should make it easier for theorists here to check on quotes and translations. The LA thread is quite messy (although I haven't really looked at it for 2 or 3 weeks...).

The reason I'm doing it the way I am is to omit the discussions and sidetracking stuff from the translation thread found on LA. That way people have the set quotes, and then jacensolo06 or Jumbie's insightful notes/comments afterward.

I can't help that there won't be links to a specific brackets of translations because there are so many. That's the penalty when you start re-translating various areas within a game non uniformly. Besides, every theorist should know how to use the Edit and Find-Search tabs on their browsers. It's better to throw them all together as if you were looking through a regular Quote FAQ script for a game anyway.

What Impossible has done is extremely helpful. With these specific links to the translation posts found on LA, people will be able to know where I drug them from, AND it will be easier for me to make future updates likewise. I'll be using these as my sources as well, Impossible.

You also demand to be fully credited.
This is about accountability *******.

I never implied I wanted full credit for any of the work Impossible or the translators did. I've been quite humble in fact.

Anyway, I have work to do.

Re: LA Retranslations list

Hey Impossible.

I was wondering for this specific translation here, if that fourth line was the Japanese or American manual comparison.

Wasn't sure what Jumbie said.

Yours are looking fantastic LOZ, I can't wait to see the end result.

Cheers Impossible. This should make it easier for theorists here to check on quotes and translations. The LA thread is quite messy (although I haven't really looked at it for 2 or 3 weeks...).
I never did say anything about translations. I was talking about the way things are organized in ZI.
