My Thoughts on Hyrulean Religion

Hey, just another one of my theories, so no scolding please. Anyway, I realized that, (especially in OoT), a lot of Hyrulean Religion is based on Christian and Muslim belief. And each Hyrulean Group (Hylians, Sheikah, etc.) all relate to either Christian or Muslim belief.

Example(s): Part One--> Christian
Hyrulean Groups More on Christian Similarities: Hylians, Sheikah,

My reasons for putting Hylians and Sheikah under Christian similarities is that one: the Triforce is based on the 3 people in one God, two: The Triforce is more commonly recognized, and three: many Christian symbols used like (Triforce = Holy Trinity, Sheikah Eye = Symbol of God's All-Seeing Eye showing that He can see and knows everything.)

Example(s): Part Two--> Muslim
Hyrulean Groups More on Muslim Similarities: Gorons, Gerudos

My reasons for putting Gorons and Gerudos under Muslim is that one: The old Gerudo crescent moon symbol is Muslim, two: the old Fire Temple music had chanting Muslim music in the background of the music, and three: Muslim symbols like (Crescent Moon = Muslim Symbol, Fire Temple Symbol: Once a Muslim Symbol of hell.)

By the way, after you read my top opinions, I need your help guys on where to place the Zora and Kokiri. I was thinking both would be Christian, but what do you all think?

Yeah, good point. Thanks, I never thought of that. What did you think about my opinions? Would you agree?

Re: My Thoughts on Hyrulean Religion

Very true, but Christianity only falls in with the fact that three people in one God was what based the idea of the Triforce being three goddesses in one power..(thats what I meant.)

But, yes, you are right, they are observations....

Re: My Thoughts on Hyrulean Religion

i agree with caulaincourt it is an observation and hyrule does have lesser gods littered in the land but those gods worship other gods whose to say that the three goddesses dont worship different gods its all very confusing but being a christian myself i do not believe that the gods of hyrule are true gods all of them are false but the triforce going into many different things does in some way kind of resemble the holy trinity but even so i like the legend of zelda

Yeah, do not take this seriously, it is fiction from the Zelda game, not reality.

Re: My Thoughts on Hyrulean Religion

Perhaps the lesser gods were chosen by the goddesses to help lead the people of hyrule?

after all, Hylians could supposedly hear the voice of the goddesses, but the other races couldn't. So, in order to have some connection between the other races and the goddesses, the goddesses appointed the lesser gods as a sort of intermediary between them.

Re: My Thoughts on Hyrulean Religion

The kokiri are pagans, clearly. Worshipping nature? Remaining youthful even in old age? It may sound hilarious, but that's where I'd put them.

As for the Zora . . . I honestly have no idea.

I thought abut it, and based on the way Kokiri live their lives, and with the deku tree being their gaurdian, they are just normal children without and reality-derived religion.

i like how Miyamoto made up a religion in wich the main Gods are women, it's so original, besides that makes Hyrule feminist.

Re: My Thoughts on Hyrulean Religion

The Hylian religion is that the world was created by the Goddesses Farore, Din, and Nayru, who named the world they created Hyrule and left the Triforce in it.

The Hylians worship these three goddesses among other gods, and think they can commune with the deities through the Triforce.

Re: My Thoughts on Hyrulean Religion

LoZ and AoL had references to Christianity. The Magic Book, for example, was simply Bible in Japanese. Also in official artwork of ALttP, Link can be seen praying in front of a cross.

That's actually an excellent point; it's wouldn't be faith if there was any proof. But at the same time, people who believe in an external god are sure of its existence. In a theoretical sense, when there's no evidence to the contrary, what's the difference between certainty and fact?

In-Game the Godesses never talk in person to Link, despise Link being the Chosen Hero.
In OoT all the characters know about the Godesses as if they were proven to exist.

Re: My Thoughts on Hyrulean Religion

The Kokiri seem to have Christian-based beliefs. It's an analogy used in the bible. How God favors children because they are born without sin, and have a greater understanding of spiritual things. They (the Kokiri) are portrayed as innocent, and live in the Garden in harmony with God, if they were to be compared with a religion.

The Gerudo are definitely Muslims. First of all, they live in the desert, and the crescent moon is common. Since they are in the desert, it is reasonable to assume the character-writers placed Islamic symbols in Gerudo areas.

The Zora are weird for this topic. I honestly have no idea.

Just to avoid misunderstandings, I believe you meant INSPIRED by those religions. The mentionned religions don't actually exist in Zelda. Just thought it should be said.

Re: My Thoughts on Hyrulean Religion

Yes, that's what I meant to say. The writers did not just come up with a random religion, they probably based it upon ancient or modern religions.

Re: My Thoughts on Hyrulean Religion

It would only make sense for them to base their ideas on real religions and reality anyway.
