Crescent moon geography, redux

Random fact: Hyrule was retconned in TP. Saying that the devs have no ide what they're talkin about is utter rubish.

So, in that case, it could also mean that orientations are not important at all. Because, if we consider that the north of OoT and the north of TP are the same, a lot of places would not match. And I say this because i still believe that it's more probable that they screwed with directions than to believe that the islnad magically rotated.

And, if you check well, the islands to the southeast of Crescent Moon could have merged to form Labrynna, it's not really difficult.

I ALMOST completely agree with you Smertos. Somewhere between the Hyrluians changing their idea of 'up/north' and the physical magnetic poles changing over time, and it just not being that important explains any descrepencies in directions. 'Ignoring the placement of two Crescent Islands' being the result of it 'not being that important' should not be the result of the discussion, that's all I'm saying.

Couldn't agree with you more on this one. And this is why i think that the quotes about directions and orientation in OoA should be discarded when discussing this kind of stuff...

When we see TWW's map, it definatly doesn't have the same north as TP's, however TP was released after TWW and OoA, making the TWW-OoX comparisons completely valid still.

So you got my point. I was afraid you wouldn't, because i'm kind of tired. So, that's basically it. I think the connection between both islands exist and it's not important why.

Exactly my point. They change this stuff from time to time. We can't possibly know if TWW north was supposed to be OoA north.

OoA was released BEFORE Hyrule was retconned though...

TWW must share the same north as TP, unless the flood drastically altered the rotation of Hyrule's planet, since the movements of the sun are exactly the same. XD At the same time, the compass directions in TWW perfectly correspond with the movements of the sun, so there's no discrepancy between "true north" and "magnetic north," at least not during the time in which these games take place. I think it's hard, in the face of cold, hard science, to propose any kind of map rotation between the 3D games, as in each the sun rises perfectly in the east and sets perfectly in the west as indicated on the gameplay map.

Well as we all know, Lybranna and Holodrom are in close proximity, and I believe someone in OoA says that ''Hyrule is a faraway land'' or something similar to that, so I don't believe that Cresent Island from OoA, and TWW are the same, because Lybranna would be too close to Hyrule.

B: Plate tectonics aside...I'd still like to hear how it went from being a small barren rock in WW to a large thriving tropical island in OoA. Did the plate tectonics also increase the island's size tenfold, and change its climate, while the general climate of all the islands surrounding it remained the same?

@ Erimgard: You'll notice, that in the past of OoA, Cresent island is barren.

I believe it's been proven already that lichens can make rocks fertile with time. By decomposing it, they make it beome normal fertile soil. Considering the island would be located at a tropical place, when that happens, it would definitely be cultivated with tropical plants by nature.

And we don't need plate tectonics to prove that islands can move in the zelda universe. If the trees/koroks can gather islands and make new continents, that means islands can move normally.

Anyway, I still believe that Labrynna was ade of the islands we see southeast of Crescent Moon Island in TWW...

To Smertios: I don't think the Koroks make the islands come together by moving them; I think the Koroks do so by expanding them. There's a similar phenomenon that happens on a much smaller scale in the real-world called "tree islands." Small trees appear on small islands in wetlands, and as the trees begin to populate these small islands their surface area grows larger. I think this is what we're supposed to be imagining on the Great Sea.

I used to think that too, but everyone has been saying otherwise. I thought something in TRR proved that islands were getting closer and closer. But I haven't finished TRR yet. I'm still in the Deku Forest, so i can't really say.

Of course, that could simply be Pinecove's inventions too...

OoA points to the land spreading out. FPTRR could point to the same thing but manifest it in such a way that the islands look close together, because when a cluster of islands get bigger it will also appear to become more packed together.
