What happened to the King of Hyrule in TP?

Well Zelda seems to be in charge of the land, but is still called Princess.
This either means that the king is absent, maybe on some important political trip to a foreign country

or

the king is dead, and the title queen can only be bestowed upon a married woman. Thus Zelda is the ruler but still called princess until she marries.

If we assume that there was a King in the castle when Ganondorf took over, we have only to question how Ganondorf treats his prisoners.

I'm pretty positive that no king is around in TP, Zelda sits on the throne and she is the one who has the power to deciede wether Hyrule should be slaughtered or covered by Twilight.
It could however be that the king has died during the invasion of Zant, since Zelda and the few guards seem to be located at the castles last resort. He might have fallen in battle and thus the ruling power goes to Zelda. This would also serve as a good explanation as to why she is still revered to as princess, there was no time for a offical crowning.
Well, no prove but it's still fun to ponder.

I see... We all need to explore Hyrule castle again, and see if we can see feet sticking out from under one of the tapestries.

Important points:

1.-Zelda isnt the only memmber of the royal family of hyrule, in the begining of the game link was travel to hyrule castle to bring gifts to the royal family,( a family have more than one memmber)

2.-Zelda in TP is called a princess, not a queen.

3.-We have only one throne in the hyrule castle, 4 that we can know that only exist a king or a queen in the royal family in TP. i believe that we have a king because in most of the games we know a hyrule king but never know a hyrule queen.

Although in some situations (The king going missing for instance), the next in line can be givin emergancy powers. What if Ganondorf is the King? Haha, just kidding. If that were true then what about Daphenes Nohanson Hyrule (ugh say that three times really fast.) but then he was a spirit wasn't he? Hmm that's the only explination I could think of. And the queen could've been Link's mother from OOT, "a woman who was wounded from battle entered the sacred forest & left her child there." I think that's what the Young Deku Tree said. See what I mean. That would also explain the fact that they're both the same age...Link and Zelda I mean.

The king in WW explains that he was sealed with Hyrule underwater...er whatever.

And Link and Zelda being siblings? That would explain why they're the same age? So... maybe me and my neighbor have the same mother, because we're the same age? :XD

1 ew and that's not what I MEANT!
2 Zelda's mother is NEVER mentioned, and Link doesn't have a father. See what I mean...it doesn't mean they're related directly, but maybe cousins? What split? I mean, you can have dosens of cousins (again, say that three times really fast) without even knowing it right?

I obviously can't prove Link and Zelda aren't related, but usually when royal people have babies, they are usually pretty heavily protected, more than anyone else. I doubt the queen or some other important person was wounded and had to flee the war, I can't see the war going as far as that. But that's just my assumptions and I can't prove you wrong

When you first meet Zelda and there's the flashback of Zant taking over, it looks like everyone in the throne room is ready for him, prepared. However, there aren't very many guards. Perhaps Zant attacked the castle before that specific scene, and many of the knights and guards died in an attempt to stop him from reaching Zelda. The King was probably a part of this, as Kings have been known to join in during battles, and died. Zelda took over, but since there wasn't a propwer crowning ceremony, was still only called Princess.

It makes sense to me, but it's more Fanfiction tha anything.

Hmm good point there, but remember Ganondorf's one of those people who'd do just about anything to get what he wants. Even going to the extreems of killing the royal familly. (You can tell by his eyes...)
And a caring mother would do "anything" to protect her children. Seperating Link from the royal life may have been her way of doing that. That way (if they were related) the two next to ken would take the throne, haha after they smoke that ganondorf freak. Especially if both the King and Queen were killed in the war..but who says that it was the king sitting in the throne in OOT?? I mean Ganondorf was being pretty polite, more than what he would with another man.

This tracks with what we learn later in the game, with the Zora prince's mother (their queen) also having been executed in front of her royal court during Ganon's invasion.

The King of Hyrule and/or the Queen very likely could also have been killed by Zant at some point prior to the start of the game, with Princess Zelda forced to assume leadership over the kingdom, surrendering to Zant, et al.

Wait, are you suggesting that TP Link is the same person as OoT Link? Or am I just reading this wrong? Cause if you're suggesting what I think you're suggesting, you really need to read up on some Zelda timeline theories. Or maybe just pay attention while playing the games.

More likely the second one. There was no mention of a king and the people in CT seem to call Zelda the "ruler."

When is she referred to as princess by anyone but Midna when she calls zelda "twilight princess" to throw us for a loop? Just curious.

As for the king... it is very apparent at the time of TP, that Zelda is the ruler of Hyrule, with no one above her. There was no King, apparently, at this point in the timeline.
