I want to point out that the Fierce Diety Mask isn't needed to beat Majora.
No one else needs to use his spirit or whatever to kill Majora. Just saying |

As seen in OOT, Skull Kid is happily dancing away atop his tree stump in the Adult Timeline, meaning that he never encountered Majora's Mask. Also, I have this to say:
The Triforce was an ancient, powerful object. Majora's Mask was an ancient, powerful object. Ganondorf found the Triforce and pwned Hyrule with it. At this point, the HMS might figure "Crap, I should just leave that mask alone so we don't get another situation like this." In other words, if Termina was split into two timelines as well, then it was never in danger in the Adult Timeline. Even if the HMS went to Termina, he was never robbed, meaning that he could have destroyed the evil in Majora's Mask by himself. If he tried to sick it on Ganon, it's pretty obvious that it (the mask) failed. Honestly, the only way I can see an Adult Timeline Termina being destroyed is through the Great Flood, and that's only if the flood water poured through the portal in the Lost Woods and flooded Termina.

"HMS comes from termina to sell masks.
HMS goes back to termina. Skull kid shows up to termina. HMS gets mask stolen from him in termina. Skullkid goes back to Hyrule (no reason why he didn't take over Hyrule) HMS goes to hyrule and finds link . Link gets followed by HMS and skull kid." this all happened in childhood. Termina doesn't get destroyed, because skullkid is in lost woods in the adult timeline. I have no clue why skullkid is still alive and is friends with the giants. When a kokiri leaves the woods they will eventually die . when kokiri gets lost in the woods they turn into skull kids. skull kids are technically still kokiri , so they should eventually die when they leave. The giants in mm have some history with him. maybe the skullkid in oot is actually from a parallel tribe of kokiris that got lost in woods of mystery. and the giants were their guardians , and since the guardians arent ruled by the forest , the mm kokiri could leave the forest whenever they want. but thats more fanfic than theory.

I know that, but the FD was put in as something that was suposed to be the thing to kill Majora, since it most likely has some sort of history with the mask. I think the reason Nintendo made it optional was because it turns into a kind of secret thing which adds just another little hint to the story.

Mayby the Happy maks salesman never even went on a journey, seeing as Ganondorf was enslaving Hyrule and all.
