The Skulltula Curse
What is it? What happened to the cursed family in OoT? Why did it happen?
Maybe it says why in the game. I don't remember, since it was kinda long since I played it. But I figured it would be fun to see if anyone knew the origin of the spider curse. This could perhaps be the most obvious thread in the forum. Maybe it is as clear as day in the game. But whatever, at least I'll be a little enlightened. Post your thoughts and theories.

Re: The Skulltula Curse
well that curse will probably never be mentioned in the timeline as it was just a gameplay thing
but id imagine in the adult timeline the family was freed of the curse{in my game they certaintly were} and in the child timeline the poor family lived and died as skullitala's....probably after a couple of years they accepted there new lives and began to live as real skullitala's forgetting there true hylian forms |

Re: The Skulltula Curse
I believe it is stated in the game that they were cursed because of their greed, which is why they have so many rupees to give away. They were a very rich family who became greedy and they were cursed because of that, we are never told exactly who cursed them but I think it would have been the Goddesses themselves. Jovani was cursed because of his greed in TP as well, I believe that it was the Goddesses again who cursed him.
Son_michael brings up a great point, that they would never have been freed from the curse in the Child Timeline and they woul live as Skulltulas for the rest of their lives. I never thought of that before an it is very interesting! |

Re: The Skulltula Curse
I think Jovani mentions a person or spirit that offers him something, then turns him to gold.
I don't think the Godesses would curse someone for their greed, unless they defiled them in some way. I think it may have just been some random magical entity that the OoT family wronged, and were cursed for it.

We don't know anything about their personalities or teachings, besides that Hyrule is a peaceful, flourishing kingdom.

I wish we knew more about the Goddesses. They are very important characters yet we know very little about them. Where are they from? Is there a whole race of them? Do they live in an afterlife which all deceased Hylians have access to? What other lands did they create? What are their personalities like? I wonder... |

Re: The Skulltula Curse
Yes, I wonder too. I theorize that the Oracle Sisters serve as apostles or something, to help people remember the Godesses.
One thing I really dislike, is that they made celia from PH control time. She's the spirit of courage, yet she controls time, which I long believed was something under Nayru's jurisdiction. I wish Neri was the one who helps Link in PH and controls time instead of celia. She's the spirit of wisdom.

Re: The Skulltula Curse
Sorry, but I have to say that the Mutoh Family Tree you posted is innaccurate: Grog and Anju call the Potion Hag their grandmother. So the Potions Hag could either be Mutoh's mother (more likely) or his step-mother.
Now, [/off-topic posts].

Re: The Skulltula Curse
For reference:
"Folks around here tell of a fabulously rich family that once lived in one of the houses in this village... But they say that the entire family was cursed due to their greed! Who knows what might happen to those who are consumed by greed..." Neither Grog nor Anju call her their grandmother. You're thinking of the sign on the door that says "Granny's Potion Shop Closed Gone for Field Study Please come again! --Granny". Other than this, no form of the word "Grandmother", "Grandma", "Granny", etc. exists anywhere in the game. Grog merely says "People are disgusting. My own father and mother are disgusting. You must be disgusting, too!". He also calls her "the old hag" and "that old wench" when you show him Cojiro. Anju calls him her brother. A carpenter also says "The boss carpenter has a son... He's the guy who sits under the tree every night... Don't tell the boss I told you that!". She's called an "old witch" by the young potion shop owner, and "old hag" by the Lakeside Laboratory man, who says she was like a student to him. Mutoh says "I thought I left that saw with my old lady." According to dictionary.reference.com, "old lady" can mean either wife/lover, or mother. The fact that she's a "granny" just means she has grandchildren, or is of the age to have grandchildren; Anju and Grog could still be her direct children. She does look alot older than Mutoh, who is clearly young enough to do rigorous manual labor, but if she's his mother you have to wonder where his wife is. She must be alive, since Grog says "my own father and mother are disgusting" in the present tense, implying she's still alive and seeing him. |
