Re: Maps...

Im gonna have to agree with gustaf that the maps were never intended to coincide I feel that people try to make this more complicated than thsi has to be. there is no relation its just a variety of maps so its not like we play the same game over and over.... thats what i think

Yes but still the same could be said about the placement of alttp i the adult time line. The triforce last apperance would have been in WW only for it to have been forgotten till in comes in after FSA.
This is what i mean

(triforce) (no triforce) (no triforce) (no triforce) (no trofrce) (triforce)
WW---- ---PH---------MC----------FS----------FSA--------ALTTP

Now granted, there's no absolute proof. These points I've presented can be discussed. But to me, it makes more sense to place the FS Saga and ALttP in the AT, post-WW.
Not for me simply bcause i dont believe in the deflooding as i have already stated.

First i think it takes a lot of assuming for the deflooding to occur.. yes its a very good assumption but its still an assumption none the less which i believe is very farfetched.

With regard to that if you were you go with me and say the deflooding never occured that would mean alttp would have to be placed in the child timeline as Hyrule would have remained flooded in the adult time line.

No I explained that:

Lets say the knowlegde of the triforce was forgetten in TP (which it seems to be) that would have continued till after four swords in alttp in which there is a knowlegde of the Triforce.

Yeah i guess he could be refering to the islands joining up as a whole or then maybe his so called dream might not have worked out.... and besides then why would Link go looking for a new Hyrule with Tetra if he heard that.

Re: Maps...

No just the deflooding is hard to believe, there is also the restoring Hyrule to essentially the same state as it was, and somehow justifying stuff not being on the other side of a split.

Well, that sort of thing would take an extremely long time, so... Link would be long dead before that'd finally happen.

In a way, you're right. The Triforce wasn't as prominent in TP as in OoT. However, Zelda still had it, meaning it'd be inherited after her death. The state of ToC and ToP are unknown, but it would make sense that future Royal Families would posess at least the ToW. Yet, there's no trace of the Triforce whatsoever in the FS Saga.

I was wondering is there any reference to how long Alttp is away from OOT or WW(if you claim for it to be in the adult time line), just a thought. I havent finished Alttp yet so i dont know every detail.

Re: Maps...

Thanks for all the ideas so far guys, I'm starting to come around to the deflooding thing now. I don't think that Hyrule would have been rebuild exactly as it was, so I don't belive that ALttp or TP ends up after WW in whatever timeline, but I like the idea of the LoZ Story Ark (Loz and AoL) happening after WW- it would explain how barran the LoZ map is and why there is little to no consistantcy between the geography of these games and the others.

As I have said before, I don't think that there was any planned timline in place during the NES era, but maybe later on Miyamoto wanted to remedy this geography flaw and came up with the idea of a Great Flood.

Now, I havn't played WW yet (I know, criminal, but I never owned a GC- I intend to buy it for the Wii soon), so could somone quickly fill me in on the details of the great flood without giving away too many spoilers. Also, somone mentioned there being an effort to drain the land during WW (or maybe PH). Could somone explain this also- if this is true, I guess it would pretty much soildify the deflooding idea, if Nintendo dicided to put that in.

The story of the flood happened before WW. It's told in the beginning. Basically Ganon escaped from the seal cast on him in OoT and the people thought the Hero of Time would return to stop Ganon...but he didn't come. [because he had been sent back in time to the child timeline]
Thus they prayed to the goddesses, and fled to the mountains and the land was flooded. They started a new life living on the islands [mountaintops] and old Hyrule was pretty much forgotten.

As for the efforts to drain the land, the Koroks [some sort of evolved from of kokiri] plant trees every year that actually create land. They do this in hopes to unite the islands together and from a large forest. It's sorta a defllooding/new land formation combo.

Thanks very much Erimgard.

Well, yes, if Nintendo put into the storyline an effort to restore Hyrule, that confims the deflooding theory for me. Again, I belive that there is an overall, pre-prepared timeline, and I think that the only reason that Nintendo would have put that part of the game in there would be because they had planned that Hyrule would be deflooded.

And, again, it makes sense to me that Loz and Aol would be the deflooded games.

So, I am starting to put together a geography based timeline (obviously this is just a rough idea and subject to change:

Adult Timeline: Oot -- tWW -- Loz -- AoL

Re: Maps...

I personally believe that none of the maps are meant to be tied together; neither does Nintendo, IMO.

It sure is fun to speculate, though.

Re: Maps...

Look closely at the Alttp map and then at the OOT map...Is it possible that maybe the castle town was "Destroyed" in some way and then they moved the castle to the current location of the Lon lon ranch...But that would mean Alttp is played after all the games...But i don't really care about this...Just a theory...Why do we even care about a timeline? We play the games because we think they are fun, Right? So why complicate things like this?

Because some of us think that theorizing is almost as much fun as the games itself!

Yes. It may been sad, pointless, and overall futile, but I think that timeline exploration is a very absorbing subject.

What I really find a pain in the ass is the f'ing sacred grove. I mean, it has to be the same place in TP and ALttp, but geographically they are nowhere even similar. I can't think of any way to twist this around to work. Yes, I suppose that it COULD work in a way that WW flodded everything, then everything became deflooded, resulting in thing getting moved around a bit, but the sacred groove and death mountain at least would have to be in the same place, and they can't even being in consistant places in relation to each other.

Grrr...

Well I don't think there has to be a connection between the Sacred Grove of TP and the Lost Woods of aLttP. I put them in different timelines.
I think the scenery of TP was sorta supposed to be a nostalgic reference to aLttP, but I don't think it has any geographical importance.

Re: Maps...

At Erimgard: You can't really do that, just crossing it off like that. For instance I could say: "I find the Triumph Forks in tMC to be a nostalgic reference to tWW, but any don't think it has any real significance.", and you'd just say that they do have a connection. You can't just write off a major game similarity like that.

Yes we should be carefull when we dismiss such things.
But the Temple of Time manages to jump from one ende of the map to the other inbetween OoT and TP, so the place were the sword rest shouldn't be a problem anyway...
