I'm a bit confused (Flood, TWW backstory)

How exactly did Hyrule flood?

I mean, did suddenly everything freeze in time and then a massive bubble was placed above most of Hyrule, and then rained poured on top of the bubble?

It's obvious that Hyrule Castle and the other land has taken no water damage and that the first time water has touched the actual land is at the end of TWW.

So what happened?

Re: I'm a bit confused (Flood, TWW backstory)

The Godesses probably just caused rain to fall until all Hyrule was underwater. Although, the water itsself isn't very deep. It never takes very long for the grappling hook to hit bottom wherever you drop it from your boat.

There is a dome about Hyrule Castle. Where the dome came from I don't know. I do know that it's all below the Tower of the Gods, so the tower may have something to do with it.

"Torrential downpour from the heavens..." were the exact words, IIRC.

The most likely answer is that the godesses sealed/protected the underwater Hyrule.

Yes I know they flooded it with rain but what was the order of these events?

A portion of Hyrule is very clearly sealed from water and frozen in time. So did the goddesses freeze Hyrule in time and before flooding it?

I would presume Hyrule being frozen in time prevented it from being flooded. (And I would also presume the lapse in time between Hyrule and the Great Sea explains why it doesn't flood immediately after the seal is broken.)

Yes, it does seem that the "freezing" (as witnessed in the castle) occurred before the flooding itself.

Although the stasis appears to be limited to the lowlands, per the game's backstory (the Goddesses telling the Hyrulian population to flee to the mountaintops).

Re: I'm a bit confused (Flood, TWW backstory)

Something that often bothered me was, did the Gods decide to flood Hyrule on their own accord, or was it requested by the King, and if so, how, without the Triforce? And if the Gods did choose to flood it on their own, why did they seal away the Castle, and not just wipe out the land itself, as done later in the game, plus, what was to stop them taking Ganondorf down on their own, rather than abandon and entire land because of him?

A lot of questions I know, but it's been a while since I played the game, and I'm very far away from it now.

P.S. - Another one, at the end of WW, are we to assume the Triforce is 'gone' from the land, now it has been wished upon?

Might be a bit off topic, and I do apologise if so.

I'd never thought about this and think its a good point, I used to think it was much deeper so it would take several decades to flood hyrule, however if the water itself is not so deep, it could explain how TWW happened roughly 100 years post OoT

Re: I'm a bit confused (Flood, TWW backstory)

TWW happens "hundreds of years" after the flood.
The flood, in turn, happens "generations" after Ocarina of Time.

You can guess one of the following:

1) The Triforce returned to its resting place to await a new owner because it was wished upon (you'd then have to assume this in every case, which doesn't bode well for the conditions surrounding AoL or the Oracles).
2) The Triforce returned to its resting place to await a new owner because its previous owner was dead (I argue against this heavily, because it can only grant the wishes of people who are alive to begin with, and Daphnes doesn't suddenly become any more or less alive after using it).
3) The Triforce was bade go somewhere by Daphnes.

Well, I think that the Goddesses do what they do for the necessity of the story. They may not make much sense to humans, but they have reasoning behind their actions. Plus, they do not seem to really care too much about the Hylians since they allowed the Triforce to be used by good guys and bad guys. The Hero sounds like a last-minute fix to take care of problems with the world.

This makes me laugh... in a good way. Makes me think that the Goddesses kinda are like "screw it" and just leave the Hylians be. Much time later they check in to see how their precious people are doing and see how much of a mess things have become, reincarnate Link, and set his Legend in action.

Re: I'm a bit confused (Flood, TWW backstory)

It would make sense for the Goddesses to have a "screw it" attitude. Many Earthly religions have gods that "work in mysterious ways" and leave us to be. And once in a while sends a prophet to help us along a little.
