the sage's timeline and/or lineage
Ok we all know that the sages eventually become the 7 wise men and their were their descendants, the 7 maidens and all that, but their are lot of confusion between OOT, TP, and WW. first off in OOT almost every sage was of different race light-hylian, shadow-sheikah, spirit-gerudo, forest-kokiri, fire-goron, water-zora (and the last sage being zelda but i wont use her since she isnt important as a sage until later)
now the confusion starts when we all know their are descendants from OOT sages because both fado and laruto (WW) imforms link that they were those descendants amoung other sage's that were killed by ganondorf, in which link went to find their predecessors makar and medli. now their is one definite thing that happened and that is the fact that 6 sages had been reduced to 2 to keep the power of the master sword. (and most sage's were slain by ganondorf) aslo two temples were built since all 6 were destroyed by the time WW took place. this is were im confused in tp all the sage's were well almost form-less and wore mask's. now maybe Nintendo was lazy and made these look-a-like sage's or maybe the sages passed on thier duties to these more spiritual beings (since none of the sage reveled what they looked like or defined what race they were) if they were of a race only to later have the OOT descendants pick up were the tp sages left off or maybe these "new" sages are OOT descendants but disguised now my question is really more of an opinion and/or theory what do you think happened to the sages and what do you think is their time line and relation to other sages? |

Re: the sage's timeline and/or lineage
Yeah I thought of this when playing TP. Why aren't they the same as in OoT?
The answer to that is quite simple, I guess. The timeline is split, and the sages from Ocarina of Time (Saria&Co) never awekened as sages. So those ghost like dudes are the old sages.

Re: the sage's timeline and/or lineage
Yup. The TP Sages are probably the first Sages or whatever, and in the AT (Adult Timeline), Ganondorf probably killed them all, requiring the HoT to awaken new ones.
As for there being two Sages by the time of TWW, I'm pretty sure there were meant to be two extra dungeons (in Fire Mountain and Ice Ring Isle, in which the dungeon treasures were going to be the Power Bracelets and the Iron Boots) that were cut due to time constraints, so there were probably meant to be two more Sages that we just never got to see. |

Re: the sage's timeline and/or lineage
Aonuma said that Twilight Princess occurs on the child timeline, not the adult timeline.

Re: the sage's timeline and/or lineage
TP occurring at the same "time" as WW makes sense, what with the numerous parallels you can find between the two of them.
Also, I have heard this theory that the TP Sages are projections from somewhere else (Sacred Realm?) of the other sages. That does not make much sense though, what with the whole Sage Zelda debacle.

Re: the sage's timeline and/or lineage
I've argued that idea. As we see in Ocarina of Time, each race seems to select a Sage on its own (Zelda's father has grouped them together and appointed a "Seventh Sage" as their leader, apparently a royal or noble, as Zelda herself is the Seventh Sage of her generation). In Twilight Princess, all of them appear to be Hylian men. Not only that, they appear to stay on their podiums when not doing anything, and they are highly stylized, their faces and limbs detached. They appear to be spirits. On top of that, Rauru appears to live in the Chamber of Sages in the Sacred Realm in Ocarina of Time (he never leaves it and is the last Sage of his generation alive), and the Sages can astral project, even from beyond the grave, as Fado and Laruto do in The Wind Waker. Perhaps the Sages traditionally serve their sentences in the Sacred Realm on the child timeline, and astral project these images, regardless of race or gender, to the Arbiter's Grounds to carry out sentences. This explains why they "rest" on their podiums (the images are not in use), and the Sage of Water is killed because Ganondorf destroys them through their astral projection, as he is so strong. I like this idea because it explains why the Sages, who were probably originally racial leaders, all look like Hylian men, and why they appear like spirits.

Re: the sage's timeline and/or lineage
Totally possible. The Ocarina of Time Sages may or may not have served in the adult timeline (although they are immortalized in stained glass in The Wind Waker), but even if they had, too much time would have passed for them to still be alive.
