The Korok Confusion

Ok, so i'm a little confused here. In OoT, when the Kokiri leave the the Kokiri Forest, they die, correct? Well, how come in WW, they've moved out of the Kokiri Forest, and are still living? They even travel across the great sea, but they don't seem to die. Why is this? My theory is that when they evolved into the Koroks, they changed from a child, to a leaf. And that must have trigured something that made them not die when they leave the forest.

Re: The Korok Confusion

The Kokiri are protected by the power of the Great Deku Tree. Thus, if the Kokiri leave his protection, then they can be killed out in the open. The death point is not meant to be strict, and we even see Kokiri outside of the forest in OoT's ending.

As far as I understand it, Kokiri will inevitably die if they leave the forest, but they also only die when they leave the forest. They will not die immediately; they just become mortal.

Re: The Korok Confusion

And because the koroks carry the seeds of the Deku Tree, I would assume that the ancient trees' magic would still apply so long as they remain next to these newborn trees. One might also assume the 'mortal' rule didn't apply when the Kokiri took on the new shapes of the Koroks.

Re: The Korok Confusion

Well, since Kokiri Forest is like Eden, it makes sense that the Kokiri can leave without immediately dying. It's like Adam and Eve being told that they will die if they ate the Fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. It was a consequence, just not an immediate one.

Plus, the whole "dying" thing might be propaganda on the part of the Deku Tree to keep them in line, but that would be crazy . . .

I've always fancied this approach to the theory.

The Deku Tree (being a kind and wise being) would want to protect these innocent little forest children. To protect them it would be simplest to tell them about them dying if they left the forest and about the creatures that lie just outside their walls. Of course this is the opposite of selfish, he just wants what's best for them. Considering the kokiri can't fight then it's best that they stay with the tree.

Whoa, hold up there: they can't fight? Isn't it here that Link got access to a sword and shield? How does that synch up with them being too peaceful?

Re: The Korok Confusion

What does that mean? When I searched its text dump, I found this:
Quote:
This is a hidden treasure of
the Kokiri, but you can borrow it
for a while. Be sure to practice
with it before you really fight!
That does not sound like a symbol: it sounds like a treasure. Plus, they were selling shields that needed some use.

Re: The Korok Confusion

Well we have a few things that Kokiri turn into for sure.

Being lost in the woods turns them into one of those scarecrow children...yep forgot the name again.
Leaving the forest completly...we don't know what happens then, they could possible die, but there's no proof of this, they probably just turn into the scarechild again honestly.
No interaction with people and they turn into the Koroks...start to show more of a wood spirit physique.
Contact with people and they turn into the Kokiri children...or they keep that form...either way.

What we don't know is what they will look like after TP...personally I think they'll still turn into the koroks eventually, due to their seclusion.

Re: The Korok Confusion

The dying part is a myth. Mido (Self proclaimed boss of the kokiri) we see in the ending outside of the kokiri forest not dead.

Problem solved.

Re: The Korok Confusion

I don't think it's the Deku Tree that protects them. In OoT, there's a seven year gap where there is no Deku Tree, but none of the Kokiri are dead, or seem to be affected when you return at any time between then. I think it's literally the magic of the forest, and possibly even magic within the Kokiri themselves!

Wow Pinecove hero to the theorists.

If you checked, we were discussing the meaning of the death statement. The Deku Tree was probably referring to the Kokiri becoming mortal when they leave the safety of the forest. Mido only proves that they don't die instantly.

Well probelem solved anyway. If all the Kokiri needed were to get to the top of the great sea it wouldn't take that long. You could also say that the place on the great see in TWW known as forest haven provides the same protection as the GDT did in OoT.

Long story short...

-Great flood happenes.
-Kokiri flee to a distant island bringing a great deku sampling with them...
-GDT gives same protection to them in forest haven as they had in Kokiri forest.

I always thought it was something the Deku Tree told them to protect them.

Thee are 4 at the celibrations at the end (in lon lon ranch),
I think the Deku tree is just like an over protected parent, making up lies to make sure his children dont wonder off and get lost and hurt.
