(Revised a bit) Midna's Ancestry. [Long read, some spoilers] Theories of Her Race.
You've probably seen this before, if you're visiting this page, but either way, I decided to tweak the theory just a tiny bit, making the points more sharp, more clear, but the stupid 90 minute-rule prevented me from saying anything useful. Either way, I'd like to introduce you to my Great Theory.
All of you who have played through the game up to Midna's confession of her bloodline know that she comes from a tribe of people who disappeared off the face of Hyrule, and were turned into the strangely-formed, (Yet very pretty-looking, if I do say so myself) humanoids we all know and love as the Twili. These peoples used Shadow Magic to run their newfound kingdom. They were beings of Shadow. Now, Midna's helm she wears that greatly increases her strength is a form of HER CLAN'S MAGIC. This is extremely important. It was stated clearly it was used by the Twili, (Then, they were probably Hylians, or some other familiar race) to try and declare dominion over the Sacred Realm. This was shattered and spread into the far reaches of Hyrule, so their then-"Evil" magic would never be used to harm people again. This was stated by Lanayru's explanation during the creepy cutscene which didn't make much sense at some parts, such as dozens of Ilias falling from the sky giggling. (Which greatly reminds me of End of Evangelion... If any of you know what I mean, you felllow Anime freaks, you.) If I recall correctly, Midna herself said it was made, and used by her clan. My mind could be distracted by other things, but I'm 3487% (Not a random number =P) sure that it was explained that the Fused Shadow was created by the Twili. This is also backed up by the other Twili. Zant, as we all know, has a similar headwear that has designs of the snake, and large eyes. Also, every Twili who was altered by Zant, (The ones with similar headwear), and Zant himself have helmets that are made of the same stone, and were created by some magic. (Not confirmed for Zant though.) We can logically draw this conclusiion because Zant used magic to turn the Twili into the mosters they were then, and the helm is part of the transformation, since it disappears when the Sols wash their bodies of taint with its light. Now, after close study of Midna's helmet, Nintendo gave us a hint of where this may be coming from. Think, for a moment, if you will. The SHADOW beings are Twili. They created an entire race, after being banished to the Twilight Realm. They were certainly not created by three Dark Links, who could not have reproduced, anyway. There must have been a large group. There HAD to be, or else their combined strength would not have been enough to even ATTEMPT to control completely the awesome power of the Triforce. What if, since their numbers had to be a factor, some got away? What if a small, small, incredibly small portion of their people managed to hide before being sent to the Twilight Realm? These people still had magic running throught their veins due to their practices, and could very well be formidable foes when faced by enemies of their own. And they had to be stealthy, or they couldn't stay in hiding forever. Here comes Nintendo's hint: http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/1764/midnafr2.png On the back of Midna's helmet, is a familiar symbol. There is an eye with three rectangular eyelashes. I am very certain that Midna is descendant of the Sheikah. You can see the symbol if it's zoomed-up enough on your wolf form, and when you sit down too long, Midna turns around, and her hair flies out of the way when she returns to her normal sitting position, and you can breifly see the mark on the bottom-center part on the back of her helm. Sound weird? I'll piece this puzzle together for you. There is a semi-Sheikah symbol on the back of Midna's helm, which was created before the banishment of her race. The blood-red color, and the tear streaming out of the eye aren't there yet. And the conversion of straight, almost normal-looking eyelashes into what seems like three Triforces couldn't have come just out of random. There may have been a Sheikah involved with the interlopers. Furthermore, Zelda has an apparently Twili-made cloak with the Sheikah symbol on it. The markings are modern Sheikah. It was made after the capturing of the Twili, and Midna's was made before the capture. Midna's have all the modern markings, so we will dub this the "Ancient Sheikah" symbol. The Sheikah could have been disgusted by this treachery, and shaped their symbol the way it is because of that betrayal. (Which is expresed in a Zelda manga, though not really relevant in this or any theory, might add a bit of possibility) This could explain why the Sheikah were so attached to the Royal family, maybe repenting for their family member's betrayal. One Sheikah betraying the family could have been a severe attack on their, (As I've heard =P) honorable nature. This makes almost-foolproof sense when you consider the circumstances. In OoT: The Sheikah were said to have been sworn to the Royal Family The Sheikah were skilled in Stealth, (For possible hiding from Hyrule's wrath), and it wasn't specified where their race came from A Sheikah is the Sage of SHADOWS. Sound familiar? The Sheikah had red eyes The Sheikah were referred to as the "Shadows of the Hylians", possibly reffering to their temporary banishment, and life as second-class citizens bound to the Royal Family's wishes, and dabbling in Shadow magic. (Such as Ilia reffering to Impaz's home as an imprisonement.) Indeed, the Sheikah were excelled in magic, what with popping up out of nowhere, and disappearing in a flash, which would literally require you to travel at the speed of light, or blind the target good enough, which, is extremely hard to do without a good enough light to blind nearby people, which the Deku Nuts didn't have. ______________________________________________ Twilight Princess: A very important fact here, the sages say, "You seek it, but the Mirror of Twilight has been fragmented by mighty magic. That magic is a dark power that only he possesses. His name is… Ganondorf. He was once the leader of a band of thieves who invaded Hyrule in the hopes of establishing dominion over the Sacred Realm. He was known as a demon thief, an evil-magic wielder renowned for his ruthlessness…" This implies that the Twili were indeed people, but it was mostly the Gerudo that fought the war. A Sheikah could be involved, one could not. This is just a theory. Midna's true form, and her altered form has red eyes The Twili were supposably regular people of Hyrule to go unnoticed so long, but were transformed when they were exiled into the Twilight Realm. Since their race would be generally distrusted , it makes perfect sense they'd be willing to make a pact. The Twilight Realm is supported and run by weilders of Shadow magic. Midna's helm has a (theorized) "Ancient Sheikah" symbol on it. The Sheikah were saddened, and the betrayal would be nothing short of enraging Extremely important, backing up the symbology of the statements said! ![]() If you look closely at the blue markings on the back of the wall, you can plainly see that they are extraordinarily similar to the Sheikah symbol, having an eye with a tear-like pattern flowing from it. What I am saying now, is that the Gerudo indeed were involved in this war, but there had to be a Sheikah in there somewhere. Why else all the Twili-Evidenced references to the Sheikah in the Twilight Realm? Midna is probably descendant of one of those Sheikah, and as a result of her noble blood, she was the true ruler over the others. Thus, explaining her red eyes, and the less-human forms of the other Twili, who all had white eyes. Of course, I'm also wondering how exactly the Gerudo fit into the Twili if most of the Twili are male. It'd take a complete reverse of the genetics that we know the Gerudo by. It says that the Gerudo did try to establish dominion over the Twilight Realm, but then why lack of females? It fits almost perfectly! You'd probably like it if I said I was done, but NO! I have more, regarding Majora's Mask. In Majora's Mask, Link is sent into an anti-Hyrule, where everyone is a different version of the Hylians, or whichever race they come from. Majora's Mask was supposably made by an ancient tribe which used it in its hexing rituals, but were vanished from the Earth. Majora's Mask COULD have been the anti-Fused Shadow, and that tribe which sealed it away in SHADOW. In fact, the fused shadow-helm had the eye in the exact same design as Majora's Masks' eye. The ancient tribe could have been the anti-Sheikah/Original Twili, and instead of being banished, the anti-plot was that the anti-fused shadow's power grew too great, and the entire tribe locked it away in shadow. They eventually disappeared. Instead, the +Fused Shadow, could be controlled, but at the cost, banished its tribe to the Twilight Realm. Now before you start yelling, "Termina is just a neighboring country, and Nintendo reuses models a lot!" I have something to say about that. Link entered a corridor that spun, defied gravity, and was found in a place where dimensions are unheard of, and you can enter one door, and come out of the door you started in. There were people that looked EXACTLY like the Hylians of OoT. Even if Nintendo was being lazy, it'd be EXTREMELY unlikely that people'd be born exactly the same in a neighboring country. This had to be an alternate world, or history, since the Terminans favored technology over Gods. The Goddesses could have created it severely hidden as a test-world, if you will, and if it was successful, they'd join it together with Hyrule. But that's just another theory. Read the rest. Majora's Mask: Patterns on Mask greatly similar in some ways to the Fused Shadow Tribe disappeared suddenly, after sealing away the mask in Shadow Had great, evil power, and possesed wearer; was created by a unique race _______________________________________________ Fused Shadow: Patterns similar to Majora's Mask, in some ways, and has Sheikah-like symbol on it. Tribe was banished to a different Realm, never to be seen by Hylians until Link arrived Helm had great, but terrible power, and could be controlled freely _______________________________________________ Similarities: http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/9...msymbolfx6.png If you think that there isn't even enough involvement with the Sheikah to draw this conslusion, look closer: http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/2...sheikahau9.png This symbol is everywhere! Don't you think Shigeru's team might have picked this specific game to try and uncover a bit of the Sheikah to us? It fits! Do you see it!? The ancient tribe had to have been the anti-Sheikah/Twili! Instead of being banished, though, they disappeared of a different reason! As is the plot in Majora's Mask. People born in either side are similar, but have different fates! Sheik wearing his outfit with the classic Sheik symbol can be found here: http://www.zeldadungeon.net/Zelda05/...ters/Sheik.jpg The "It just represents evil" conflict: If it represented evil, then why would it be on a sword that once apparently saved all of Hyrule? IF the symbol truly represented evil, it wouldn't be so helpful. The Four Sword has this symbol on the guard of the sword. Simply speaking, I think there was a Sheikah in the group. Thank you for reading! Comment to your heart's desire! Sahaqiel

Re: (Revised a bit) Midna's Ancestry. [Long read, some spoilers] Theories of Her Race.
Thanks for saying that! You don't know how many people have flamed me for this, or said something negative about the Majora's Mask section. Well, I got bored one day, and I noticed the symbol on the back of Midna's helm, and it kinda' created a domino effect from there. Some things I picked up along from there, but most of these things sprang up from memory, and I repeated using the almighty internet. And there's only one typo, there, methinks. It's not noticeable, so I don't really care =P

Re: (Revised a bit) Midna's Ancestry. [Long read, some spoilers] Theories of Her Race.
This is a great effort, but don't think it is correct.
1) The Fused Shadows depicts an eye, like Agahnim's robe, the Shadow Temple walls, and even Vaati. The Sheikah symbol depicts an eye with a tear, and this detail is important. The eye symbol by itself is used in connection with evil objects and characters, hence we can deduce that it is the Evil Eye. The Sheikah are dedicated to sealing evil, hence they are the guardians of the Shadow Temple and the evil spirit Bongo Bongo. Because of this, the Sheikah symbol depicts the Evil Eye with a tear, to show that they hurt evil (alternatively, the Sheikah symbol has also been used as an eye of foresight). This leads me to my second point... 2) Although the Sheikah have been referred to as the Shadow Tribe, their power and nature have always been to protect Hyrule from Darkness, never to serve it or control Hyrule. I have heard stories of betrayal and evil history, but frankly the Sheikah have always been honourable from what the games tell us. As such, there is no evidence that the Sheikah are connected to the Twili. However, the front of Zant's robe does show a version of the Gerudo symbol. Since the Gerudo have been traditionally connected to Darkness, and TWW provided a motive for the Gerudo coveting Hyrule (Ganondorf's back story refers to the wind bringing life to the Hylians, but death to the Gerudo), they were much more likely candidates in becoming the Twili's ancestors. |

Re: (Revised a bit) Midna's Ancestry. [Long read, some spoilers] Theories of Her Race.
Did... You... READ... What I said?
Why exactly do you think it'd be the Evil Eye if it was on the Four Sword? The Four Sword saved Hyrule, did you not read that part? Yes, the Gerudo symbol is on Zant's robe, even before meeting Ganondorf, but I forgot to add other essential things, such as the much likely possibility that there were also Gerudos in the interlopers' group. Also, there isn't evidence in any Zelda game that says the Sheikah were always honorable. And the betrayal thing could have served as another reason this may be true, but it came from Zelda manga, which isn't canon, therefore it has no base in Zelda history. The Sheikah symbol hasn't ever represented foresight... Foresight is another form of foreshadowing, except that it actually lets you see what will happen. A "Sight into the future" is almost foresight's exact meaning. The Lens of Truth, and the Mask of Truth are both Sheikah-made, so it really isn't alternative... Impa wasn't a guardian of the Shadow temple, she was the Sage of the temple. Confusing words can greatly confuse the issue itself. It never says they seal darkness, the games merely say that they protect the Hylian Royal Family. Also, the Gerudo were never connected to darkness. It merely says that they were thieves. GANONDORF is MUCH connected to darkness, but don't be a stereotyper, where just because one of them is evil, all of them automatically are. I'm not saying this is true. I'm saying this is incredibly likely. Take a look at the pictures. All of them. Also, the most important picture besides the helmet one it the symbol behind Midna's throne. TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT IT. THERE IS AN EXTREMELY VAST AMOUNT OF EVIDENCE POINTING AT THE SHEIKAH BEING THE ANCESTORS OF THE TWILI AS STATED ABOVE. 'Nuff said. Twili Knight - A.K.A. Sahaqiel |

Quote:
But we assume she didn't because she is a kind and honorable Princess. Why is she honorable and kind you may ask? She always has hope for her people She would sacrifice herself instead of having them all slaughtered like lambs. Now why would such a kind and honorable Princess take the form of someone that wasn't always kind and honorable in Ocarina of Time? Impa, Impaz and Zelda in disguise are all honorable shiekah fighting for the side of good against that of evil. Impa - helped the hero of time. Impaz - helped the chosen hero and guarded Kakriko until the messenger arrived. Zelda - has helped nearly every hero. To assume otherwise would be quite preposterous. Preposterous indeed. |

Re: (Revised a bit) Midna's Ancestry. [Long read, some spoilers] Theories of Her Race.
Again, you all stereotype! Just because a few of them had a specific trait, it doesn't mean they all did! They have brains, for crying out loud, and by whatever power there is over us all, brains are meant to have differences! There could be one with an unusual mind! Or more! Heck, that trait could have come from preventing any such incident like the Great War from happening again!
(Nice logic, though , you and I are both sarcastic in many ways XD )We logically assume that you're part of Din's Clan, because of your choice, and your icon under your name, yet you're title states that you are a sage of Wisdom, correct? Then why, for heaven's sake, aren't you in Nayru's clan? Just regard the theory. All of it. Please? Twili Knight - A.K.A. Sahaqiel |

When you will take an obvious, accepted conclusion and then neglect it just to prove your theory which is not obviously correct nor is it accepted by the multitudes, that is just bad theorizing. I suggest you step back, look at the 'evidence' you have compiled, take a second or third look at the games and make a theory that can be proven without the use of 'could' 'what if' and 'perhaps'. |

Re: (Revised a bit) Midna's Ancestry. [Long read, some spoilers] Theories of Her Race.
And here is where our similarites part. (Besides our use of italics in the first sentence)
You are taking all of this much too seriously. You are saying that it is preposterous because of "What ifs" and "could be", in a THEORY section of a forum! We are here to theorize! This is not bad theorizing. Take a minute, and absorb the things thrown at you, and maybe you'll find out that being hit isn't so bad. I never neglected this, or I wouldn't still try to make it better! No theory is obviously correct! Theories can be unpopular, yet still turn out to be true! And HOW in the world is a theory good if accepted by the multitudes!? Quote:
Quote:
And it's very hard to make a theory without "What ifs". A perso once told be that asking "What if" meant you never wanted an answer. This is completely untrue. "What if rulers were one inch longer?" "Then they'd be thirteen inches long." Hard? I think not. Actually make a relevant point. Point out what WASN'T a good theory, and evaluate the reasons for thinking so! I'm wondering why so many people can't give me a straight answer today? Sahaqiel

Re: (Revised a bit) Midna's Ancestry. [Long read, some spoilers] Theories of Her Race.
Well for starters:
You are unable to prove that the Shiekah were ever a bad race while I have provided enough in-game evidence to prove that there is no reason to think that they were ever bad. Can I ask where this notion of the 'evil shiekah' came about? It is not something that the average gamer would assume after playing Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. And when I was referring to the multitudes I wasn't referring to popularity. An example is when the linear timeline existed, it was assumed that the sages removed Ganondorf from the Sacred Realm to be executed. This was an assumption which had absolutely no in-game evidence to prove it nor did the multitudes support it. I never said it couldn't be right, its just that the idea is so preposterous that it could not be proved by evidence or by mass opinion. |

Re: (Revised a bit) Midna's Ancestry. [Long read, some spoilers] Theories of Her Race.
Listen, I thank you for calming down a bit, but this is a theory! For crying out loud, this is what some people think might be true, and thus wrote it down, and here we are!
For starters: The Sheikah have an unusual bond with the Hylian family. Swearing all of their children to eventually have to protect another family with their lives? That bond can't be just out of random, could it? Even if it was with the starting of a monarchy! There had to be a major event that made them do this. The Twilit Sheikah symbol on the back of Midna's throne would be an infinitelly unlikely coincidence to have been put there. And of course! We all know that a theory can't be proven just because everyone thinks it is! That's a horrible way to think! (I'm sorry, I need to put a reference to a book here, and it may as well be humourous. You know. Lighten the atmosphere) Quote:
Which is a mistake, for many. But yes, I can't prove for certain that the Sheikah had malevolent begginnings. (Be a little nicer, please? ._.;; ) Twili Knight - A.K.A. Sahaqiel |

Re: (Revised a bit) Midna's Ancestry. [Long read, some spoilers] Theories of Her Race.
This is gold!!! I've been entertianing the idia but I've never had enough evidence to prove it.
But what if (as I believe) Termina is NOT an alternant demention, but a country bordering Hyrule? Then this backs up your theory even more. (Theorizing) The majority of the Sheikah lived in Termina, only a few lived in Hyrule. The Terminan Twili (who were called the Ikana by the Terminan Hylians) made Majoras Mask and used it to take over Termina, but acidently destroyed part of thier population with it. The servivers, thinking that the Triforce could bring back thier civilization, forged the Fused Shadows and marched to the nieboring nation of Hyrule, only a few stayed in Termina. Eventuly, Kafie would come from the small group who stayed, thus explaining his red eyes. The main group lost its war with Hyrule, were banished and the rest is history. The Sheikah that were living in Hyrule pledged themselves to Hyrule, founded Kakarico, and added the tear to thier emblem. Hows that?

A little common sense goes a long way people. Please. Why does neither country even mention the other. Why does nobody in Termina exercise the idea of fleeing back to Hyrule when the moon gets really close? Why when Link walks to Termina through that tunnel, it spins, gets foggy and the lighting changes? It's not a country bordering Hyrule. lol And I've been told many times to calm down, but never by someone who used caps lock in his post lol. Please people. use common sense and don't be hypocrites like Twili Knight. Thanks Average Gamer! |
