Volvagia

I have recently unearthed a claim that in the Zelda Collector's Edition disc, a boss in AoL that was named Barba has been renamed Volvagia. Is this true, and what effect does it have on the timeline?

Re: Volvagia

I don't think it has any bearing on the Timeline.
According to wikipedia Volvagia was the original name in japan, but changed for the US to Barba.

For all we know, when they made OOT,they probably decided to use volvagia because they thought no would would know/notice...

Any further ideas?

if that is true, than AoL might come before OoT. Volvagia in OoT was revived by Ganondorf so the Volvagia(barba) in AoL must be the real one.

Re: Volvagia

Volvagia was destroyed by a Goron hero before OoT, though.

Of course, if we jumped the gun every time bosses made multiple appearances, we'd be pretty screwed as far as any timeline.

That's a fair point but I believe this may be an exception, owing to the fact that OoT explicitly refers to Volvagia being defeated previously. It's quite strange, really, given all the indications that AoL is some time AFTER OoT.

You didn't beat Barba with a Hammer, though. :/

*remembers* I just remembered that Barba is a descendant of Volvagia... so its not the original one...

Is it? Where did you find that out?

Re: Volvagia

ZU's home page says it. Then again, ZU's homepage was written by members of ZU, not Nintendo.

Re: Volvagia

Hmm. The reason the idea interests me is because LoZ and AoL being before OoT is not terribly objectionable to me - it would make the Sleeping Princess tragedy the first in the timeline again, and FSA's reference to Ganon as 'an ancient demon reborn' would be explained. Nevertheless, it WOULD contradict Aonouma's claim that FS is the first.

Re: Volvagia

I do not think that this alone could justify placing LoZ/AoL before OoT. The towns named after sages would seem to indicate a place after OoT, placing them on the Adult Timeline . . . that is, if we are trying to base our timelines on the bare game canon, instead of interviews where they said that OoT predates LoZ/AoL (though maybe not in so many words).

True that. I only brought this up as it was strange, considering that AoL is probably after OoT. It's the only time I can think of that a boss is mentioned to have been defeated before (other than Ganon himself, of course).

Re: Volvagia

Ganon, Volvagia, Vaati, Bongo Bongo, suggested origins of the Nightmares (and all other monsters, really) in LA, etc. etc. I think I'm forgetting one, too. Oh well.

The Nightmares had been previously defeated? Though I'll give you Bongo Bongo, Ganon and Vaati's stories of previous defeats actually DO affect game placements in the timeline.

Re: Volvagia

All Nightmares (that is, forms of Dethl), save the final form, had been bosses in previous games. A number of the bosses of LA had been bosses in other games, too (thinking of the Moldorm, specifically).
