I hate timelines.
Who else is sick of all the timeline theories going around? I look at some threads that are talking about specific games and there'll be a post that states "This game sucks because it dosn't fit the timeline!"
This pisses me off. A game is designed to have fun, not for you to argue CONSTANTLY With others who think OOT comes before TWW or whatever. And if there is one con that is not worth mentioning, "this game was no good because it dosn't fit my timeline theory" is it. How can you justify telling someone not to play a game, as it doesn't fit a timeline theory you made up, having nothing supporting it besides your own reasoning? If your going to make a timeline theory, keep it in the thread. Only a couple of people are going to care, and they will disagree with you so stop trying to persuade us.

Re: I hate timelines.
No, i'm seeing a lot of this as well. To be frank, I dont give a damn in which order the games are supposedly meant to be in. Why people make such big deals of it and even ' preach' it is beyond me.

Re: I hate timelines.
I do not mind timeline theorising at all.
I don't really have an interest in it myself, but I don't mind it at all that other people do. What I do greatly dislike, is the idiotic self-assumed authority that most timeliners seem to wrongly believe they have over other members - which is especially evident in the main groups there. It's fine discussing what games take place in which order, but you get the few fools who dedicate the theorising to an extent where it seems that their lives depend on it, then create huge threads about all the minor events in their lives caused by theorising, which I assume is a classic cry for sympathy and attention when someone else disproves their theory. A good few do not accept the opinions of others for the sake of believeing their own lines to be true, when in fact, they're not. Basically, what irks me the most is that none of the timeliners seem to realise that all of their ever-so-carefully created theories are nothing but elaborate little stories that are in no way 100% true. Sure, there are distinct sign-post game placements, such as MM takes places directly after OoT, but when they convince themselves their own theory is more valid than someone else's, it annoys me. And the recent two or three people that declare themselves as being "anti-canon" simply because they're too anal to accept that their theory was disputed by canon information make me laugh. THose people, above all else, are what annoy - ultimately, it's not the theorising that annoys me, it's the arrogance of the people that theorise. That said, there are plenty of people that respectfully and humbly post their theories, being open minded and respectful to criticsm to their own theories, as well as to others' theories. Hats off to those people - if only all the debators were like them. |

Re: I hate timelines.
I think they can be interesting, but as long as people don't bring them into every other thread. The debates can be pretty entertaining, I never take part but I enjoy reading theories sometimes. As long as people understand these are theories, and dragging them into other threads as fact is just annoying.

Re: I hate timelines.
Can you please show us all an example to even merit the creation of this thread and poll? Personally I've never witnessed it. lol I'm all for timeline theorizing being kept in the timeline & theories sub-forum and the new Bombers Club should definitely help with this problem, if indeed it is a problem so you really have no need to worry.
I don't see why debating timelines are any less amazing or liked than perhaps debating the existence of god or the removal of troops from countries. Each side debates what they think is best even though there obviously isn't a 100% correct answer. Before you criticize theorists make sure that you've got the appropriate foundation for such statements. But for the most part I'll agree with SD lol. It's not so much the theories, but the people that theorize. Of course from here on forth it is merely personal preference regarding whom people think are the problems and who aren't. |

Re: I hate timelines.
I hate people without capitalized names! It annoys me so much. Lets kill them all!
Oh, and most of the people you described tend to be noobs with new join dates, hardly any post counts, and don't have much knowledge. If you look at the UWM or ASE, those are the real timeline theorists, as are people that have been here for awhile. Its not our fault some people are just retarded. We do keep it in the timeline section. If you don't go there, talk doesn't come out of it too much.

(but honestly I don't believe you think you are better than anyone). There's also not too much trouble and the drama is a must in the field of theorizing. |

The "as are people who've been here for awhile" is directed at people like darthcucco, Lex, Drzaius1, and others that left a group or never went in one. Newer members do tend to come in and be the ones that aren't as experienced. (Or, haven't learned to use the search engine) Who are these members you speak of?

Re: I hate timelines.
Just to announce - this thread will not be used for finger pointing at people - that's sheer nastiness.
The moment that happens, I'll lock the thread. So - no need for specific member examples. ![]() Quote:
The 'powers' are to handle the mess. Mods are not to be feared. The banner does nothing, other than indicate that we are a mod, and even then, before it was fixed to us, other mods such as myself, never wore our banners, s not to intimidate people. |
