Another Majoras mask question :P

Alright.
I'm gonna ask this question, and someone's gonna point me out as being wrong and a bit stupid, but here goes:

Why is it, that in MM Link doesn't remember ANY of his previous songs, such as Epona's song, which you'd have thought would he'd know (since he's riding Epona at the beginning).

So, any logical answers would be appreciated.

I don't take it literally on those points. It's probably just like that for the sake of playing the game. What if you played Majora's Mask before Ocarina of Time?

Like Elienkae it is for the sake of playing. Because there may be people who did not played OOT or are playing MM first. So it would be kinda wrong to not teach you the song just because you learned before you begun your journey

Basically, gameplay mechanics. Link probably knows some of the songs already, but it would be very weird to start the game with the notes already in your possession. They had to take them away and then implement them into the game in a regular fashion so it would make more sense. So the best answer is gameplay mechanics. I don't think that there's any story connection.

Gameplay is the real world answer, but if we're looking for possible in-game reasons, here's a thought: Link was thrown off his horse and otherwise beaten and battered at the beginning of the game, maybe he hit his head and has partial amnesia?

In-universe, Epona's Song only works because she's usually grazing in the immediate vicinity, and can come running once she hears it. Ergo, there's no point in playing the song before you find her again, because she's not actually around to hear it.

It's weird that people will accept relearning songs in MM because a newbie player would think it weird that Link already knows Eponas song, song of time, song of storms, but when ever the scene when Zelda introduces herself in OoX is mentioned we are to assume Link and Zelda have never met. Couldn't the latter be an element of the game meant to introduce Zelda to a newbie player, yet Link and Zelda would clearly know each other if OoX Link was the same as ALttP Link.

Yes, MMis the explicit sequel to OoT while OoX was not said to be a sequel or prequel to any games on its release, so perhaps that is all the difference there needs to be discount the comparison, but HH still puts OoX right in between ALttP and LA, most likely all starring the same Link and Zelda.

I always chalked it to being solely for the player. Link already knows Epona's Song, so he knows just what to play to get her to calm down and come. He knows the Song of Storms and the Song of Time, the latter being him remembering it and using it as a last ditch attempt to save himself.

Yeah I think the comic book (or manga) shows this, at the point he didn't even know why he was in the Lost Woods (and presumably he also lost all Ocarina of Time and posterior memories, he was a normal child ).

He actually got his head hit twice (both when falling from Epona) hard enough to leave him unconscious for about 2 minutes or so (obiously gameplay doesn't explicitly shows you this because having you watching a body for 2 minutes wouldn't make sense), so it would be reasonable for him to have amnesia.
