You know, sprinkling one's ashes into the sky seems like the most logical thing to do in Skyloft. It could be a way of connecting closer with the gods than just burying the body on Skyloft.
And maybe the 9 graves are of the people who knew the prophecy of the hero.
Most of the deceased's corpses are probably thrown off of Skyloft than none other than the lovely Zelda herself. In all seriousness, I assume that they burn the bodies of the deceased and scatter the ashes down to the world below. One very notable question is, was Ganondorf's body just left standing in the middle of Hyrule Field after Twilight Princess? That's that last place he is seen with no indication that they got rid of his out-in-the-open body. I do assume it was burned as well, however. Or buried in Gerudo Desert for symbolic reasons.

Her grace i actually think Ganondorf could have been buried where he died like most people who die in battle. That of the ashes could be true. So maybe the 9 graves are of the people who knew the prophecy of the hero. So they got the honor of being buried in Skyloft.
Since they are way up in the clouds and the island is relatively safe I assume most people who die do it out over the clouds where there is no way to recover their corpse. If some old guy has a heart attack and dies way out in the southwest from skyloft, his bird aint gonna catch him and bring him all the way back for a burial.
How weird if youre wandering around down on the surface and a corpse falls on you XD
It's not weird is ultra weird and what would people do far from Skyloft. When the only nice places to be is the lumpy pumpkin and fun fun island. That explanation would be good for beedle that when he was pedaling he suffer a heart attack and he felt down to the surface in his shop.
I bet they need the nutrients, theres no accretion of new topsoil other than the trees. Maybe they cut their dead up and mix them in with the mulch all over the island as fertilizer?
You guys need to realise just how weak the Wii is--this isn't the goddammed Elder Scrolls. The kingdom of Skyloft is much bigger than what we really see.

Skyloft was already a great place for planting. Skyloft is a paradise it's said by Gorko the goron. So they wouldn't need to do that.
Well there are plenty of islands in the sky, and probably many more than they show us in the game. The graves on skyloft could have been for the very first people who died, or the more important people, like other said. Then they could have buried the others on other islands, with no gravestone because they ran out of stone. After all, there can't be that much stone in the sky unless u wanted to completely take apart islands, which I'm sure the environmentalists of skyloft would be opposed to
just a theory
Haha, this thread is funny. Nintendo problably thought "Oh wait, don't forget the graveyard! I think we have a corner left where we can place it. How many graves fit, 9? Sure, roll with it."
And then a year later some Zelda fans are confused, puzzled, frustrated and disappointed because they can't figure out where all the dead people went.
They don't have a lot of space in the sky and probably wouldn't waste some of the percious floating ground on a proper, big graveyard. Don't know who the nine graves are for though, the important people theory sounds good.
Just dumping bodies over the edge seems pretty harsh. Could you do that to someone's body? I couldn't. Cremation and scattering ashes to the wind sounds reasonable and kind of nice to me. That's what I'd do if I lived there. And then write the names on a plaque somewhere, that could be where you'd take candles and stuff. Maybe there'd be a wall full of names of the long gone at the temple or something.
That's hilarious. Even more the second time! XD It's the ba da da daaaa close to the end that makes it. lol
But yeah, I'd guess they probably just have mostly cremations and maybe those few graves are for the really important people.
