Why would it have to be abortion? Why couldn't it be "what happens if Link was dropped as a baby and he died? Or someone killed him before the events of Oot?"
Well if the potential hero of whatever where to be aborted or whatever, there could probably be another hero like the Hero of Winds (Wind Waker Link) Or the Spirit of the Hero (Skyward Sword Link) who has to go through numerous trials in order to save the land.
Oh and dont ask then what if there was no one because all the men were cowards or untrained or all the female Hylians decided to abort and kill their sons because they want a female hero to save the land of Hyrule for the sake of sexual equality instead of piece...
I posit that the Spirit of the Hero will warp reality, if necessary, to ensure that its incarnations actually get born. Therefore, "what would happen if a Hero got aborted" is a nonsensical question, like asking what a square circle looks like. Once the new Hero is born, though, all bets are off.

Demise says otherwise. But anyway, you're not thinking meta enough. There are two Heroes in TP, yes, but they would both be aspects of the greater Hero Spirit. Just like how in Avatar: The Last Airbender Aang is the current incarnation of the Avatar, but is still able to commune with the spirits of his previous incarnations.
Really, though. Do you really want to get into this in a thread about Heroes getting aborted?

Hmmmm. I must say I expected this thread to get locked a while ago, but I might as well add my two cents. I think its worth mentioning that Zelda herself is reincarnated through the same bloodline, the Royal Family. Considering that all links are either Hylian, Human, some other race strongly connected to Hylians, I don't see why it is so improbable that all Links are reincarnated through the same bloodline.
Because this entire thread is an opportunity to demonize abortion even more. So here's a good question; what if Demise's mother had aborted him?
And yes, abortion probably does exist in Hyrule even if it would never ever be mentioned in the games. But since the goddesses are all-knowing, they would make sure they reincarnate Link as a fetus who isn't going to be aborted, or possibly babies don't get their souls until after they've been born.

Absolutely nothing would have happened if Demise had been aborted, because, as he is a demon from the depths of the underworld, he had no mother. Have you actually played SS?

Yes, I have. And virtually nothing about Demise's backstory is given. Who says that demons can't have relatives? Besides I wasn't being particularly serious when I asked that question.
But fine, if you want a more serious example then what if Ganondorf's mother had aborted him? Or Vaati's mother? Hyrule would have been saved a lot of trouble, that's what.
Um. Idk why I'm posting here, mainly because it hasn't been locked (which is cool, hooray) and because it got me thinking.
This is allllllll well and good, and I read every post. I just feel that... the goddesses are so strong and so good at predicting and choosing that they somehow knew that Link would grow up and prove himself. They knew that him being aborted wouldn't happen. They just did.
Yes, I know, full of logic. Just my silly opinion. If I had to give a back up.. opinion? I would guess the goddesses would just choose another with similar promise, who knows. I definitely don't. As for other's being aborted, that I cannot say. But they weren't and this stuff did happen. So... wewt. I agree with Poe Princess. Hyrule would've been saved a lot of trouble.
