A point on LoZ Ganon's Origin

Today I was sorting through some papers and found a little 25th anniversary ad from my OoT 3D game. It included a page on wii virtual console game. The description for the Legend of Zelda (the game, of series) seemed rather interesting:

"Ganon, the King of Evil, has broken free of the Dark World and has captured Hyrule's beloved princess Zelda™. Help Link collect the captured pieces of the Triforce, rescue the princess, and thwart Ganon's evil plans!"

Now I know this isn't the most canonical source, but it is a Nintendo one. The part about the Dark World seemed unusual, so I thought I'd share it.

I agree with Keith, although I think it's possible that the "Dark World" could be a different place from the Sacred Realm; a sort of "Demon Realm" where his soul resides. HH does say that he was resurrected some time before LoZ, so I suppose that the resurrection could have involved using a sacrifice to summon him back from the Demon Realm.

The word for Dark World in Japanese Zelda games is "Demon King's Realm", which doesn't necessarily mean it's the same one from other games since it's a rather generic word.

In other words: 'Hell'

This kinda makes sense in context, as we're never truly told of his 'father's' origins other than crawling from the depths of the earth with a legion of followers.

Heh... Reminds me of TLotR...

They dug too deep and unleashed a Balrog.

I'm now of the mindset that Ganon is and always was a combo of the being known as Ganondorf (obviously) and some evil, malevolent spirit that controls the dark side of Hyrule. You can play off all the other villians into this thought as well, save for maybe Majora, so the underground dwelling Ganon makes more sense than the idea that some guy with magical abilities went evil and super-moded himself into a giant pig.
